Earthworm Jim is one of those series which really defines the 16-bit era. While it was a late release on the SNES and Genesis / Mega Drive, it really pushed the boundaries of those systems and built a solid fanbase which would endure over the years, despite some rather underwhelming sequels.
Now, a quarter of a century after the character first appeared, we're getting a 'proper' Earthworm Jim 3 – and the original team is involved. That means Doug TenNapel, David Perry, Tommy Tallarico, Nick Bruty, Mike Dietz, Tom Tanaka and Joey Kuras are all on-board – the last time these guys worked together was Earthworm Jim 2, from 1995.
It's all pretty exciting, right? Well, get ready for the catch: Earthworm Jim 3 will be an exclusive release for the upcoming Intellivision Amico. Set for launch on October 10th 2020, the Amico has the potential to shake up the home console war, but there are many within the industry that remain sceptical about its chances of carving out a significant portion of the market, especially when Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are so dominant.
Original Earthworm Jim composer Tallarico is now Intellivision Entertainment CEO/President, so that bit makes sense, at least. He's clearly trying his hardest to secure some tasty exclusives for the console, and Earthworm Jim 3 – while not a AAA game by modern standards – has enough fame with veteran gamers to make the Amico a little more interesting.
Tallarico said:
We have been talking about this moment for many years, it’s a dream come true to finally get the entire team back together. We’re looking forward to sharing a small part of our reunion and initial design meeting with fans from around the world. Intellivision Amico is designed to bring friends and families together and we are excited for fans and those just being introduced to the series to get a first look as we kick-off the design of the game.
A 20-minute live interactive simulcast streaming event will take place on Saturday, May 4th at noon Pacific, and will showcase the first design meeting with the original team. The team will "engage with fans to hear their new vision firsthand" apparently, and original art will be hand-drawn by the artists and signed by the entire team before being given away to lucky viewers. In addition to that, 50 new watercolour posters by Earthworm Jim creator Doug TenNapel will be signed and numbered by the original team, and then given away during the live stream.
What do you make of this news? Are you keen to play another Earthworm Jim adventure? Will you buy a whole new console to get it? Let us know with a comment

I know it's not a kickstarter but can we have a stretch goal to get Doug TenNapel off the team
No, I won't by a new console for just one game. It also depends on what other games are on the console though.
I part of me died inside reading about the release... Timed exclusive I'm preying.
Why aren't they making a trilogy for switch???
I'm pretty sure it would fly off the shelves
But can it play Knack 4 tho?
Why?
Also, isn’t Doug TenNapel an ass? I vaguely remember hearing things about him being a jerk.
@LunarFlame17 He fired a member of his team, for using the toilet 4 times in a day! So yeah not a nice bloke.
Let's see and wait. If the console fails it's just a matter of time until the game will be released for other consoles. Anyway, I would really by the classic games for Switch right away. Earthworm Jim was one of my first games on PC, so it definitely pushs some sentimental buttons...
It will be no different to the 'exclusives' that launched on the Ouya. Wait a year and they'll be on Steam, Xbox, PS etc.
Just watched the trailer for the console.
Dead on arrival.
EARTHWORM JIM: SPECIAL EDITION for Sega CD is literally my favorite video game of all time! Guess I am buying 2 new consoles in 2020.... (and 3 if the Switch pro/2 comes out).
@617Sqn Oh geez. I hadn’t heard about that incident. What a jackass.
At least it'll more than likely get ported to Switch when this console inevitably bombs.
Intellivision is one of those names I recognise from AVGN... which isn’t necessarily a good thing.
I believe this is going to be a hard pass for me.... If I buy another console my wife is going to kill me.
On a long enough timeline, the exclusive status for every game drops to zero."
The game sounds like a fun project; loved the games as a kid.
Too bad TenNapel is a notorious sociopath and a delusional, vindictive one at that. If you follow his FB and social media feed; he has some horrible things to say about people of colour and the LGBT communities.
Fella is a hack and a complete ass, through and through. Can’t stand the guy or his lunacy.
They really have faith in the Amico, huh? Yeah why develop for a record breaking console in sales like the Switch, when you can develop for a new console that will likely share the same fate as Ouya?
I mean...no ill will against them but when a new system releases it HAS to have a game so strong the character(s) basically become flagship mascots.
Earthworm jim is not that.
Also those Amico controllers, why would you want to play Earthworm Jim with an iPod?
Ouya Twoya is that you ya?
@LunarFlame17 I had the great misfortune of meeting him a few years ago at a convention I was working at. He was very snobby and made rude comments to various fans under his breath after they left his table. Guy is clearly a miserable creep and an enormous ego... no one I know can really stand working with him at all.
I hadnt even heard of the amico until now. it looks interesting but agree that it probably wont launch or will not be successful.
I'll wait for the console to flop and the team to scramble to port it to whatever else they can to recoop costs, then I'll think about getting it. Still sore about the submarine levels in the old games...
I know that I'm probably going to sound like a jerk by saying what I'm about to say, but these "little" guys need to seriously back out. One of the things that I like about modern gaming is that, unlike what transpired in the early 1990's, the market isn't inundated with hardware! What, exactly, do they hope to accomplish?
I mean, does the modern gaming market really need FIVE or more consoles? Xbox, Playstation, Switch, Atari VCS, and now Intellivision?
