Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for 8th - 14th July. Nintendo's Super Mario Maker 2 has managed to hold onto the top spot, making this its third consecutive week in first!
The game managed to shift another 54,720 copies, with sales now surpassing the 300,000 mark. Bandai Namco's God Eater 3 was the only new entry and placed second, selling 20.960 units. Yo-Kai Watch 4 remained in third place, despite its lower-than-expected sales at launch, and Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball moved up to fourth.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! also made it into the top ten. All up, the Switch took up nine of the ten spots on the charts this week.
Here are the top 10 (first numbers are this week's estimated sales, followed by total sales):

PlayStation 4 Pro: 4,173 (1,213,663)

9 out of the top ten are Switch games? Like it.
Still fascinated that Mariokart is still there
The calm before the storm. End of July-September are going to be crazy months for software sales on the Switch.
Good stuff. Nice to see God Eater hit #2.
Switch ONLY sold 55k units in Japan. This week. Nintendoomed.
Top 9 by Nintendo Switch games.
But i never understand the appeals of Minecraft.
In my opinion, Minecraft was too ugly for me.
Too blocky and no interesting parts whatsoever, compared with other games with Minecraft style such as Portal Knights, Dragon Quest Builders 1/2 with much better character design, furnitures and environments.
I never understand the logic of Blocky textures of Minecraft was more appealing than realistic cartoonish looking textures from both Dragon Quest Builders / Portal Knights.
Am i wrong to think gorgeous looking of Dragon Quest Builders / Portal Knights will never beat the popularity of not interesting at all Cubic looking from Minecraft ?
No surprise here. Eventually everyone who wanted one got one. There isn't much to make any more sales... maybe in a year or 2 when Switch is still a thing and the younger babies who are grown into rugrats they would want to have a switch. lol
@NotTelevision August and September are typhoon season and a pretty big typhoon will hit on September 20th that will send software sales skyrocketing
Hmmm....10m Switches by year end in Japan? Seems perfectly feasible.
55 thousands in a week is still pushing the switch sales very very high!
In out selling the PS4 in Japan by 280 thousands already, until the end of the year it will probably be by a million for the standard (I consider the better battery life a standard as well as it will replace the current model) if not more!
considering the switch lite.... who knows lol
And first 9 places go to the switch! Woo
@NotTelevision lol if this is a “calm” how much will it sell later🤣
@Anti-Matter That’s actually part of the genius of Minecraft. The blocky LEGO-like textures means building, programming, and modding assets is a cinch. There are also people who don’t really play any other video game besides Minecraft. That’s why Nintendo is probably so envious of it. It has a level of player retention that is unprecedented, even amongst the sea of graphically superior live services
@Anti-Matter it’s not all about the graphics. It’s the gameplay.
Play games that are fun to you. It’s not always that a game that is in 1080p will be beautiful resulting in fun.
@Tantani MUA and Astral Chain are going to sell beyond what people are expecting, as long as the reviews are good. Dragon Quest 11 S is going to be the best selling version of the game. Link’s Awakening is going to sell more than the 2d Zeldas on the 3DS. Fire Emblem 3H will also probably go on to be the best selling Fire Emblem game in both NA and Japan.
This is what I’m thinking at least. It’s going to be 🔥
@NotTelevision if dragon quest 11 will sell better on the switch that any other system it will be huge for the series and Nintendo
MUA has an amazingly large hype that I didn’t expect ( I believe it will sell more than the “avengers project” for the PS4) and its exclusive nature will turn it into a system seller
Links awakening will really sell well and FE3H will probably take the GOTY for strategy game
But.... Astral Chains baby!!!! I will definitely buy this thing, and many believe it will take the GOTY!
got to feel sorry of the 18 or so kids that get the xbox each week. mum done bad
@Bunkerneath I was thinking the same thing. Mario Kart is literally all profit. It's such a great game. I think people buying a Switch (today) are buying that game as well...even with all the other titles out there...
Half the top 10 are third party Switch games. Just saying. “But but but third party games don’t sell on Switch only Nindies and they don’t count .”
I am still amazed when I am at the game store and I see someone buying a switch. All I can think is: You have a ton of good games and great times ahead of you.
I am so thankful for this great system!
@Anti-Matter Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. An opinion can't be wrong or right.
It can be easy to forget now, but Minecraft began as a small indie game, made with very basic tools. Dragon Quest Builders started out as a game from a major studio. Minecraft kept its original style is all. Plus the simple style of Minecraft makes it much easier fans to mod.
Minecraft remains popular as an incredibly free game. Not free as in cost, but a game where you can jump in and just do whatever you like. It's like a kid with a pile of blocks or Lego. Sure that blocky looking thing is derpy in the eyes of someone else maybe, but to the kid who spent 10 hours building it, its his space ship, or his castle or his demonic cavern or whatever is going through their imagination. That's what a lot of people like about it. It's a sandbox.
