After a somewhat lackluster month, May is shaping up to be quite the exciting month for Switch releases. There's quite a healthy dose of indie and third-party offerings that should keep Switch owners busy for a real chunk of time and we're even being treated to the definitive edition of a fan favorite RPG.
Our collective wish of wanting everything on Switch is quickly coming true, and honestly, we've got no complaints! The idea of taking games like Bioshock and Borderlands on the go is a dream come true, and if it turns out this all is just a dream can you just let us keep snoozing a little longer?

I want to get BioShock but apparently it won't have all the games in the cartridge, ugh.
Now this is more like it. I'm getting SuperMash, Wonderful 101, Xenoblade and probably XCOM 2.
XC, Bioshock Collection, and Ninjala
Wonderful 101 (getting it on ps4 though) is the only one on that list I'll be getting.
way too hyped for XC. I'll also be picking up Lonely Mountain, and maybe Bioshock - if it has (good!) gyro aim support.
Pikmin 4 for me.
I am buying all of the Bioshock games since it is 1 series I haven’t played yet. Will get borderlands 2 since I hear it’s the best and I already played the 1st. XCOM isn’t really my thing so that will be a pass. Minecraft dungeons will be my only other purchase. Waiting for burnout and I already have Xenoblade for my 3ds and had it on Wii back when. Still, this next 2 months will be expensive. I have yet to get animal crossing since I will need 3 copies for the house to keep the fighting between us down.
A very decent month, especially impressive in current circumstances.
I’d be just as happy to put Xenoblade 19 times!
I still busy with hunting for old games i haven't get yet (NDS, 3DS, PSP)
Shantae and the Seven Sirens supposedly releases on May 28th, that and The Wonderful 101 (PS4) are the ones I'll buy.
Depending on performance and image quality, I might be interested in XCOM 2. Also curious to see how Xenoblade shakes out. I'm just not sure whether this Definitive Edition will really adress the gripes I had with the game 10 years ago. If it doesn't, then I'm happy to stick with something else. Also, I really liked the original design of the chracters a tad better, it did not lean that heavily into the anime aesthetic, although the ingame difference is probably negligible. Plus the original was just too much on the easy side, but maybe there'll be a fix for that as well - dunno. I'm interested but not sold yet.
Only XC DE for me
@beazlen1 nah Metroid Prime Trilogy
i'd vote for xenoblade 20 times
From May 19th on is absolutely insane! Best month of the year so far.
May is definitely going to be a great month for many Switch gamers. I should be receiving The Wonderful 101: Remastered earlier in the month (backed the physical Kickstarter tier) and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition hopefully on launch day. I'm gonna be pretty busy!
Edit: I'd also like to pick up BioShock Collection, but that will have to wait for a later date.
As a physical collector, I'm looking at The Wonderful 101, Xenoblade Chronicles DE, Dungeon of the Endless, and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath.
Xenoblade for me, probably buying XCOM2 digitally and still waiting to see if Hatsune Miku will get a delayed physical release.
I'm interested in Bioshock and Wonderful 101, but neither one is a gotta-have-it.
F-Zero X HD for me
Not one game that I have interest in this time
so many great games... definitely ill pick XC! the three 2K games im interested, even if I already played bio 1 and 2 I want them again.. I played just a little bug of borderlands 1.. and never played Xcom..
minecraft dungeons, really looking forward...
Definitely going to check out Bioshock 2
2k games are not question if to buy, but when to.
May the Ports be with you. Always.
There are some really good ports in there, newer ones, older ones, but ports just the same. And Minecraft Dungeons.
It does make me worry what June and July will look like. Right now in my head I'm drawing blanks for June and July. #PandemicSummer
Minecrat Dungeons and Xenoblade for me. Nothing else too interesting.
I’m working through my wii backlog. No new games for me for a while.....
"If you could only play three new release from this month, which would you choose?"
A cruel question after listing such a lineup, but I know the answer anyway. XCDE, Bioshock, Borderlands. Told you the 29th became one heck of a release date.
I'm really feeling this month
I've already got TW101R pre-ordered, physical copy of course so I get the Kickstarter cover art and whatever else it comes with, but will buy the digital version the day it launches so I never have to open the case. That'll count for 2, Xenoblade will be my 3rd for the month. Otherwise there's nothing else for me there.
Will be going back to the month of April to get Sor 4! X x x x x x not long now x x.
Xenoblade
Then Xenoblade
And probably Xenoblade!
My boi Shulk im keen!
Ion Fury? Says it's up for release on 29th May. Been on my radar for a while now so hoping for a strong port.
@RazumikhinPG They literally don't make a cartridge big enough to fit all 3 games on cart, so I can confirm that is the case.
