One surprisingly good animated series released by Netflix in recent years is Castlevania. It's based on the video game series of the same name and stars the one and only Trevor Belmont who must save the world from Dracula's army of demons.
The show was developed by Adi Shankar and a third season was previously confirmed back in November 2018. Now, in an exciting update, we've got what appears to be our first still image of the upcoming season. Here it is:
This image was posted on the official Twitter Castlevania page. In it, you can see Carmilla, who played a significant role in season two, and alongside her are three other characters which have supposedly never been seen before.
While there's been no mention of a release date for this next season, last November, the director said the team was still working on the final episode. Hopefully, that means there's not long to go now. While you wait, though, why not read our reviews of season one and season two.

hooray I hope this means before summer it releases.
The character closest to Carmilla reminds me of Kars.
I still have to watch seasons 1 and 2. But my biggest take away is that castlevania shows are being made and games aren't 😜
Yeah exactly! The show is nice and all but how bout some games? If Konami doesn't want to do it sell the rights to somebody else! It's just sad that so many great franchises out of that turd of a company are dead now. Castlevania, metal gear, Silent hill etc.
Revamp it (see what i did there) or whatever just give us a ligit true return to form and none of that spiritual succesor garbage.
Now this'll get me to re sub to Netflix. Also, anyone liking this show might want to try watching Dracula. From what I've seen it's a pretty good Dracula show to sink your teeth into. It should tide you over till Castlvania drops
Nice! I enjoyed the first two season. Looking forward to season 3 for sure.
@NintendoByNature Don't trust Konami to make a good game anymore really as much as I would like to see one.
So excited! The past 2 seasons were a blast!
Can't wait to see what they will be doing next!
@Pichuka97
The new Dracula series is only okay unfortunately. Interesting idea but...meh overall.
There was a second?
First one was so short I don’t remember any of it.
@willi3su I only saw the first episode thought it was decent. That doesn't give me much hope for the rest of the series 😭 There's always Castlvania at least
@Spoony_Tech true. I really liked bloodstained but there's no point in handing it over to that team. They're already doing what konami won't.
Can't wait for season 3.
@willi3su Really? I thought it was pretty damn good, actually! They managed to completely refresh the traditional story whilst keeping the key elements which made it so powerful in the first place—a very, very difficult thing to do.
It does help to have a decent knowledge of the history of Dracula, such as the Hammer films, Nosferatu and others, but even so I thought it was inspired and entertaining. The writing was top notch. I had a blast watching it.
On a side note, the Christmas Carol series with Guy Pearce and Andy Serkis was bloody brilliant. Similar to Dracula, it took the source material and vamped it up (no pun intended).
@NintendoLife I might be more interested in reading about a Netflix series if Netflix was available on the Switch???
How is this Nintendo news exactly?
@HappyMaskedGuy because it's Castlevania, a series that has appeared on Nintendo systems for decades.
@HappyMaskedGuy What @antdickens said - without the NES, Netflix's Castlevania would never even have happened, and we probably wouldn't still be talking about the franchise now.
@antdickens Please enlighten me when the last Castlevania game graced a Nintendo console? (that wasn’t a virtual console re-release?)
@HappyMaskedGuy certainly, the 3DS was the last one, here's the review for you: https://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/3ds/castlevania_lords_of_shadow_mirror_of_fate
@antdickens By Dickens, you’re right. I apologise.
Keep them coming!
Still though. Until Netflix is actually available on Switch, this seems a bit like reaching around the bottom of the barrel, doesn’t it? Grasping at anything with even the slightest connection to Nintendo?
I mean, let’s say you only own a Switch or 3DS. How can Nintendo owners actually access this show?
@HappyMaskedGuy not at all. We always try to cover the crossover of popular gaming franchises as they go beyond just being games. This is of interest to many of our readers.
@HappyMaskedGuy Are you suggesting that if you can't watch a show / movie on a piece of Nintendo hardware, we shouldn't cover it? I don't think we're being too outlandish by assuming that our readers might have other means of accessing Netflix besides their games console. I hear these mobile phones are all the rage right now?
@Damo Not everyone can afford a mobile phone, Damo. You’re making a pretty big assumption there.
After all, this isn’t Nintendo and Mobile Phone Life is it?
@HappyMaskedGuy What are you viewing the site on right now, out of interest?
@Damo I wasn’t referring to myself. I prefer to think broadly, inclusively, hypothetically.
Just seems illogical to me for a Nintendo specific site to report on products and services which aren’t accessible through Nintendo hardware.
Would you review a new Banjo Kazooie game that came out on the XBox, for example?
Not to mention the fact that Netflix isn’t a free service either.
@HappyMaskedGuy I'm not sure you even know what point you're trying to make anymore
@antdickens Don't forget the Castlevania collection on Switch. Which is, while emulated, not a Virtual Console release.
@HappyMaskedGuy though I don't mind them covering this, I do get where you coming from😂😂😂.
But its nice news, if I didn't came to this site today I wouldn't know about season 3 of Castlevania coming soon and it's still related to Nintendo's gaming history.
How long has it been for season 3 to be announced?
@HappyMaskedGuy If you're lucky enough to be able to buy a Switch and some games, you're probably fine with buying a moderately new phone that can, with data or not, access apps like Netflix.
Uh huh. And here I thought it was dead in the water.
Awesome news, can't wait! First two series were great.
Still no Grant Danasty...not surprising, but still saddening.
@NintendoByNature Bloodstained is probably the closest we're getting to new Castlevania.
Shame they soiled the bed on the Switch port.
@Zeraki i actually didn't mind the port of bloodstained on switch. Some stutters, 2 hard crashes, and muddy textures but all and all i loved playing it.
