NPD Video Game Industry Analyst Mat Piscatella has shared the top 10 best-selling games on the Nintendo Switch in North America since the system was launched in 2017. This includes physical game sales as well as digital sales for publishers who are members of the digital leader panel.
Nintendo is responsible for nine of the top ten best-selling Switch releases to date. Unsurprisingly Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still in the lead. Ubisoft was the only third-party publisher included on the list (Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle). Unfortunately, no exact sales figures were provided:
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Super Mario Party
- Splatoon 2
- Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu!
- Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!
- Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
Is this the line-up you were expecting to see? Do you own all of these games? Tell us down in the comments.

1-4 and 6 are good ones. The rest make me want to vomit.
What is Mario + Rabbids doing at 9? Where's uhhh... (what AAA title should be there hmmm)
No Vroom in the Night Sky? No Ark: Survival Evolved? No Troll and I?
This list is clearly fake news. Do better NintendoLife.
I’m glad to see Mario + Rabbids doing well. It’s a fantastic game and one of the must haves of the system.
Nintendo fans: We don't like Wii U ports to Switch! Lazy!
Also Nintendo fans: makes a Wii U port the #1 Switch game
@JR150 actually I’d be cool with more ports
I believe worldwide Super Mario Odyssey is in front of Breath of the Wild, so it's nice to see that us Americans love Zelda.
And put NSMBU DX a few spots lower where it belongs.
This list is accurate! It’s like that on the Eshop! Also, I’m not Surprised, these are Fantastic Games! I highly recommend buying these games!
@CoastersPaul actually, no it’s not!
Surprised Super Mario Party sold better than Splatoon 2, but that's American families for you.
@SnesSwitch Actually, yes SMO is ahead of LoZ:BOTW in terms of total sales according to Nintendo’s official numbers.

@JR150 People are fine with ports. Breath Of The Wild is fantastic. And isn't MK8 Deluxe kinda an upgrade?
Super Mario Party outsold Splatoon 2, and yet Splatoon 2 got 2 years of updates whereas Super Mario Party was abandoned immediately after launch.
I always thought we'd get Mario party dlc. But I'm beginning to think that joy cons are a thing of the past and a Mario party sequel would come out with more traditional button mapping. As for Mario. If they had enough dlc for Zelda (which had some dlc)to just make a sequel then shouldn't I believe a odyssey sequel is in the works as well.
@JR150 I'm waiting for Dr Luigi, pikman 3, wind waker and nes remix.
The same list over and over again...
@CoastersPaul
Mario Odyssey is ahead of Zelda BOTW if you include digital sales.
Wish Splatoon was higher on the list. But, I am glad it’s there. Having not played the 1st one, I blindly bought the 2nd (day one) and do not regret that purchase. Just a well made game. Whenever Splatoon 3 comes out, I will be there.
Can't wait for Animal Crossing to be #1 by this time next year. BotW2 has a chance to outsell the first one if they add temples and tone down the breakable items. I'd also like a new Mario Kart since I'd played 8 to death years before the port. Besides all that, the Switch has done its job, time for Switch 2 and a new bunch of games from all the main series all over again.
Its still disappointing to see such a small number of third party studios making Switch exclusive games. Mario Rabbids should have shown these studios how lucrative a well made Switch exclusive can sell, but it’s been 2 years and there is still so little to play that isn’t a Nintendo game or an indie. AA mid budget games is the biggest hole in the Switch library. That’s why I really hope games like Astral Chain and Shin Megami Tensei 5 will have great sales.
@personauser93 but Mario and rabbits had the Mario license. Other third party games don't. And as much as Nintendo fans want to pretend that portability trumps all... graphics and proper online does make a difference. It's why FIFA sells so much better on ps4 and or Xbox. Plus less and less games are exclusive these days because of development costs. Also other then first party games I don't really see why any game should be exclusive. The only people who want to see exclusive games are fans of one system only. That's not good for the consumer and for prices.
"Sony Doesn't See Nintendo As A Major Rival, More Worried About Microsoft Next Generation"
Unless something extreme happens... Just comparing this list with the Xbox/PS4 top 10 on that link, you see SONY is right on the Money.
They night and day. One simply becomes the "2nd device" to the other.