Already pre-ordered XCDE. Super Mash looks brilliant! Jet Lancer looks quite clean, and Project Diva maybe. Woulda been up for some 2K action but man, those downloads.
I will definitely be getting Xenoblade. I might get Bioshock, Borderlands and maybe the Wonderful 101 depending on how they’re received/reviewed.
Is Star Wars episode 1 racer still due for release on 12th?
I've finished 22 out of 37 games on my Switch (though there are a few games like ARMS and Smash Brothers where it's hard to decide what "finished" means), and 16 of those games are 100% complete. Once I get Xenoblade, I'll probably never play anything else for a year or so, so the challenge is to see how many of those remaining 15 games I can finish in a month. Also, one of those games that I haven't even played a single time is Breath of the Wild. I can totally finish that game 100% in a day or two, right??? Taking all bets!
Ion Fury and Star Wars Episode I Racer are also coming in May.
Xenoblade for me but the mountain biking game looks kind of interesting.
Will look at reviews for Minecraft dungeons as it has a lovely Gauntlet vibe. Not too interested in the rest except perhaps Xcom. Never finished W101, it's just sat on my Wii U unloved. Doubt I will pay a 4th time for Xenoblade even though it was/is a fantastic game, maybe In a sale three years down the line.
@link3710 wish they would make a cartridge for 1&2 and then Infinite separate.
Super Mega Baseball 3 comes out on May 13th.
That and xcom2 for me.
The most important May game for me is Shantae.
I might check out Xenoblade and SuperMash later.
I had Wonderful 101 on Wii U but never finished it. I'd like to get it on Switch though. I'm also really excited for Xenoblade. One of my favorite RPGs ever...I'm kind of interested in Borderlands and Bioshock as well. May is looking pretty good (for ports/remakes at least).
The fact that Switch games require a download.... why is this still such a big deal? I just booted up my PS4 the other day because I finally wanted to open and play God of War. It required something like a 45GB download. This is common for all Xbox and PS games.... why is it okay for those systems but not Switch? Legitimate question. I don't mean to be an a** but im legitimately curious why it's such a big deal for Switch games?
More Concerned with the Physical release as those can be used whenever wherever on different Switches and not Locked down to one NIN account/Switch to play it. It's 2020 how do they not make it Physical or join another publisher to make it Physical. Those will sell regardless and they don't have to make that much inventory to do that. Make Physical PreOrder limits and they will reap the benefits of it.
Don't sleep on Lonely Mountains: Downhill, guys!
@SwitchForce oh i see ... with the physical switch cartridge, though, couldnt u still sell the cartridge and the new owner can also download the necessary data? The original owner wont be able to play it anymore, though, because they sold the cartridge. Wouldnt that be the same as selling a fully physical copy anyway?
Wow...some big ones coming up. None for me though. After Trials of Mana last week, that's it for me for the year with what Nintendo has announced so far.
Just xenoblade for me.
@RazumikhinPG I mean I get why they had to make it download only and not on the cart for some of them. The Bioshock games are rather large on their own (the remasters), but after Witcher 3 you have to ask if they couldn't do it (get all three on one cart). I say they're worth the purchase especially Bioshock 1 which is a straight-up classic in the vein of Systemshock.
Well I pre-ordered both Xenoblade chronicles and the Borderlands collection. So those two for sure. I would like to get Bioshock collection as well as like Borderlands I have never played those games.
xenoblade, borderlands and Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix
@RazumikhinPG some of these devs are quite lazy in not fitting all games on a cartridge like capcom and few others have pulled.
@Incarna if I may give you some advice; pick up Borderlands 2. It’s by far the best of the series.
I’m picking up Borderlands, Bioshock and XCOM. Already own these games on pc, but I’m having a hard time finishing my pc games. On Switch I finish them much easier. Not sure why that is.
@Incarna I spent way to much time on the slotmachines. That was some addicting stuff. I agree with the dlc. Loved the zombie island of doctor Ned.
I'm currently only interested in two of these titles.
Lonely Mountains: Downhill
Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition
No mention of Void Bastards!?
@NintenDan_ I’ve just created account to point this out since thats the title im looking forward to
@JuanChorizo your dedication to the cause is appreciated!
Super mash and jet lancer for me.
@MaxlRoseGNR brilliant! It’s about time they remastered F-Zero X. I’ll bring Pikmin4, StarFox Racing and the beers round. @datamonkey can bring Prime Trilogy HD. What a night!
Xenoblade for me.
I may also pick up XCOM 2, though I also want Borderlands and BioShock too
it would be rather nice if Nintendo communicated their future plans to use.
What is in June? Just Trails of Cold Steel 3, as far as I'm aware.
