The 1980s saw the birth of many iconic video game characters. It started off with Game & Watch and Pac-Man and a year later we got Mario and Donkey Kong. In the same decade, we saw Link, Mega Man and Samus for the first time ever.
To celebrate this era, this Friday, on 13th December, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Switch will be hosting a special three-day tournament. As you can see above, the tournament will feature the characters already mentioned and the additional ones featured in the event's promotional artwork.

Take it to the fridge!
Wait. 1980 will be 40 years next month! That's crazy almost half a century with these iconic characters
@Ttimer5 These characters were not out in 1980
@YANDMAN oh yes I know, but they have been out from 1980 onwards, so almost half a century. Many started back in the 80s.
1982 was a damn good year (I was born )
shouldnt it be young link instead of link ? since spirit battles uses young link to represent LoZ.
I hope there'll be a 90's edition. I was born in the late 80's so I'm more of a 90's kid.. besides then I'll get to pick Yoshi.
I love the pixel characters so much. My partner thinks am silly for liking old skool games.think am gonna have to try hollow knight. Looks really good and gotta try it..... Latecomer on that one 💸💸
@8bitdaysaweek These are all clearly 8-bit NES sprites, this is as named an 80's battle. What else do you need to know.
@ryobi85 You need a different partner.
Cool! Happy, and thankful to have been an 80's baby!