@Bolt_Strike if those make you want to vomit, you need to see a doctor, cause that ain’t right.
Not enough AAAAA Western games!!11 Waaaaah!
No but seriously, seeing Smash shoot up to number 2 is very impressive.
I am glad so many people got to enjoy Mario+Rabbids!
I think in all fairness that both Let's Go games should be combined into one figure since they're essentially the same game, but eh...details.
I own five of the ten, but I only like two of them.
@Vectorman Just haven't got round to selling them yet.
@JR150
Almost as if they’re different people. I think you get a few very vocal port complainers but most people don’t care. Especially about Wii U ports as most people didn’t buy that system.
@personauser93
Third party exclusives are rare on any system these days, especially once you take away those that have been in some way funded by the platform holder. They just don’t make financial sense.
I own the whole list, Nice list good to see many wii u games got the attention they deserve
@Agramonte I think it’s become more common to see gamers in their 20s-30s to have at least 2 consoles. Microsoft’s biggest enemy is themselves at this point, not Sony. I, and I’m sure many, would gladly buy a new XBox before PS if they said “there’s 5 awesome exclusive games in development” or do something cool with the hardware. The One just looks like snake oil to me.
I'm not 100% sure with Mario + Rabbids. I wanted to buy it, but I'm not really that interested in the Rabbids and I'm not really the best with strategy games.
No surprises here
Where is Super Mario Maker 2? D:
@KryptoniteKrunch you forgot to say “waaaaahhhh!!!! Graphics!!!! Waaaaaahhh!!!! Powwwwaaaaahhhhh!!!!”
@AlphaElite this is only in the US, Splatoon 2 sold far better word wide compared to Mario party
But the lack of updates is stupid
@SpaceboyScreams the switch is far from done! It is a great success and there is no need to upgrade yet, maybe about 3 years from now it will make sense
@personauser93 Well... Tbh I don't think it matters that much that we lack third party exclusives. People clearly enjoy the handheld aspect of the Switch enough to buy multiplats in great numbers.
Personally I've played more third party titles on Switch than any other console before, which I'm actually happy about - I'd never have bothered with them much before because many games are tedious to play on the big screen unless you magically find a day where you're left alone for 12 consecutive hours (I don't find those days, lol).
@sixrings fifa isn’t selling bad on the switch because it is weaker, it is selling bad on the switch because the switch version is just an after thought for them and they put zero effort into it, it is a game that can run on the switch with high performance, but they don’t try to give us this experience
Just look on how 2k19 run compared to Fifa 19
And they will never actually try to make it better as they said that from now on they will give us only “legacy edition”
As someone who owns the original Mario Kart 8 I really want Mario Kart 9. It isn't going to happen any time soon.
Great to see Rabbids on the list. Awesome game.
@Tantani This is the thing, consumers aren't stupid, if third parties aren't pushing out products worth buying, they won't get bought. People aren't going to buy third party games that are half-baked and thrown out to die in the hope they'll give us something better. It doesn't work like that.
People saying third parties don't sell on Nintendo platforms are conveniently ignoring the fact that a steady stream of news point at indies sales on the Switch surpassing PS and Xbox combined. 3rd party games will sell if there is value in those. Western 3rd parties have better agendas these days - how to grab more cash and layoff more people to feed the CEO and his limbs. EA, Activision, Bethesda, Ubisoft, Blizzard, 2K, Rockstar - every one of those companies have something controversial/shady going on as we debate. I am not saying that Nintendo's mobile policy is any better, but in the console space, the Switch being a portable console has become a boon, as in live services (read microtransaction mechanics) do not work that well. That is the primary reason these AAA 3rd parties are not doing well/not interested.
@WiltonRoots exactly, EA gave us a stupidly bad port and expected us to just buy it, we are not stupid so we didn’t, instead of giving us a better version, they decided that from now on, we will get this version again and again with updated rosters every year, so we, I hope will continue to not buy it
I have all of these games, except for the 2 Pokemon games. And I've highly enjoyed all of the ones on this list that I have. Plus the many more that aren't listed that I also have.