What's in July? August? The rest of 2020?? Nothing 1st party after Xenoblade, apparently.
I do want some undated stuff though. like:
Lego Star Wars
Persona 5 Phantom Strikers
Digimon Survive
Wonderful 101 and Xenoblade Chronicles for me. I had W101 on my Wii U and loved it. But got stuck on a flying boss fight and never continued. So looking forward to getting stuck in.
Ive never played Xenoblade Chronicles so im really excited to have my 1st experience of it be in this remastered HD format. Great month to be a Switch owner
Next month looks crazy. Xenoblade, W101, and maybe XCOM, but I haven’t decided yet. Then June, The Last of Us 2 comes out (so long as it isn’t delayed again). Great times for gaming.
@beazlen1 hah I’m in! I’ll bring the pizza!
1 exciting game, a couple of maybes, a lot of no's and some old releases...coming out in may
Can’t wait for Xenoblade!
3? Bioshock Collection, Minecraft Dungeons, and Wonderful 101 for me.
@Mando44646 its called ANOTHER DIRECT they said stay tuned in june
bioshock collection hype!!
@NintendoPok another Direct? The first Direct of the year revealed no new 1st party games in 2020 and only dated Xenoblade. They have larger issues going on
@NintendoPok
Wow, someone put on their cranky pants today.
SHANTAE AND THE SEVEN SIRENS. Why do sites and YouTube channels keep forgetting this game in the May lists? I know... it's a crowded release schedule consisting of Bioshock collection, Borderlands collection, and Xenoblade Definitive Edition, but I'm really surprised NintendoLife missed it. As people mentioned before Shantae is on the 28th.
Shantae game releases keep getting overshadowed for some reason, it's like a Red Sox curse or something.
Well after Shantae of course I'm going to play Xenoblade. Let's see if I can make it further past the big sword bridge this time, that's a giant game. Being shin-deep in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Streets of Rage 4 coming out on April 30th, SNK Gals Fighters (NeoGeoPocketColor) also coming out on the 30th, Shantae, and Xenoblade I don't know when I'm going to play Wonderful 101. Man, it is a crowded release schedule.
Xcom 2, SuperMash and Xenoblade
I think this article should have been named 5 Exciting New Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In May
Im in no rush to buy any of next months games. On the fence with W101 as i remember it being a pain in the neck (as a left hander) so will wait for a review to drop. XC i will nab but that will be in may. Ive got plenty to be playing on the switch, PS4, WiiU and snes mini so im all good.
May is looking good. Hopefully, this will be a great lead in to a Nintendo Direct in June.
A very good and very interesting month there.
Miku, Super Mash, and then probably Xenoblade and Wonderful 101
Probably nothing for me. I love the world of Xenoblade but I could just never get into the slow-pacing or the combat. Maybe I’ll give it another go over time but I don’t plan on picking it up anytime soon.
I already own all the Bioshock games and Borderlands 2 on PC. I want to try XCOM eventually but I’m in no rush with my backlog and will probably just get it for PC.
All that leaves is Hatsune Miku Mega Mix. I never actually owned any of those games but I remember really like the demos for those games on 3DS and VITA. Perhaps now is the time to finally give one of the full games a go.
So yeah, nothing I plan to get but Hatsune Miku is a maybe.
I forgot about The Wonderful 101 coming out next month. Supported the Kickstarter so just waiting for my copy to arrive. Other than that, the only thing here that really caught my eye was Xenoblade, and I’ve already got that pre-ordered and paid for, as well. The release schedule seems to be a little bit slow for the near future, but my wallet and backlog are enjoying the hiatus.
Me: spends hundreds of dollars on games in April
Nintendo Life: April was a somewhat lackluster month.
Me: contemplates my life
The greatest video game of all time in HD. I don’t think I can stand to wait another month.
Definitely playing through the Bioshock trilogy again. Supermash looks rad, too. Depends on the funds.
@MoonKnight7 wow its an opinion
@NintendoPok
“Who cares”
Great month: Xenoblade, TW101, Bioshock, Xcom and Borderlands for me.
@TrevorMcD If I'm not mistaken I believe WayForward came out last month giving the May release date. It's strange that it's not even listed in the eShop which could be why NintendoLife and others forget it.. I'm expecting a $20 or $30 price but we'll see. For me this is the game I'm looking forward to most this month. It would be nice if a physical release was happening, which it sounds like Limited Run will handle, but based on the last Kickstarted game they may release additional DLC so another ultimate or premium version may also release at some point.
As far as other games I've preordered the Xenoblade Chronicles Defenitive Edition Limited Edition game as well as possibly Minecraft Dungeons, if that one isn't delayed on Switch for $20. Will play Ninjala and may grab the Bioshock Collection.