Dragon Quest Builders has a lot in common with it, but a LOT of differences too. It has a game and a story etc... And there is a lot less imagination because you build something and you actually get the thing. Want a chair, get the ingredients and you get an actual chair. It requires less creativity and imagination from the player and gives them a more traditional experience.
[PS4] God Eater 3 (12/13/18) – 150,523
[NSW] God Eater 3 ({2019.07.11} - 20.960
Basically what FALCOM is talking about, on where a games base is. And why they being careful on Switch
You also obviously have a large group who have PS4+Switch homes and will just Play their favorite games on whatever it comes first (or usually play it on)... Why same time release is important.
@Agramonte are those the sales of their first week? Otherwise is nonsense.
Edit: Aw yes, I've already checked it and it's true... Well, that's bad news indeed. Let's give it more time, perhaps it improves as the weeks go.
Good to see YKW4 doing well. Makes me hopeful for the franchise's future.
20k for God eater 3 in the land of the sun is dreadful.
@Agramonte to be fair to God Eater, they didn’t release at the same time period. A lot of people already have the game and probably don’t want a second purchase at this point. CTRs online base is probably a better example. Honestly, it need to be a multiplat game released at the same time in Japan where the install base is the close for true comparisons.
@Anti-Matter Try building a computer in either of those other games. Or making your own game within the game, or just making huge automated farms.
On PC, there's mods and resources packs to make it look better and add more details. And mods adding even more automation, extra dimensions to explore, expanded movement options, an expanded height limit by saving the world as cubic chunks rathed than the 256-tall squares... and basically anything anyone's ever thought Minecraft was missing.
I don't see why the Switch version is so popular, though. It really works best with a keyboard and mouse.
@mousieone Yeah, that was my 2nd point on my post.
If a delay you loose the core fan base that is always looking for the next game of their favorite IP - they already played it. Same day release like Attack on Titan 2, is key.
Nine out of the ten top spots eh? But I thought the Switch had no games.... The few who do still think that are either trolls or are too picky for their own good.
@Anti-Matter I never got into minecraft but put in a a decent amount of time into dragon quest builders 2 so far its definitely more charming and I am heading to the third island I just wish there were more islands as I am having a lot of fun with it
@Agramonte FALCOM was also known for keeping their games exclusives to Japan so it's their own fault that they don't had a huge fanbase on Nintendo's platforms here in the states. Games like Popful Mail, Brandish 2, Dragon Slayer, Ys IV and V for Super NES and Romancia for NES all are great games but remain Japan exclusives with a majority of their IPs strictly limit to just PC Engine (a failed system nobody I knew own), PC, and Sony releases. Had they go all out with their IPs like Capcom, Namco, Konami, Squaresoft, Enix, Taito, Natsume, Sega, etc., then I would become a huge fan of them too but I didn't grew up knowing much about them cause most of their IPs I couldn't follow. You can play one game of theirs (like Wanderers from Ys) and the next game will never come out so what's the point of even playing it especially the Ys franchise where it just kept continuing.
@Anti-Matter At this point, we all know your opinion of Minecraft. Please refrain from commenting negatively about the game in unrelated articles. Thanks!
@Matthew010
Sorry.
I didn't mean to be negative. 😫
When i saw Minecraft still on Top 10 Japanese games, i was thinking where was Dragon Quest Builders 2 / Portal Knights ?
I just still never understand the appeal of Minecraft to some peoples from aesthetic aspect by my opinion.
It was completely confusing me. 😕
I mean why does people adore the cubic pixelate shapes rather than nice 3D rendering ?
By my logic, nice 3D rendering like Dragon Quest Builders 2 / Portal Knights have much better looking from aesthetic aspect. There was no cubic trees, no cubic peoples, no cubic animals, everything just look Perfect 3D Cartoonish shapes (except the terrain still cubic but with much better textures like The Sims).
From gameplay aspect, i found both Dragon Quest Builders 2 / Portal Knights offered more interesting gameplay features. I could shape my whole town quickly with Tools from DQB 2. I could beautify my character looking / NPC with some fancy clothing. With all efforts from SquareEnix to sugar coating DQB 2 to look very eye candy "Minecraft style" game, still failed to survive on Top 10 video games sales. How could it be ? All the efforts just failed by the cubic looking and pixelate textures ? Why ?
@retro_player_22 They have great modern games from Cold Steel to Y's that are more than worth becoming a fan today regardless of what they done in the past. Or what is only in Japan (that is nothing new for players in the West)
Also, Tons of Videogame Fans know they need to be pro-active. Capcom, PlatinumGames, FromSoftware, Atlus, Square Enix, Namco, Level5, Konami. You need multiple platforms to follow the best games out of Japan. You just jump to wherever they get release on.
@jockmahon Hey... they still got Halo.