@San_D Yep, the infrastructure of the Switch doesn't suit the so-called "AAA" need to bleed people dry. Personally I want to see indies do better, the better they do financially, the better chance they have of producing more ambitious titles down the line. I don't think Nintendo promoting independent projects is accidental. They're looking at the long game.
@WiltonRoots exactly, right now the indies are the key innovators in this industry, and Nintendo has done well to embrace them, while Sony keeps pushing them away. This actually gels well with Nintendo's less powerful hardware as well. And talking of the long game, the format change to homeheld has raised my hopes for Switch become a continuing platform (like Steam) instead of console generations, thereby allowing to play the same games 10 years from now, on the latest Switch. Since the homeheld is such a unique concept, it would be very difficult to go back to a system which is not portable/not pluggable to a TV, and if following the same form factor, why not keep the library going? One can only hope.
@BensonUii Yes, 80% "Multiplatform" that do not include the Switch.
So they do the same thing... make people want to buy either a PlayStation or XBOX. Hence Microsoft and SONY are the ones competing for that Gamer.
@NotTelevision
Yes,... Gamers do not like missing out on great games. The Market can supports more than one platform - and people buy 2 many times.
On that we agree 100% and the sale numbers show it is true.
Gamers want to play Persona 5 and Xenoblade2... Nier: Automata and Astral Chains.... NBA2k and Madden... Wolfenstein and Borderlands3.... The Witcher and CyberPunk.
Microsoft watered down the XBOX brand when they put most of their "exclusives" on PC.
@San_D Plus with the advent of 4K the risks involved in producing these big budget "AAA" games gets higher and higher, only a handful of companies are going to be able to survive if they flop...usually people like EA, Activision, 2k and Ubisoft. None of whom actually make games I want to play.
I still playing botw from 2017
@Tantani what was the percentage of nba2k games sold on switch vs ps4 and Xbox. Talking for myself I bought the Xbox version so I could voice chat and the graphics are crazy. I'm sure there's more people with that mindset then with hey I can play portable.
@San_D I believe that with time we will see actually more and more indie developers straight up ditching the PS brand because Sony act worse and worse towards them and we will see more Switch exclusive (or pc/switch exclusives) indies as this is by far the indies market
@Tantani you're getting legacy editions because like it or not the sales don't warrant the effort. Also when ps5 and the next Xbox come out there will be no way to downgrade the graphics enough.
@Tantani great so we will have a first party and indie machine with very very little actual AAA third party games other than Xbox or ps3 ports. Awesome.
@sixrings the only reason the sales are so low is because the port is so bad, in 2017 and 2018they lied to us, saying it is the full game but they didn’t have us some of the game modes, of course it will sell bad
If you don’t sell a quality product, why would anyone buy it?
And I said we will get more indies just for the switch, I didn’t say it is all we gonna get, if the switch will have big enough install base, we will get any game that can be put on it
@Tantani doom sold 450k first week on ps4 200k on Xbox and 85k on Switch. That was a good port. Those numbers aren't great. There's so few third party games I have to think really hard to make console comparisons.
Great games. I own 9/10.
What a great time to be a nintendo fan!
@sixrings the sales don’t warrant the effort? I think this statement is in the wrong tense and the wrong way round. IMO The effort very much warranted the sales. I.e. Poor effort = Poor sales. They screwed it up. I was ready to buy my first FIFA game on a Nintendo system in years and they released a sub par version. Now they have the excuse to put in minimal effort with future switch releases. If they had put in the effort then I think the switch version would have taken off! Perhaps they don’t like money. Perhaps they have too much money already and don’t care about the gamer.
@sixrings
Doom was released to all platforms but the switch in may 2016, 10 months before the switch was out, the PS4 install base was 40 something million, the Xbox was probably on 20-30 million install base
It was released to the switch in November 2017, the switch install base was less than 10 million and it was released right after Mario odyssey and fire emblem warriors and right before skyrim and xenoblade 2
It was a very packed time slot with still small install base
Watching Red Faction Guerilla ReMarstered edition on Digital Foundry. 320p in performance mode when portable. 720p-900p docked. You don't think graphics make a difference in sales? I'm so confused. If you own multiple systems and you don't play portable often on the switch why wouldn't you buy a PlayStation or Xbox version.
@beazlen1 seems to be a lot of excuses to explain away poor sales. No one really knows. All we know is it didn't sell.
