And watch sales drop off next week with today's announcement.
@Spoony_Tech Why would today's announcement cause them trouble?
@Kalmaro there might be some people holding off for this .
Good hold for YokaiWatch - the West can do the rest! 😃
AOT2, now that is what I mean... Give the Switch same day release so it can show publishers what it can do. With the LITE announcement. all around good day in Nintendo land 👍
Wish Final Fantasy XIV didn't have monthly fees... have like 3 expansions now behind. But just no time to justify paying monthly.
@rockodoodle That's a fair point.
@Kalmaro Because Japan is way more handheld focused and an all handheld unit at a cheaper cost will affect sales for a couple months.
Well. Let's prepare for a sales boost. With the new Fire Emblem game coming up there will be a massive boost in Japan alone.
@Spoony_Tech That's another decent point. I'm curious to see how this sales now.
Good to see Yo-kai Watch still doing good.
This maybe the biggest trouncing yet. 75k switches sold vs 11k for the rest of the market combined. The Big N’s advantage can’t get much bigger than that...can it??!!
@Agent721 Well, I don't remember the exact figures during the "Pokemon" and "Smash Bros. Ultimate" story but the weekly sales were massive in several weeks compared to the other companies.
@V_Gamer
For sure. I can’t recall the exact figures either but this week for sure is one giant Japanese market domination. From the depth of the Wii U debacle to this.
@Agent721 It sure is.
Yokai Watch Series looks pretty dead to me. Not any where close to YW1 and 2 numbers
@BFahey3
Big difference between declining and dead. Call of Duty is declining, but contrary to popular belief it's still one of the best selling games every year.
Yokai Watch popularity has definitely declined, but YW4 is still in the top 5% of best selling games in Japan.
@Agramonte
I'm both surprised and pleased to see Attack On Titan 2 sell more on Switch here. 3rd party games have been selling very well on Switch compared to past Nintendo consoles, and even compared to other platforms, but there are still pockets of regions and genres that haven't done as well. FPS will never do as well, for example. And Tecmo Koei games in Japan are another example (though apparently they said Atelier Switch sales are catching up with PS4, which is crazy to think about given the long history on the platform and long history of not being on Nintendo, and smaller install base).
It's nice finally seeing a TK Switch game that not only charts in Japan, but sells most. Even if it's still fairly low. Day and date, of course, plays a vital role.
check out my levels!!! Maker ID 8B7-CTF-NMG
Switch Lite numbers are going to be very high in Japan methinks...
@JaxonH I always feel these are the games the Switch has a chance with. The trailers didn't make it anything spectacular in the visual department. But felt like AOT, that is what people care about (not that it sold like hotcakes or anything)
The Naruto collection went on sale for $19 just in time for me to give it as a gift to my cousin who is a super fan and never played them. I got to run around a bit, and it looked great (only handheld) and it felt as cool being Naruto as when I played it ages ago.
The Switch is on equal footing on these types of Games. How cool is it to see a few Anime episode on CrunchyRoll and then jump to play AOT when you have 5 hrs to kill on a bus 😃
I also think, being out at the same time helps. Mindset, People who have both a PS4+Switch and will not wait or simply combined marketing. Just have Switch not start in a hole.
@JaxonH
YW4 sales are pretty awful. It will struggle to sell more than half of what YW3 sold, which itself sold less than half of what YW2 sold.
Call of Duty sales have definitely fallen, but not by 70%+ over the course of 5 years.
Wow that’s insane sales for the hardware!!!! 20 thousands higher than last weak that was twice the amount of two weeks ago
How come SMM2 pushed more hardware this week that last week?
@Tantani Because "everybody" wants to make their own Mario adventure. That's a pretty big deal for most Mario-fans.
Wow, great sales. And a strong line up from now moving forward.
For the PS Vita to beat not one but both Xbox One is a great achievement indeed (if it was outside Japan that is).
Switch hardware sales will probably drop off a cliff for the next 2 months because of the Switch Lite.
@Agent721 you do realize that the switch is competing against consoles that are effectively 7 years old, right?
And it's japan, where portable is king.
@westman98
They don’t have to fall the exact same percentage for a comparison to be drawn. Nobody is arguing over the percentage drop, only that despite it, YW remains one of the best selling games in the country.
It’s not surprising it dropped... because it lost popularity. When things lose popularity sales decrease. And it saw a massive boon so quickly, there was a lot of sales to lose once that happened. The good news is it’s still selling really well and most people buying the game now are the ones who are going to stick with it long term. We saw the ceiling, now we’re seeing the floor.
All this to say, the percentage it dropped is irrelevant. It is objectively false to call a game that is one of the top 5% of best selling games in the nation “dead”. It’s hyperbolic and just... wrong
The Vita and the Wii U, two stone-dead consoles, are still completely crushing the Xbox One's lifetime sales in Japan. The most powerful console in the world can barely scratch 100 units. Oh dear.
@westman98 It seems like they should have released YW4 in the launch window of the Switch Lite along with DQ11 and Link's Awakening. I imagine a lot of its fan base don't have a Switch since it appeals mostly to children, which is why the sales are so much lower. I guess it should see a boost around the holiday season, though.
@hihelloitsme
‘Effectively 7’ means ‘less than 6’ now does it?
@WiltonRoots
I’m impressed 29 people bought an S. I suppose it’s a 4K Blu-ray player, that might explain it. Otherwise I can’t see any reason. The XB1X is fantastic but the S is not portable, it’s left behind by base PS4, what’s the point? Fair play to MS for sticking with it in Japan.
@electrolite77 Well I can't knock them for trying - but it does make me wonder whether they should even bother releasing their next console over there.
@hihelloitsme Hi hello Cobalt!
Yeah, you have a point, but it's almost funny to see you whine and moan about Nintendo in every post you make.
I'm glad it's going well for Nintendo as well as the other console makers. It's good to have variety and options on the market.
@hihelloitsme
Yup and despite that lead, the Switch has already outsold it. What’s your point? I own a PS4 and a PSVR, this isn’t an anti Sony post but one cheering on Nintendo.
@electrolite77 I had effectively 5 bottles of beer at work this lunchtime. It was 3 but it’s effectively 5.
