Update: Nintendo UK has now published a message about this update on Twitter. If you can't get a Brain Age score of 20, there's still a way to unlock the Working Memory Challenge. In addition to this, Brain Age players will be able to participate in the first World Brain Training Championship from 15th February until 16th February.

Although Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training for Nintendo Switch is still not available in North America, it's been receiving updates since its Japanese release last December. It's now up to Version 1.2.0 and surprisingly the latest patch adds new memory training.
Here are the full patch notes, courtesy of Perfectly Nintendo:
adds a new Training: Working Memory Training (only available for users with Brain Age = 20 years old)
As noted, this is only available to users who have a brain age of 20 years. This latest update follows on from a patch at launch which added the ability to send yourself and others your training and brain age results via email.

I so need this game. Love Nintendo for making diverse games like this. Too many companies try to play it safe and are afraid to innovate like Nintendo.
So, if your Brain Age under 20 points = you are not smart enough to play the new updates ?
Unless I've been living under a rock, I'm honestly surprised there's STILL been no word on this game coming stateside...
I really wanna import, but I worry that the second I do, NoA just shadow drops it out of nowhere.
Too bad it STILL hasn’t released in North America.
I hope they've refined the handwriting recognition.
Damn thing recognises half my 5s as 9s! My 5s look nothing like 9s! Hell, it's probably the only number that I write neatly!
I've also noticed that when changing the console language to Japanese, that the Masterpiece Recital activity contains some Japanese-exclusive pieces (no further exclusives for the other languages; I checked). So, once having playing each piece at least once, you can change your system language to Japanese to play the other pieces once per day for a bit of extra content (don't worry, this won't mess up your save data). Frankly, it's idiotic that they even made any of the pieces exclusive at all (similarly, some of the European pieces aren't included in the Japanese song list). That's just content that they're withholding for no good reason whatsoever! Just let us access all of the songs by default!
The Japanese version's "Read Aloud" is considered its own activity (so you can fetch an extra stamp after having played through the English version's activities), and the Japanese version also contains an exclusive Kanji activity (which I assume has something to do with joining numerous basic Kanji and writing its combined form, though I could be wrong) in lieu of Word Scramble.
Word Scramble is absolutely awful. I usually just skip whatever doesn't spring at me right away as an early 20 second penalty is more generous than racking my brain for 30-60 seconds and copping a 20 second penalty in addition to that! They should have thrown in a Boggle-like activity in its place instead as the time expectations of the activity, I feel, are unreasonable, particularly given that the words aren't what one would typically use on a day-to-day basis.
I've also noticed a little Easter Egg in the Photographic Memory activity where the real Dr. Kawashima may appear via a photograph (I have only ever encountered it once, and I neglected to take a screenshot/video) and I have been playing the game every day since release, so the likelihood of seeing it must be really low.
Oh, I will never get there.
@DTFaux I was thinking the same thing. I was so close to buying it a few weeks back, thinking at the time it would be shadow dropped in the next Nintendo Direct... whenever that is.
@Anti-Matter I think 20 is the lowest it goes.
I've had the game troll me before, saying my brain age was 80, then saying it was joking, and is actually 31 (or whatever).
Also, you can spin his head on the front screen, keep spinning it and he flies away
Isn’t it really, really hard to get a brain age of 20?
@lyle_catcliffe I'm playing from the release date and I achieved it just once. It reeeaaalyyy depends on exercises you get (they are chosen at random, so one can be easy for you and the other not).
@lyle_catcliffe Not at all. If you play it consistently for 2-3 weeks its difficult not to. You will need to get better at each individual game, don't get me wrong. But if you practice each and try, anyone can do it.
@mesome713
you can make this game yourself with a few memory,suduko and tetris games from the appstore, I have huge buyers remorse for this game such a waste of money.
Meanwhile in North America, I'm playing the 3DS version again. I've made it up to "5 Back" on Devlish Calculations.
@Mince I'm too lazy, I work to much.
@Silly_G I had the same problem with 5's and 9's in the original ds game but I eventually figured out i had to change my writing style and it would work every time. Try changing your starting point from how you typically would write out a 5. If you usually start at the top try writing it from the bottom first. I just used trial and error to figure out what the game liked and then I stopped having problems. It was a little weird at first but it solved my frustrations. With 9's I always start at the top do a circle back to the start point and drop the line, but the game didn't like that. So I switched to starting the circle from the bottom through the top and down. I haven't got a chance to play this new one since I'm in Canada, but hope this helps. If it even makes sense haha
I would get it if I COULD get it...
I feel like the article and title of the article should have been about the Championship happening right now, with the bonus content getting a little mention, rather than the other way around.
@Liam_Doolan
Can we get a video of what this new mode is? I cannot find one anywhere on Youtube.
If it is n-back style exercises, I might actually get this game.