Let's wait till wolfenstein sequel comes out day and date. Although on nx press podcast the person who saw it at e3 said he was almost sick playing it because the graphics were so bad.
Breath of the Wild has sold more than Mario Odyssey in the states. That must be a first for a Zelda game outselling a mainline 3D Mario game!
@JR150 Or, yano, Wii U didn't sell that well so there's more people that haven't played/bought them before than people who don't want to buy them again.
I've personally double dipped on a few of them, but then again, I threw the old Wii U versions on ebay for what was near full price, they sold for that amount and I bought what is essentially now the "definitive version" of them on the Switch.
Get Xenoblade Chronicles X ported and I can pretty much sell the Wii U since everything has been ported.
Pokemon should seriously be counted as one game. Been saying that for years. In my book this is a Top 9 list.
@NintendoFan4Lyf that is a kind interpretation of the digital foundry analysis. From my take they were impressed that the game could run at all on the system but the docked play was several compromised and not the way they would want to play. On the other hand portable mode was playable. That isn't good and it definitely isn't great. 320p 30fps can never be defined as great.
If you consider Indies as third party games sure Nintendo switch is doing well. When I think of third parties I think of grand theft auto, assassin creed, red dead, call of duty, apex legends, star wars, ea sports, witcher, final fantasy. On that front the system isn't doing good yet alone great.
I have a Xbox one x at my house and a Xbox one s at my cottage. I can access the games from both places. Sure I can't play them on the drive to the cottage but I don't have a automated car yet and or a driver. So for me I'm perfectly happy buying my third party games at the same price or lower which run better on my Xbox vs my switch.
@sixrings Really? I have absolutely zero interest in Red Faction so it's no loss. So far the only benefits I'm hearing from your perspective is graphics with regards to these games. You listed grand theft auto, red dead, call of duty, apex legends, star wars, ea sports, witcher, final fantasy. What would draw me to a more powerful console if I personally have no interest in any of those titles, most of which are lootbox and "surprise mechanics" laden? Bear in mind realism doesn't dazzle me at all, give me art style every day.
This should be proof enough that Nintendo won't release a revision to the Switch any time soon. Games are selling incredibly well, alongside the hardware.
I'm surprised this remains at the top. I know it's their #1 franchise overall, but I didn't think it would have legs THIS long. It does surprise me that on WiiU it wasn't able to move more consoles than it did. I understand all of WiiU's problems, but I still fail to understand how it managed to do quite as badly as it did with such an excellent library of games people really DO want to play, apparently.
Also, I'm a bit heartened to see it beat Smash.
@WiltonRoots maybe you are ok with ports with compromised graphics, have little interest in voice chat or just don't like realistic games but you are only one person which means you only vote with your wallet once. Other people may disagree with your assessment and vote with their wallets differently. Unless you are positive there are more people in the graphics don't matter much camp then you shouldn't be so smug. By the way red dead made more money in opening weekend than any movie. Clearly people like realistic games even if you don't care. If graphics didn't matter and portability really WAs the be all and end all then PlayStation and xbox wouldn't be focusing on more power but instead they would be making portable versions of their systems. They aren't though. Perhaps the truth is Nintendo has made a system with their own games in mind and they really don't care too much if there are third party games on their system or not.
@NintendoFan4Lyf people are questioning why there are no third party games on the list. All I'm doing is explaining why. I'm not poo pooing as you would say.
Sure witcher is coming. But what will it look like. As some Nintendo fans have said who went to e3 some of these incoming ports don't look great. When podcasts such as NVC which exist to Foley promote Nintendo actively tell their audience that they are best served to play mortal combat, saints row elsewhere and that witcher looks muddy they aren't trolling. They are giving a psa before people spend their money and are disappointed. Pointing out facts doesn't make you a troll or someone hoping for the demise of Nintendo. Disappointed sure but I do want Nintendo to do well. That said I'm not supporting their games if I can buy them elsewhere for cheaper with better graphics.
