Walmart Appears To Break Yet Another Street Date As Unreleased amiibo Appear In Store

Now this I have to see. My Walmart has things long after people complain about them selling out so my Walmart would be a good candidate to have them early.

It's not like something I have to have. I can wait till Friday to pick it up with the game.

Link's Awakening Amiibo is the only reason I want to buy one. But why so damned expensive??? Amiibo should only cost around $10 at most

@Spoony_Tech I'm guessing the problem may be that unless you have it pre-ordered, you may turn up at Walmart at opening time on release day to find them already sold out and left wondering how that's possible.

Also why do the amiibo pictured have the Japanese names printed on them?

Unless the box it’s ships in explicitly has a “don’t not sell before xx/xx” sticker on it, they’re gonna put it out on the sales floor.

@Kineas all Amiibos these days have both the English and Japanese on them, as far as I know

I love amiibo's, their just little pockets of love and care for characters I grew up with. Looking forward to getting my squirtle, Ivysaur, and Links Awakening Amiibo's this Friday! Not really in too big of a rush to run to Walmart.

This might come as a shocker, but here in France, most retailers don't really give two ****s about release dates. As soon as they have it in stock, they put them up. I was actually going to look to see if some are already available after work.

It's a shame we don't get a Goose amiibo on the 20th as well.

@Mykillvee Try buying them in the UK... if you can't get direct from the Ninty UK Store at £12.99 ($16) then they're usually £14.99 ($18.7) each

The real question is, how are they finding these?! Walmart never has amiibo, like, ever, haha.

Walmart, this is cool and all that you’re selling them not only early but cheaper than MSRP, but you’re gonna get into a lot of trouble...probably.

What ticks me off is Wal-mart puts them out on the shelf then refuses to sell them until the release date!

@Mykillvee Most amiibo have always been either $13 (from the beginning) or $16 (starting with the BotW figures and continuing with most afterwards). There’s a few exceptions where they’re more expensive, like the $20 BotW Guardian or the $40 Mega Yarn Yoshi.

My point being, the only way you’ll get an amiibo for $10 is either on sale, which rarely ever happens, or second hand, which is always ridiculously overpriced. Good luck finding Link for the price you want, my friend, but if you’re willing to pay the extra $3, I’d go for Walmart.

I usually don't buy Amiibos. But this. I had to buy this.

I used to work for Wal-Mart and I’m finding this hard to believe. Sometimes, items would accidentally be put out before the release date because Wal-Mart is awful, but the register wouldn’t let you buy them

@Kineas That’s a new thing with the Smash Ultimate line. They’re including the English and Japanese names for added box aesthetic, and sometimes the French and Spanish names as well. (The French and Spanish names were also present on most Smash for 3DS/Wii U amiibo.)

@MH4 I just hope that game turns out to be a hit. We haven't seen much of it so I still have my reservations. At the very least it looks like it'll be hilarious.

@Giygas_95 That’s all I’m looking for: a good laugh 😃 Plus, I’m pretty sure it’s on sale with a “special launch price” of $15 rather than $20, so that helps in case it’s not as fun as hoped.

@Mykillvee I mean this in the most polite way possible... but who are you to say what something should be priced at? Amiibos have always had the $12.99 msrp here in the States.

My local target already has the Link's Awakening amiibo out, but I don't really care much for collecting them.

my collection keeps on growing going to get the new ones as well.

I've pre-ordered my Link's Awakening amiibo, so I won't bother checking my Walmart. I typically avoid it since it's a zoo most of the time and only go there on a have to basis (not a crowd person).

Hmm I'll stop by after work.

Anytime I find stuff out early at Walmart or Target the register never allows it to be rung up.

I'm not that into Amiibo but I've got to have Ivysaur. Link is super cute but probably going to pass on him, save that money for actual games.

@Pablo17 Same here. I tried to buy a bunch of Amiibo that had apparently been set out like a week early last year and the barcode turned up empty.

@adh56 However, the one time I tried to buy something from them before street date (a Dragon Age 2 guide) the register wouldn't allow it to be rung up.

I work at a Walmart. A few days before the NES Classic was re-released I saw them out on the shelves. I told the associate working back there that the release date was supposed to be the 29th and had him try to check it out for me to be sure. It couldn’t be bought and I was right about the release date, so I told management they needed to get the product (ended up explaining what exactly it was multiple times) off the shelf ASAP or someone who isn’t ME would try to buy them and the store would have a mess. They were removed immediately and I made sure the night shift manager knew so there wouldn’t be a repeat offense.

A few days later I bought it for real on the proper release date then I bought a second one as an anniversary gift for my sister and brother-in-law.

Already have the amiibo on pre-order as well as I personally won’t walk into, let alone purchase anything from walmart. But this is good for those who would like to get this stuff early

The Target near me had the new Link's Awakening amiibo's out - but when I went to purchase two of them the register said "can't sell before Sept 20th". So the manager had the electronics Dept remove the remaining amiibo's off the floor.

@teamdave2002 Since I have never bought an amiibo before, I had no idea they were that expensive. And yes, they are expensive compared to other toys or figures the same size. I do realize that these amiibo can be used for in-game abilities, but we all know that they're mostly for display.

I wish someone would break the street release date on dragon quest XI S. The game.
