Paper Mario: The Origami King looks like it could be the biggest adventure yet in the long-running RPG series, so how large is the game's file size? According to the current eShop listings in both the US and the UK, the game will require a total of 6.4 GB of space. Although, the Nintendo website rounds this up to 6.5 GB.
That doesn't seem too bad when you start comparing it to the digital file sizes of some other upcoming and recently released games. For example, The Wonderful 101: Remastered will require 7.6 GB, Xenoblade: Chronicles: Definitive Edition is a whopping 13.6GB, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is listed as 6.6GB, and The Outer Worlds takes up 9.8 GB.
The next chapter in the Paper Mario series will arrive on 17th July for $59.99 / £49.99 or your regional equivalent, and you can pre-purchase the game from the Switch eShop right now. If you need an extra incentive to take the digital route, you'll be able to preload the game ahead of launch and play it as soon as it goes live.

Pretty much what expected, considering it´s not a big, open world game. Remember that super mario odyssey´s size was just 5.7 GB...
Super Paper Mario rocks!!
I wonder how much of XC is the music and dialogue? Not saying the other games don't have music but XC is an epic soundtrack.
Will probably pre-order physical on Best Buy as I have $10 credit from ACNH. Waiting to see if PM gets $10 credit as well.
Not a big game like Doom Eternal. But I'm gonna get a physical copy anyway assuming the game has more traditional combat mechanics like TTYD.
I really hope Intelligent Systems takes note from their Fire Emblem series in introducing a diverse cast with quirks which are both funny and stand-out.
Despite minor gripes (mostly with anime) I am still very much enjoying Three Houses and remember the file size for that is a little under double that of this game. Also note that Fire Emblem is pretty much fully voiced and has a cast of like a hundred characters.
One thing I think we can all agree on is that the style and graphics of this game are incredibly charming and intriguing. It's very nice to look at. I really hope that means they can put the same effort in the story. Again, Three Houses is a testament at how well this developer can craft a world and convoluted story engaging the player. Paper Mario being primarily for kids shouldn't be an excuse for a shallow experience.
Unrelated but I keep getting these bloody adverts about buying Nook Miles tickets, Bells and items on this site. Feels decidedly trashy, especially for NLife.
@nessisonett Nintendo Life uses Google ads, so it's based of stuff you search.
That's not much. Still, if you're a big digital gamer, your Switch will be loaded. I always prefer physical, except if the price of digital is a better deal for me.
@the_beaver Plus for the quality of the visuals, something tells me the kind of textures used by the game are lighter than we think.... ontop of being much more polygons-count friendly than a lot of other more realistic styles.

I'm cautious. I was hoping this entry would go harder on the RPG elements from the first two games, but I'm remaining tentative here.
@mesome713 They at least have some modicum of control over the ads given that there’s so many Pure Xbox ads. They’re always gaming related and sometimes there’s those full length ads which have got to be paid for so I don’t believe it has much to do with my search history considering I use Duck Duck Go and a combination of privacy settings to ensure that Google have as little of my data as possible.
Ill probabaly just grab the physical copy. Seems like 1 ill pop in my switch for a good month and not take it out.
I am unsure, I get most RPGs in physical format, but this is pretty small, I’ll probably download it. I regret not downloading Luigi’s Mansion some, even if I saved $10 getting physical.
I just hope battles are relevant this time.
@JR150 That says nothing. According to that, Sticker Star is also RPG.
13.6GB is hardly whopping for a game like Xenoblade. If Nintendo bothers to include lossless audio in their games (and they rarely do, if ever), that alone would occupy a few gigs. One of my criticisms of how Nintendo handles Switch games is that they often downgrade assets not because the console is incapable, but to save on storage costs. Smash Ultimate sounded extremely flat due to them having compressed around 30 hours of audio to about 1.5GB when lossless quality would have required a 32GB cartridge. Likewise, lossless audio for a game like Xenoblade would require about 5GB alone (unless they use a more storage-efficient format that can still pull off lossless audio, but this would take a toll on battery life due to such data needing to be decoded before being stored in RAM).
@nessisonett I also use DuckDuckGo but I have never seen any of the ads you're talking about. I do see a variety of other ads, some of which can be tied towards things I've seen or looked at. I don't think Google ads are purely driven by what you've searched, but by what cookies certain websites are placing on your computer. As so many websites are powered by Google or Amazon servers, I think they place cookies when you visit the websites and then other websites check those cookies as well, and they start creating a web of connection between all sorts of websites, and then the ad service basically references those things to target ads. That's my understanding of how it works anyway.
@RodSD64
Terribly underrated game. Some great ideas for a platformer/RPG.
I'm a little late to the party but awesome news! I've played every paper mario except Paper jam on 3DS and Thousand year door is my favorite! Speaking of paper jam has anyone here played it? I just never got around to playing it but i may correct that soon.
@the_beaver I'm lucky I have 32 GB
Small file size as expected. I'll be picking up the physical version on day 1.
Physical copy for me 99% of the time with Nintendo games
@Varkster
I just started playing Three Houses for the second time (doing Edelgard's route now, first one was Claude's) and it is incredible how quickly I've grown fond of Black Eagles students! The characters are well-written indeed.
I sincerely wish for Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and Super Mario RPG HD to grace my Switch...
@Lugazz I think it's most impressive when you can make a cast of characters where, despite having played one house and obviously having to at some point oppose the other students in political disagreement, you can still bond with a new house as a player.
It's really impressive that out of the main three houses there is no concrete villain and each character is unique and appealing in different ways. With a cast so large I would say that is near impossible to pull off.
I'm not expecting them to work the same magic on Paper Mario, but I'm at least expecting the same quality of writing.
@Varkster
Exactly! I couldn't care less about the other students when doing Golden Deer, expect Petra of course. Now I am "damn right Caspar ma boi!", "you better not mess with my girl Bernadetta!" hahahahaha
Well there are some I simply can't appreciate such as Hubert and Cyril because it bothers me a lot this "I'll do everything for this person" in the way they do. Catherine is like that as well, but the way she does it is not as irritating, to me at least lol
Day zero for me!
Getting paper Mario and Xenoblade definitive with game vouchers. Good thing I have a 512gb card in my switch
Why would the biggest Paper Mario game weight only 6.4GB? I don't remember how much Color Splash weighted but everything I saw in the trailer was bigger than anything Color Splash had (except the unpainted Ocean and big hole). Not to mention the first three Paper Mario games had so much content apart from the main story (side-quests, Pit of 100 Trials, bestiaries...) Maybe the Papery art style weghts much less, or those guys are great masters of optimization and compression.
By the way, it's funny a Wii Remaster weights only a little less than Zelda: Breath of the Wild
@nessisonett I haven't seen anything like that and only ads I see are non-intrusive and not "in your face."
Preordered it this morning
@DockEllisD ok I'd like to know what preview you watched???I didnt see anything in that nature
@DockEllisD
Agreed. Hope they move on from stickers and cards, but not enough to keep from purchasing (physically).
Sigh Ah, to have regular (traditionally villainous) partners and soft RPG mechanics once again...