@sixrings As I said I only speak for myself, I don't care what other people buy. I'm not buying Switches for everyone around me, much the same as your concern for graphics has absolutely zero to do with me. Nintendo (and Sega when they were still in the game) always made their consoles with their own games in mind first and foremost, whereas Sony and Microsoft had to build their consoles around the demands of third parties as they had no software heritage. The thing is the Switch has been around 2 years, the specs are very well known and nothing is going to change with regards to specs for a while and complaining about it to people non-related to Nintendo won't change anything. So if you want your graphical fix I think you'll find that you're much better off with a more powerful machine.
@WiltonRoots I'm pointing out why there is a lack of third party games selling well on the switch. I know it's limitations.
I would think you must be able to understand even if these other games don't interest you that they interest others which means more system sales. More sales means more games which means more options which I would think is good for you.
@NintendoFan4Lyf my problem if we are going to look at the switch primary as a portable system then is the price of the games. Historically portable games have always cost less than home system counterparts. So what we have here is a system asking full price for third party games which play sub par but are portable. What's worse is games like doom or Diablo were released much earlier on other systems which means you could find them cheaper without a switch tax. If these games were priced lower I think I could be more swayed. But I am increasingly frustrated that maybe nothing except being on par with a base xbox would make me happy. That said I'm sure there are others who think like me.
I expect Mario Maker 2 to replace NSMBU and Pokemon Sword/Shield to replace Pokemon Let's Go by early 2020.
@Bolt_Strike I really liked #9. I bought it when they did the super cheap sale on it, and it is a fun little time waster. When it goes on sale again, you should try it. For $15, it's well worth it.
@sixrings I think one of the big and understated problems with third party AAA devs releasing on Switch is the fear factor. They know Nintendo make quality games that sell tens of millions and most people buy Nintendo machines primarily for Nintendo games so therefore third party games on Switch are up against the toughest and sometimes very unpredictable competition in the business. For a third party game on Switch to sell a lot it has to be truly special. I’d love to listen into Third party board meetings discussing their chances of success on the switch vs PlayBox twins. Focusing on the PlayBox twins seems to me to be the easier and more reliable option
@sixrings Oh yeah I do see your point - I feel the third parties aren't helping themselves by trying to shoehorn games built for PS4 into a device that isn't built for those sorts of games. They're usually rushed and botched. Saying that though I am curious as to what's going to happen with Doom and Wolfenstein as they say they're both being built ground up for Switch.
@WiltonRoots Other than font size, I don't think there's any real difference between a game that works on a PS4 versus works on Switch...I mean that's the whole thing that makes Switch special, it's the first portable that doesn't matter. The older games with the crazy fonts are the ones with the problems, really.
@beazlen1 Though some devs fail to factor in the tastes of the Nintendo audience and compare it to their game. For Doom Eternal I'm certain they know going in Switch is going to be their lowest selling (but still profitable) platform. But then you have Bloodstained where they clearly put all their chips in the PS camp only to find their Switch version is their best seller. Which should have been obvious to them that was going to happen just evaluating the audience......
@Tantani
"Just look on how 2k19 run compared to Fifa 19"
Ok, but NBA 2K is not on that list either. NBA in the US is the same story as FIFA in the UK. A no-show on Switch.
Publishers need a reason to invest. NBA license cost 2K 1.1Billion, You know EA is paying more than that for FIFA.
happy to see BOTW and Odyssey at numbers 3 & 4 and it wont be long till Mario Maker 2 is on this list
@Agramonte an annual microtransaction-laden game not doing well on the Switch? Who could have thought?
@Agramonte pretty sure both games aren’t on the list of the other systems, but that’s not the point, 2K is selling much better on the switch compared to FIFA because it is a higher quality port
Nintendo games will probably forever out sell the 3rd parties on the Nintendo systems, but that doesn’t mean 3rd parties doesn’t sell
I guess the best check for this will be to see how Doom eternal will sell on each platform at the opening weekend, as it releases at the same time on all platforms and this time the switch has a comparable install base to the Xbox one, Xbox players tend to prefer shooters and they still have a slightly higher install base (although it will probably change soon) but it will give us a real comparison
@Vectorman Pokemon games that are released in pairs typically don't have much of a difference between them besides a few plot changes, a couple of areas, and the Pokemon that can be obtained in them. The traditional "third" versions (or sequels in the case of Pokemon Black/White 2) change things up more and are usually worth getting IMO.
