There are only a few more weeks until the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Switch now. To tide you over until then, our lovely senior video producer Alex Olney has taken time to answer 21 of your questions, now that he has gone hands-on with it.
Unfortunately, he's still under embargo, so he can't answer every question just yet. The messages he has responded to were sent to him over on YouTube. Ever wondered if the grass gets trampled? What about the flowers? Are paintings and sculptures in the museum? You'll just have to view the video above to find out:
And if you'd like a much more thorough rundown of what you can expect from the latest entry in the Animal Crossing series, be sure to read Alex's full impressions, where he talks about terraforming and a bunch of other interesting things within the new game. What age range it animal crossing really aimed at and is the cute element designed for those humans who 'do' cute? 🐹
It's not really designed for the adult male who plays Sniper elite or Mario games surly? Reviewers of course would be exempted, as they have a job to do.😀
I reluctantly played Fire Emblem 3 Houses after buying it and finding elements of AC had found their way into what would have been one of my favourite game franchises. But never agai.😮
@zool i play all games minus sports games.
Im looking forward to ac just as much as doom eternal.
@zool
I am 35 years old man and have played Animal Crossing New Leaf 3DS since 22 December 2013 and have accumulated more than 1560 hours gameplay.
@zool @Anti-Matter I am also a 35 year old man and have played AC since it released on GameCube all those years back.
Today I primarily play Rocket League on PC. But I'd buy a switch solely for AC if I didn't already have one. But of course I enjoyed Zelda and other games as well
@Anti-Matter as long as you enjoy it that's what counts. My post is slightly 'tongue-in-cheek' because the AC game style is now in Fire Emblem.
i did get a free download copy of the 3ds Animal Crossing game, for reasons I have forgotten, Nintendo offered some gamers a free game from a choice of six and I downloaded AC because I had played the other five.
I did build a small house, collect some money and other stuff, but after some hours of play I found it monotonous 😁
My two daughters did visit and took what they could and looked after it for a while but I guess it's all over grown by now.
I've never played an animal crossing game. Any suggestions on which should be my first?
@Zeldafan79 Any of them can be your first. Might as well start with the newest one, which looks like it'll be the most polished entry in the series.
If you don't have a Switch, then New Leaf on 3DS is also an excellent option. It was also my first AC game.
@Zeldafan79 Whichver one is the latest. No, really. There's no plot or story or continuity to worry about. It's a single sandbox premise that just gets iterated over and refined with each new installment. And they are games designed to never be "finished", so just go with the contemporary release.
@zool Ah yes, Mario games; only for the most adult and male of gamers... And for the life of me, I can't think of how Animal Crossing would have infiltrated Three Houses and "ruined" it...
I think you're going to be alone in this particular crusade.
@T7Hokage017 I'd say just play the new one. It'll be the most polished entry in the series, and everyone else will be playing as well, so you'll have an easier time finding people to play online with (although, if you want to play it solely in single-player, that's fine, too)
Can't wait to give it a run to play it.
@DawgP see post #5. ...and you have replaced the word style with infiltrated. I guess that was for effect. 😀
the QR code scanner is part of the Nintendo Switch Online app so of course it will require Nintendo Switch Online membership
auto save won't work online I assume but wonder when the host chooses to save would it just save quietly in the background for all players instead of going to a black screen with loading icon
@zool Oh, I was definitely paraphrasing and going off memory of how it came across to me. The device being used to reply didn't have the real estate to see your comment while typing my own. >.<;
And after looking at #5, I still don't know what Animal Crossing stuff was worked into Three Houses.
And ease don't take me the wrong way! If you're not into Animal Crossing, you're not into it. That's totally fine. I just don't think you're gonna get too much support to rally behind you round here as I think there are many an adult males who are into it, myself included. The only reason I stepped away from the series is because I joined the working world and no longer could interact with a "real world time" game that operated in business hours and such.
Hello lovely people😉...
Haven't played animal crossing before.
And I don't know if the game is for me or not.
Coming from someone who don't really like the SIMS.
So will you recommend this game to this target person asking the question?
@Rpg-lover
I wouldn't really compare Animal Crossing to The Sims. I'd say AC has more in common with games like Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon.
Sims doesn't really have any real dialogue, while AC has an emphasis on dialogue. The characters are well written. Sure it's wholesome and family safe, but each character is quirky and unique and they are easy to like. And there's a lot of them! In AC, you do pretty repetitive, mundane work such as shake trees for fruit, catch bugs and fish, and dig for fossils. The work isn't very compelling, but it's satisfying to do. You use your money to customize your character and upgrade and furnish your house. You do everything at your own pace. AC never requires you to do anything, and anything that you do is by your own volition. It's a great game to play when you want to relax, and might not interest players who need action or an end goal.
@Boo-Thang ohh, now i get it.
Basically, an endless runner game.
Whereby the ultimate goal is to keep getting better & better(craft & others) without endings (games like Minecraft & stardew valley as you said) so you're being task to build, infact in general crafting of items. And some little quest thrown in here & there. Thanks for the informations i appreciate. Will have to gauge my taste to see if i can have an appetite for this game when it drops eventually. Pretty much on the fence as it stands.
I’m concerned about that addict cough alex has...
