The Game Awards 2019 is only a week away, and we now know that "around 10 new games" are set to be revealed during the show.
Geoff Keighley, the show's creator and host, recently sat down for an 'Ask Me Anything' discussion on Reddit. Plenty of non-serious questions came flooding in - "Do you think you could beat [Bethesda's] Todd Howard in a fight?" was a particular highlight - but other questions got Keighley to spill fresh details about the upcoming show.
Here's what he said when asked about the number of reveals we can expect this year:
"We have a bunch of brand new games being announced at the show -- I think there are around 10 new games/projects being revealed if you want to count the things that no one has heard about yet."
Should Nintendo fans be excited, then? Well, while we'd expect the majority of these reveals to be titles for other platforms, last year's awards did bring us the exciting reveal of Switch-exclusive Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. Even if that particular game isn't your exact cup of tea, it was certainly a surprise and we'd love to see a similarly intriguing game come out of this year's event.
Last month, we got our hands on the full list of nominations for the awards themselves, so feel free to check those out right here. The Game Awards 2019 is scheduled to take place on 12th December at 5:30pm PT / 8:30pm ET (so that's 1:30am GMT the following morning) and will run for around two and a half hours.
Are you hoping for any big Switch reveals during the show? Let us know what you hope to see in the comments below.

I'm not expecting a big Nintendo game reveal at the GOTY Awards. However, I am seeing a Smash Character Reveal in the near future.
Ehhh, with the possible exception of a Smash character, it will probably be nothing but big third party games from big publishers who cannot be bothered to support the Switch... wow I really am a positive one. Would be nice if Metroid Prime Triology got confirmed though.
@patbacknitro18
That's what I'm anticipating as well, after Joker's surprise reveal at The Game Awards 2018.
The same approach won't work twice though, the impact of his reveal was that we had no idea it was Smash Bros.
If we do get a big game reveal though, i'm not expecting it to be one of Nintendo's popular entries. I don't see a new Mario or Kirby announcement, and we already know about Breath of the Wild 2 and Metroid Prime 4. So if they are going to reveal a brand new AAA game, it would have to be a lesser touched series....perhaps ARMS 2
In the very unlikely event that something actually interesting is revealed, I'm pretty content to just read about it afterwards as I sure ain't watching The Game Awards.
@RupeeClock The thing is, it could still work here. Imagine a trailer comes on, it starts playing when suddenly the Kingdom Hearts orchestra tunes in. Then we get taken to the pits of Hell set in Doom, when all of a sudden a loud Fus Ro Dah can be heard alongside the roars of a dragon. Then Zombies pop up from the ground and start walking towards some pistol noises. And then above all of this, a tall purple shadow appears..........BOOM BUBSY IS READY TO CLAW THE COMPETITION!!! (It would be even better than the Joker trailer)
@MS7000 Why hasn't MP Trilogy been released yet?! 🤷♂️ That would be an instabuy for me and many many others. Just release the damn thing already.... Oh and be sure to include all 3 on a single cart.
Cranky Kong for Smash.
Might see some third party switch stuff, like CTR last year.
Is it just me, or Nintendo’s 2020 lineup pretty barren so far?
@Alpha008 I want a new Donkey Kong Country game! The wait has been so long.
@XO-Frats I really wish I knew. It would certainly make the wait for MP4 much more tolerable. I am not too worried about the cart since it would be Nintendo themselves, but you never know I suppose.
@BenAV I'm with you, the Game Awards itself normally feels very bloated and can be a bore to watch.
On a separate note, it could be because of the Game Awards and that they will wait until next month, but it has been 3 months since the last Nintendo Direct; we must be due for one soon.
New character added to Super Mario Maker 2
Lets hope some new good stuff
Bayonetta 3 gameplay ? Hope we get something good at least!!!
Given how Switch seems to be the only hardware selling in big numbers it would make sense to expect a slightly greater proportion of Switch-related announcements than previously, but what do I know?
@patbacknitro18 Nintendo revealed Bayo 3 and MUA the last two years so I wouldn’t be surprised if something got revealed this year
Wouldn't expect Nintendo to reveal anything new here (except the 5th Smash dlc character). New game announcements at the game awards are typically underwhelming, so don't be surprised if only 1 of these actually ends up being something exciting.
My money is on a Metroid Prime Trilogy HD reveal and a Breath of the Wild 2 trailer.
@MS7000 Going by previous years, there won't be another Direct until late January/ early February. It'll be a big one though with lots of reveals.
I’m guessing they might announce Wario Land for the switch....... he he he
My imaginary money is on the imaginary Pikmin4.
I’ll be expecting to hear about that supposed Vanquish remaster, especially an announcement for it on Switch. Who knows what it’ll be?! It’s all unknown and unannounced!
