One of the biggest announcements this week was when PlatinumGames lifted the lid on its brand new game 'Project G.G.', a title which will be directed Hideki Kamiya and is said to be "the powerful climax" in his superhero trilogy (already comprised of Viewtiful Joe and The Wonderful 101).
Earlier on in the week, the PlatinumGames' executive director Atsushi Inaba said the Japanese developer wanted to launch this new title on 'all available platforms at this time' but now in an interview with IGN Japan, he's provided a more concrete confirmation that this new self-published project is indeed targeting a Switch release:
Basically we’d like to hit PS4, Xbox One, Switch and Steam, and then of course PS5 and Series X are coming soon. We don’t know exactly when this will come out, but we’d like to release it on whatever are the main platforms at that time
As mentioned, it depends on when the game is released. While there's no exact date just yet, there is a more general release window:
Put it this way, we’re not looking at something as long as three years. Nor will it be as soon as half a year or a year. But as our first self-owned and self-published game, we want to deliver it as soon as we can.
Adding to this, the director Hideki Kamiya says he has no desire to release games quickly and would rather launch them in a "good" state. Does this new Platinum project interest you? Leave a comment below.

It's Platinum so I'm already interested in buying it.
Made by platinum so for me a Day one buy.
I'm interested because of Hideki Kamiya (a person), not because of Platinum Games (a company). It's the people behind the games that make them good!
Given that VJ and W101 were both all released on Nintendo systems I would hope Switch is guaranteed at this point. Playstation obviously makes sense given the history with Viewtiful Joe and now with Wonderful 101 on its way as well. I'm not sure how well the game would do on XBox though.
@Rohanrocks88 I would think that's going to remain quite unlikely as it would need Capcom to be on board.
I will be keeping an eye on this project, sounds interesting.
That gives me some ultraman vibes!
Can someone please explain the headline to me? The headline plus the subtitle reads to me, that the switch release is dependent on the release date and that there is a chance it might not happen. The text in the article does not state this at all!
@CowCatcher That's nit what it says in thr article. Its says "main consoles" and as long as Nintendo only has the switch, it's a main console. I wonder how so many people can read between the line and take their interpretation as granted. For me, this sentence goes in the direction of PS5 and Xbox.
Made by Platinum, so chances are I won't be hugely interested.
@mazzel I think it's a case of Nintendo's future is less clear meanwhile Sony and Microsoft's future is obviously PS5 and Series X respectively. When the game comes you could have stuff like this on the Nintendo front:
1. Switch revision like something that's comparable to the jump from 3DS to New 3DS.
2. Switch gets a successor ("Switch 2" or maybe something completely different from Switch)
3. The current Switch is still the most powerful Switch
4. PS5 and Series X reduce Switch's popularity enough that it's not worth developing for
Different outcomes for Nintendo's hardware will affect whether Switch gets the game. I think only point 1 will happen by the time the game comes out.
No chance on the PS5 and XSX reducing the Switch's popularity to nothing. The Switch will survive the next-gen launch, and even thrive on just on the release of first-party games from Nintendo alone!
@mazzel Well let's say that by the time the game actually launches in three years, Nintendo's turned around and released the Switch 2 and Switch software sales were dead. Platinum would target that instead. That's all the interview meant.
This is going to be one of those games that we keep asking to see more of and won't for like 5 years. They'll promise a Switch version, but by then a Switch successor would have launched so they'll go dark on that, and release it for the new system instead.
@Investor9872 - Also gotta consider how much is costs to develop for the new systems, and how many are going to be sold enough to make a profit on it.
It'll be port city for the first year. And then the studios will consolidate (again) and release fewer games a year (again) and sell us only established franchises guaranteed to sell every year (again and again).
That pattern has been a drop every threshold of new console. And a drop of new releases annually average.
And honestly... Not many have enticed me. Doom Eternal looks to be my only "next gen" game I am excited about, maybe Nioh 2. Other then that, stoked about getting Oddworld games on Switch way more.
Hate to say it but I've been experiencing major superhero fatigue due to years of Marvel movies and superhero TV, among other things.
However, I am still willing to make an exception for Platinum's W101 and P.G.G., and hope that they move on afterward to new concepts and ideas.
Henshin a-go-go baby!!!
