UK chart data is now in for the week ending 14th March, revealing that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has had a pretty stellar week in the region.
The game saw a 108% boost in sales week-on-week as more Switch stock arrived at retail, seeing it soar up the charts into second place. The only game to sell better this week was Nioh 2, a brand new release for PS4.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX slipped down to third place after debuting in first last week. It saw a 53% drop in sales week-on-week, but managed to remain ahead of the latest Call of Duty and FIFA titles.

woo forgot about Nioh 2! Welp time to dust off the Ps4 until animal crossing destroys my life.
On topic: Guess mario kart is good for folks stuck at home.
Mario kart 8 Deluxe could end up selling 30 million units by the time the switch lifespan is over
Can't recommend Mario Kart 8 Deluxe enough it's a great racer. Only racing game on Switch that I like better is the free 2 play Asphalt 9.
still wonder why they wont release any dlcs for mk8dx, they would sell like crazy
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is definitely a great game. It's one of the few Switch games I've played consistently since it came out.
@RPGamer Nice pun
Luigis Mansion 3 STILL in the UK ton 10 charts How?
@mariomaster96
I'm hoping they saving it for MK9
As much as I love Mario Kart 8 Deluxe I'm ready for an all new game (I had the original on Wii U)
Was playing MK8 myself this weekend, been playing a LOT of DOOM 3 recently and fancied a wee change lol. When MK8 is consistently high, you know Switch hardware sales are high too.
@Marios-love-child Yeah i also had it on the wii u and i also hope for mk9 (or nintendo kart) but since this game still sales like crazy i can't imagine that nintendo would release a new one
@mariomaster96
We need people to stop buying MK8 😂
MK8D speeds into second, eh?
Nioh 2 all the way. Great game so far.
Glad to see Division 2 up there... tons of people playing it online on Sunday!
LM3 hanging in there. Nice! 😎
Nintendo switch consoles (not the lite editions) are completly sold out in the netherlands in 1 day!!!, because of the corona virus.
People staying at home with their kids, because schools are closed for 3 weeks.
Bizar.
Nioh 2 topped the UK charts with ~6,000 retail copies sold - 63% less than Nioh 1 at launch.
Biggest UK Switch retail launches:
> Pokemon Sword/Shield: ~195,000
> Super Smash Bros Ultimate: ~130,000
> Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee: ~120,000
> Super Mario Odyssey: ~85,000
> Zelda Breath of the Wild: ~60,000
> Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: ~60,000
> Luigi's Mansion 3: ~45,000
Animal Crossing New Horizons should sell 50,000-60,000 retail copies. It could do more, but Covid-19 will push a lot of people toward buying the game digitally.
Mario Kart 8 is greatest racer ever made, so happy for racing fans to experience greatness. Sad to hear Nioh do so bad. Sounds like a good game, should have come to Switch.
With the way that this game keeps selling incredibly well, you would think that they’d sell another meaty expansion pass like they did on the Wii U version, or, at least some DLC every few months, or so.
Why not bring most, or at least some of the content from Mario Kart Tour over? Alternate costumes, alternate colors, reverse courses, trick courses, remix courses, alternate background settings (ala Sonic Mania’s Encore Mode), etc.
I mean, something, anything. Playing the same content in Mario Kart 8 in 2020, feels beyond stale now, especially if you’ve been playing it since 2014. Please add more content to freshen things up.
Complaining about the lack of Mario Kart 8 DX DLC has become tradition on this site lol. It should have been very obvious 12-18 months ago that the game isn't going to get any content expansions.
Mario Kart 9 is most certainly in development instead, and probably has been for quite some time.
@westman98 Believe me, I’d rather have a brand new game over DLC for 8 Deluxe, but they’re showing no signs of a new game being in development.
Couple that with fact that this game refuses to stop selling (and incredibly well, might I add), that they may as well release more DLC for this, for the foreseeable future.
I’ve kinda given up hope at this point for a brand new game, and it’s extremely disappointing... 🙁
@90sRetroGaming
Nintendo is a business and Mario Kart 9 will print money.
It will probably be a Switch 2 game, so we'll be waiting for quite some time.
It's all those families stuck in quarantine, wanting to play Mario Kart together.
The sad moment in which UK starts having better tastes than Italy. You wouldn't believe the Italy charts, Nintendo games never stay long on the top 10 while crappy ones like FIFA always stay for months. Italy has become the new UK in terms of Video Game tastes and as an Italian myself this discourages me a lot.
I wonder if Mario Day discounts helped with MK8 numbers? But that would only be retailer discounts, since I don’t think it was discounted on the eShop.
I'm starting to think the average consumer in the UK thinks there are only like 25 different video games... total, across all platforms.
MK9 on perpetual delay while MK8D keeps selling! I don't blame Nintendo either. They'll save MK9 to boost Switch sales if they begin to sag. Curiously, MK7 on 3DS still sells at original RRP.
I LOVE MK8D and I still play regularly, but I'd love new content, either via DLC or MK9.
I don't like the mobile game and I'm not really feeling the arcade version of Mario Kart tbh. I usually play Cruisin Blast instead. (please please please port to Switch or release previous Cruisin titles, or both. PLEASE!)
@Lony85 Why? Is there anything to unlock or a story mode in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?
@Investor9872 Not really no, but it's one of those games (like Smash Bros.), that I can pop in and have a quick play, if I only have fifteen - twenty minutes to spare. It also gets a lot of play time, if my nephew comes to visit over the weekend, as it's one of his go to favorites.
@AmplifyMJ
I was playing it on the plane the other day. Turns out it’s not a good combination 😱