@BensonUii Interesting indeed. Thanks for the info! Did they also mention what would have taken the #10 spot in that case?
@San_D You obviously didn't care to read what I was replying at.
I can’t believe it, but I’m stoked Splatoon 2 outsold Pokemon. I am genuinely surprised, I only know one other American with the game, I did have two friends but one sold off his whole Switch in 2017, for a lack of games lol. The dork.
@Agramonte switch owners I guess are too smart for micro transactions. Basically switch owners will do whatever it takes to defend why third party games don't sell well but if they were in charge of third party developing they would have people lined up along the block to buy their games. It's always the developers fault. Never the system or the purchasers fault.
@Tantani But they are... 2K are still in the top 10 of each for May. And my point is not where they land - is if "selling better" is still worth it.
Yes, Nintenndo games will sell better... but they cost 3rd party the same amount to make (or even more with licensing, 30% eShop, and cart fees to Nintendo). They need top multi-million sellers to make a dollar.
See some games like DoomEternal do well - that would be great!. Not even "compared against console X"... just in the Switch Base. Have a few others invest 2 or so years in making a Switch game.
@Agramonte I did, and given your statement that licenses cost these companies and the relative sales screenshot, it appeared to me that you are implying that Switch isn't a viable platform for these companies. My argument is, these companies (2K/EA) do not want to invest in developing a good game and are more interested in pushing their cash grab surprise mechanics. Now feel free to put a counter-argument.
@sixrings Why will it be the purchaser's fault? If western AAA developers can only think of surprise mechanics to bleed people dry and a section of gamers refuse to waste their money in that fashion, is it the customer's fault? And if a customer does want to participate in that circus, nobody is stopping them to buy a PS/Xbox and pay hundreds of dollars for a Neymar card.
@sixrings
grand theft auto- the Switch can run it without problems, no idea how it wasn’t ported already....
red dead: they actually wanted to bring it to switch, but it is probably impossible, kind of a bummer but ok
call of duty: I have no idea why it didn’t come, if it will run well (and it can) it will be incredible seller
apex legends, star wars, ea sports: yay! “Surprise mechanic”.... stay where you are, it’s not that we can have you.... we generally doesn’t really want (ok, the new Star Wars game sound good lol, still.... EA)
witcher, final fantasy: the Witcher 3 is coming, most of the FF games are already on the switch or on the way, and until recently, they were all PS exclusives, so of course other systems didn’t get this support, now finally we can play them
@San_D Well then you didn't understand it.
Better Optimized NBA2K sold better than FIFA on Switch. But clearly, not a break away success. So why would EA care to optimize,... if anything, makes more sense for EA to spend less (FIFA Legacy) and make it "Viable" that way.
Well, I am sure you have a reason why all the other 3rd party games except for Kingdom Battle (that is just XCOM, with a Mario skin and ability pack) are not "good enough" for the Nintendo base. "Microtransations" will simply change to something else... and we arrive at @sixrings post
"nobody is stopping them to buy a PS/Xbox"
That is exactly what they do. Or get a PS+NIN Combo.
@JR150 And #3. And #10.
Overall I agree first party Nintendo games look good. Then again yoshi, Zelda, bayonetta, mm2 super Mario 3d world, Mario odyssey are all 900p and under.
@Agramonte It is a top 10 selling list, 3rd parties not making it does not imply that they are doing badly or not making a profit. Otherwise, Bethesda would not have made the effort to bring Doom Eternal and Wolfenstein Youngblood after the earlier entries. And no one is saying they are not good in absolute terms. But are they better than BOTW or SMO? A very few may be, but mostly not.
The point I was trying to make is, most of the western AAA developers don't want to invest on something like BOTW. Or even if they do, they will try to design the mechanics to encourage microtransactions. This is not something only Nintendo fans are bickering about. Predatory practices are a problem, not just a gaming problem but a social one too.
And finally, talking of EA and legacy editions, this is a company which is really out of touch and nothing will ever be viable for them unless the customers are spending 500 bucks a minute on getting "packs".
A lot of people r buying these Pokemon games, it's intriguing...