@patbacknitro18 I personally would love to get ARMS 2, but I think it's way too soon for that. I'm thinking they may reveal a collection or an HD remake.
I hear a lot of chatter about Super Mario Sunshine recently. Maybe time for a remake of SMS?
Otherwise, the popular prediction of Metroid Prime Trilogy seems logical, and I would welcome it.
Pikmin4 4 , Skies of Arcadia, and Shenmue for Switch.
Switch reveals will probably be whatever is needed for a Direct to happen in February rather than January. So Smash DLC, maybe some other DLC like MUA3 and Fire Emblem, a February 2020 game and some news on 1 or more of the upcoming games we know very little about like Bayonetta 3 or BotW 2.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore is a lot more niche than NSMBU Deluxe so nothing between that and Animal Crossing feels unlikely.
I think i'm the only person who'd rather see Metroid prime 4 and more information on Xenoblade 1 remake instead of BOTW 2.
On another note, also Bandanadee for Smash
Bayonetta 3 trailer.
BotW2 trailer
Smash DLC 5 reveal/“available now”
Shin Megami Tensei 5 trailer
Persona 5 Royal Switch trailer
I think as long as I get some freebies for stuff I have, i'd be happy. I mean we got BOTW dlc the last time and Fortnite on Switch. So hopefully we get a few free digital stuff. Last year was awesome.
I’m guessing we’re going to see the 5th Smash character revealed. I don’t really think a big game announcement is going to be revealed by Nintendo at TGA, but I think we’ll see Nintendo reveal Metroid Prime Trilogy HD, and maybe a new trailer for BOTW2. And a lot of 3rd party stuff.
That's exciting as a gaming fan in general. Excited at the prospect of new Switch games announced. But I won't be gutted if there aren't
@JasmineDragon I wouldn't mind a Super Mario Sunshine or a Wind Waker remake/remaster on the Switch. Two of my favourite games and I no longer have my 'Cube or Wii U.
@Grumblevolcano According to the release schedule, there's supposed to be another DLC pack for MUA this year, so that might be announced.
@XO-Frats because if you look at the sales figures Metroid is one of the least profitable ips. Fans say they will buy it but they dont. Majority of the ppl who complain dont play it. Also retro is already having internal issues with the company
@Alpha008 Barren? What do you mean. We dont know much but a new animal crossing, xenoblade, spongebob and possible new mario, pokemon or other ip. Plus TBD games like Silksong and Botw 2
@antonio2244 agreed! Tropical freeze is still the best 2d platformer ever and nintendo didnt even acknowledge its anniversary
@MS7000 probably in January or February preferably
@Zach777 lol u wish no way persona 5 royal for switch. Get a ps3 if you really care
@Kainbrightside bruh I dont think metroid prime collections gonna happen. And I think sabi said doomguy was deconfirmed
@PickledKong64 @OorWullie Agreed. To be fair, the last big Nintendo Direct to be held in December was in 2013, other ones tended to be focused on one game or indies.
@Andymad That would be amazing to see a new Wario Land. I feel like Wario does not get much love anymore outside of WarioWare.
@Alpha008 Isn't the only 1st party game slated Animal Crossing? Metroid is going to be an end of life cycle choice for sure.
@PickledKong64 We can always dream right?
@PickledKong64
One can imagine. Why a PS3?
I stayed up for this in the wee-hours of the UK last year. Never again.
Dreadful show imo.
It's far more of an environment for gamers who's core console is PS4 or XBO, and who were brought up on Call of Duty type games. If that's you, go for it.
I'll find out about any pleasant unexpected surprises the morning after.
I guess Mother 3 is out of the question.
@Zach777 it has persona 4, 5 and I think 3 and 2 but I got one with persona 5 and 4 for 65 bucks. Totally worth it if your a Nintendo fan
@PickledKong64 I was rather referring to games with a known release date. Metroid could still be ages away.
I’m not saying they don’t have anything for 2020, but we don’t have much information about what is coming and when (from Nintendo themselves, anyway)
I see three things from Nintendo at The Game Awards
1) 5th Smash character (no clue who it could be)
2) Bayonetta 3 trailer
3) new unconfirmed game announced
*No BOTW sequel, No Shin Megami Tensei 5, No Metroid
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 was a very nice surprise last year, would be nice to get something like that again.
Well, whatever they are, I'll find out afterwards. I find the show so cringy and awful to watch with the prominent presence of streamers.
@RupeeClock I felt the surprise was more the character and how the reveal happened, not the existence of a reveal. Nintendo promoted Smash way too much in 2018 for there to be no Game Awards presence.
@JasmineDragon ARMS 2?Dont you mean LEGS?Cue sarcastic chuckle
I am hoping for Star Fox or F-Zero as I do everytime there is a possibility of a game announcement. So far no luck, but that's ok
