We've heard previously how the Xbox Adaptive Controller is compatible with the Nintendo Switch, and it seems players far and wide have been making good use of this nifty tool ever since.
Yesterday, Pure Xbox shared a story about a disabled gamer – by the name of EyeGazeGirl on Twitter – who has been using this particular controller to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Switch, courtesy of the UK charity Special Effect.
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer acknowledged how "inspiring" it was, and within the original tweet it's explained how Becky can move the joystick with her chin and the switches with her head and hand. The official Xbox account even chimed in and said it was happy to help out.
Microsoft originally launched this controller in 2018 – with its primary goal being to meet the needs of gamers with limited mobility. It achieves this by being a "unified hub" for devices and making gaming, in general, more accessible.
You can learn more about Special Effect over on its official website, and view its streams on Twitch.

No gamer left behind!
This is awesome! Great tool that makes gaming more accessible.
That's a pretty impressive setup, forgot that this controller exists but it's a nifty tool
-I wish her all the best with the tarantulas, I can't even catch them (consistently) with a pro controller...
Say what you want about Microsoft but things like this have had a great effect.
Just goes to show you that even if you have a favorite company, all console manufacturers offer a lot to gaming as a whole.
The story is so moving. When I remember the concept that games are meant to be fun for everyone, I'm reminded immediately of Satoru Iwata. A trully inspiring and beautiful message.
so freaking awesome.
happy gaming
MS Adaptive controller is a thing that didn't need to be made businesswise. It isn't a thing that you should have built and used R&D for considering the niche market.
It's just something that MS decided to do, because they saw the need for some. It's one of the best corporate things ever.
Nintendo take down imminent lol.
@Timppis Agree. I really don't understand why people hate Microsoft, they provide alot of excellent services and products.
Brilliant controller making games accessible to all. I have never understood the hate for MS at all. A good company who like to try and innovate. Sometimes they get it wrong but so do Sony and Nintendo. Bravo Microsoft.
I remember when Sony had the one handed controller. Was a godsend hen I broke my hand. Controllers like this are amazing
@graysoncharles
Crying on the inside no doubt.
@jarvismp
Well, you know , fanboys and fanboyism.
When does that ever make sense ?
"What I like is double plus good anything else I oppose is double plus ungood.
Especially if it competes with what I like"
True humanity. 💛
This is a wholesome article, why are people trying to pick fights?
Makes me tear up, I'm glad that girl is able to enjoy gaming
Microsoft deserves more credit for this.
@graysoncharles To be fair, you can't hate on Microsoft for this, even if it is the ONE good thing this generation out of their many, many follies. Everyone gets one right? The better question is, how are you so jaded to think someone who dislikes Xbox (and rightfully so with how much they've lied to their fans, abused the industry, and repeatedly peddle anti-consumer services and practices) would dislike something that brings this wonderful hobby to more people? A blind fanboy is a blind fanboy, but a gamer is intelligent enough to see both the good and the bad, with Microsoft having a lot of bad and very little good.
@GoblinKing86 I don't know what the point of this "(and rightfully so with how much they've lied to their fans, abused the industry, and repeatedly peddle anti-consumer services and practices)" was in your statement.
Plus I don't think I agree with these allegations. When did they lie? About what? They told me they were the most powerful console. I think that's accurate. What anti-consumer services did they offer and practice? Is gamepass anti-consumer? (if gamepass is anti consumer what are your thoughts on NSO) Is a series x that is fully backward compatible anti consumer? (What are your thoughts on your Wii u purchases not being playable on your switch and instead being sold the same product twice under the disguise of "deluxe" games.
If you're going to compliment someone or something then compliment it but don't put in these subtle jabs and pretend you're not part of the anti xbox problem on here.
Keep the console war bs out of this thread, Jesus.
@sixrings Yeah well said, I get tired of these Xbox haters who continue on about some vendetta they have against the consoles and the company, more often than not it's from the same kind of people who are always trying to put their favorite console of choice on a pedestal. As far as I am aware this sort of thing with the adaptive controller makes them great for consumers. I mean who else is offering something like this? Who else bothered thinking about these people with special needs and actually spent the money developing a controller for them?
@UltraVideoGamer "I don't feel like Xbox has really added anything constructive to the videogames industry"
This is simply a beautiful thing, and a testament to how each of the companies has brought, and can continue to bring something useful or nice to the gaming community.
@yuwarite I was just about to make a sneaky comment, referring to that very user, stating "and then some people say that Microsoft or Xbox has added nothing constructive to gaming", when I saw you already beat me to it.
If I could have given you 10 likes instead of just one, I would have done so.
@sixrings You forgot about Sony, who are the absolute king of anti-consumer friendly practices...
(just in case: I'm only ever so slightly serious. Just thought I had a little fun with the simpletons who thought it was a good idea to bring the console wars into this thread)
@ThanosReXXX hey man I was just saying compliment or don't. But don't try to be slick with backhanded compliments.
@sixrings What the.... ? It seems you completely misinterpreted my comment. It was just meant as a bit of fun poking at the haters, not at you or your comment.
Not everything needs to be a fight. Accessability is a beautiful thing.
Writer, please look up the phrase 'inspiration porn' (entirely SW).
All the Microsoft haters can STFU. This is pure goodness.
@WickedWizard sounds like someone got off the wrong side of the bed. It's the xbox and fiscal they caused so don't forget whom is to blame as well. xbox does deserve some of the hate for a reason. Red Circle of death they denied.
Does anyone know where I can get one of these controllers? And how much they are?
My Brother-in-Law has cerebral palsy and loves his switch but has to either struggle with the tiny buttons or watch someone else play for him. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't get him down, but if this could make his experience better it would be awesome.
Also if anyone has any info on how to connect it up or experience with it, I would really appreciate the insight.
@JoeM103 You can get it direct from the Microsoft or Xbox store for $99. https://www.xbox.com/en-US/accessories/controllers/xbox-adaptive-controller
@SwitchForce xbox swaped out four of my 360s no problems asked. Nintendo needed a class action lawsuit to get them to admit joy con drift and give free repairs. I have four switches and I've given up on using joycons because they seem to always drift. I'm not suggesting that Nintendo are evil but neither is Microsoft. This is a business and sometimes companies make good decisions and other times not so much. Nintendo isn't immune to bad decision making.