@San_D We seem to have a weird mixture of "AAA" apologists in here saying they're having more fun than anyone else, and pixel counters. A Nintendo game can be brilliant, but Digital Foundry said it was only such and such resolution, so therefore that game is now an unplayable mess which will damage your precious eyes. And how dare we question the money grabbing practices of these companies? These are the games we so desperately need! We need to get ripped off by them on every platform.
@Agramonte I think we get the general picture based on all your posts, you're having a better time than everyone else as you have more powerful kit and everyone else is suffering with substandard kit. Nice one.
@Vectorman about what you responded to me, I don’t think GTA isn’t on the system cause Nintendo doesn’t want it there, today there are many games of the genre that on the switch and Nintendo won’t stand in the way of anyone wanting to bring a great game to the Switch
@WiltonRoots so the nba2k games on switch don't have loot boxes? What about switch version of fortnight? I thought they did.
I don't think anyone is defending loot boxes although my preference is just to boycot them versus complain on a thread. On the other hand what I'm reading here is that there are plenty of third party games doing well on other consoles and Nintendo defenders are responding with paraphrase "who cares...those games all include lootboxes." Whether they have loot boxes or not is beside the point. Whether you personally would or would not want the game is beside the point. The entire point is there are third party games doing well on other consoles.
As for the digital foundry comments. I don't need digital foundry to tell me a game is a mess graphics wise. I can see with my own eyes when they comparison is so obvious. I think we're just pointing to digital foundry because they are a neutral site with data backing up their opinions. Otherwise people complaining would just be considered xbox or ps fanboys. Now by Nintendo defenders our neutral source is apparently what were fanboys of and we can't think for ourselves. That's not the case but you're going to believe what you want.
@sixrings I don't touch either games so it's irrelevant. I could walk down to a shop right now and buy a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X right now if I wanted, if it meant that much, it doesn't, it's only games and they would just sit there gathering dust as their games just don't appeal to me regardless of how good they look. All I hear from you is borderline concern trolling based around graphics. You can't seem to post without mentioning graphics. You say you know the limits of the Switch but you can't stop bringing it up. If you know the limits, you'd say "hey it can't do this" and accept it and move on. You can't.
@WiltonRoots then don't ask why third parties avoid or don't do well on Nintendo consoles.
@sixrings I think we should just end our conversation here, it's summer, the sun is shining and let's enjoy it. Have a good weekend. I doubt we’ll ever agree.
I'm starting to think that people by Nintendo consoles to play Nintendo games. Weird.
@J-Plap Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker?
@San_D They do whatever they need to do to make a profit. Why you think YoungBlood has a voucher at retail. Or Publishers outsourced the Switch version instead of making a Switch team in-house. Or release games like The Witcher 3 that already sold 20 million units. They not going to invest CyberPunk money if they see Just Dance and LEGO filling 4 slots out of the top 10 best seller in the US.
FIFA failed because Sports fans didn't sit around waiting for Nintendo to get their act together. So when they release a RISC based console that can't run FrostBite - and the "custom Engine" EA had to make couldn't compete. They simple stayed on whatever system they been playing FIFA for the last 7 years (and did something else on the Bus)
There are 45 Million unique FIFA players as of last quarter report. No way people spending that kind of Money (EA would have made 22 Billion dollars). Tons buy nothing extra, they just ignore it and play the game.
@Agramonte I'm not arguing the Switch's lack of horsepower leading to studios outsourcing the games for optimization. My point is if that outsourcing was not profitable enough, these companies would not have bothered, just like they didn't bother with the Wii U. And the hyperbole about Just Dance doesn't work as Nintendo's games are way way more sophisticated than those and not really comparable.
Your opinion about custom engine in FIFA is pretty limited too, as EA managed to generate enough sales of 18 that they did 19.
And the actual profit is a worthwhile metric, not just active player base, and if they weren't making enough profit selling microtransactions (on the other platforms), why won't they stop or at least acknowledge the harmful effects even when coerced by governments? Because they make a lot of profit from there, may not be billions but sizable enough for them to take on these governments.
Some folks act like games that don't hit the top ten lists aren't selling at all... the truth is many game studios succeed year over year with game sales that never see the top of the charts, but sell consistently. If you only pay attention to the very top of the heap, you're bound to miss out on some great insight...and great games.