As much as i loved Earthworm Jim, and it's sequel, there is absolutely no way I'm buying a console like this. Sorry, but Sony and Nintendo together give me everything that I need.
i like the old Earthworm Jim games but they aint worth buying a whole new console for especially an Intellivision console
now if SEGA released a new system, MAYBE i would buy that because SEGA has a large selection of IP's to draw from
Intellavision is still around...wow! You learn something new every day.
I buy Nintendo consoles for maybe three games, so why not?
I don’t find this groovy at all.
These guys clearly have a higher opinion of Earthworm Jim than I do.
Erm, no. Sorry Jim.
@Daloblast I will absolutely not buy a whole console for just Earthworm Jim...... .... Except ... I probably would =P Original game was one of my all time favourites.
Sorry all you negative Nancy but I would give this system a chance, I know Earthworm Jim 3 isn't going to be worth buying a system for but it does seem to have some very nice exclusives now. If Vectorman 3 and Ristar 2 ever got made for this system that would be great too or maybe even Streets of Rage 4. I know I probably need to shut up now but SoR4 hadn't been confirm for any console yet, bettter hope the Amico didn't snatch it first.
@gcunit The first game was genuinely brilliant .. not so much the sequels though. Surprised by the negative comments.
@gcunit, I completely agree with you.
In no way do I see Earthworm Jim as a system seller ., while I can admit that both titles from back in the day where fun they also lacked in a few areas the main one for me was the loose play control something any great platformer simply needs is tight play control and response to input.
Wow, the controllers for this console suck hairy balls. I won`t buy it even if there are more good games for it.
So it looks like I will either never play this game or I will wait and play it on an emulator. Hope they wisen up and decide to only make it a timed exclusive for their underwhelming console, so they can atleast make money from it
If it gets good reviews then I'll pick it up for Switch six months after the Intellivison ceases production. So that should mean no more than a one year wait for this.
I enjoyed the first two Earthworm Jim games when they came out...but I really don’t want to support transphobic Doug TenNapel. So I can’t really see myself caring about any EWJ projects really.
i for one liked the sound of the new intellivision. It sounds more in line with Nintendo's philosophy and I'm actually looking forward to hearing more.
@TheRobot Yikes.
I should really like this news. The original games were my absolute favourites back in the day. That Christmas morning I’ll never forget.
But this seems like a really strange... why?
I’ll be following this.
@ummyeahnintendo I don't think it will ever get an emulator, all games on the Amico are digital download only just like the Ouya. Your best hope is wait until the exclusive run is over or just buy the console for that one game.
Booo.... EWJ is day one on any mainstream system for me. I'm not buying that thing to play it though.
I have unreasonable affection for Earthworm Jim 3D. I beat it multiple times.
A new Earthworm Jim is what I’ve been wanting for a long time now. Not too high on this new console at the moment. Need to see more games for it.
those disc controllers look horrible, if it came with a normal joypad it would look better.
Exclusive. bwah ha ha
Like this month's big Switch game - Resident Evil 4 - on pretty much every console made since 2000 - was a Gamecube exclusive.
https://kotaku.com/remembering-capcoms-great-nintendo-promise-betrayal-5806800
i get the feeling this is gonna end up meeting the same fate as those 3 digimon wonderswan games which would of done a hell of a lot better had they had a gameboy port.
Ouya part 2... any exclusives it gets will be in the eShop within a year.
Of course I'm going to buy this console, but I'll likely never play Earthworm Jim. I just want all the old Intellivision games.
EarthWorm Jim was alright game but not a system seller
I'll wait on the port.
Mind your language - Octane
So, you know how game developers like to make money? If so, then it's a safe bet that this console exclusivity won't last long.
@rjejr Resident Evil Zero, the Resident Evil 1 remake, Killer7, Gotcha Force, and Mega Man Network Mission are still GameCubes exclusives at the time though. Both the Resident Evil games stopped being exclusives when they got Wii ports and Killer7 became multiplat when the HD systems launch. Right now only Gotcha Force and Mega Man Network Transmission stay as GCN exclusives.
AMAZIN!
hype is high!
EWJ is one of my favorite games series of all time, right next to DKC. I welcome this news.
What I don't welcome is the egotistical megalomaniac-in-waiting Doug trying to come back as EWJ is his character. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
He created him, sure. And I can agree that Doug has some favorable art styles. However, what he created belongs to gamers now.
I enjoyed the Earthworm Jim cartoon show, but I was never any good at the game. I was more a fan of Neverhood/Skullmonkeys than I was EWJ, but that might just be because I was a bit older by then and had better hand-eye coordination. I remember being interested in Armikrog(?) for the Wii U, but didn't hear much about it after it released.
In regards to Doug TenNapel, after glancing through a few articles, awful personal views aside, it sounds like he's not much fun to work with. While it can be more difficult with actors and musicians to separate the art from the artist since they are the product, I have no issues with that in videogames.
A new Horizon Zero Dawn or God Of War will make me buy a new console in 2020 (and probably a 4K TV)
A New Earthworm Jim? not even worth buying on a console I already own - unless it is $15.
Why just this system? You’d probably make a lot more moola if it was on the Switch. Hell, I’d take it being on mobile over this.
@nessisonett Maybe this one won't have telephone buttons as a controller
@retro_player_22 That's my point, almost nothing stays exclusive. Most of those games went mutilplat. Sure, every system has it's exclusives, but just b/c a company says it is doesn't mean it will stay that way. I'd wait a few years before buying a new console just for an exclusive. Especially if that exclusive is Scalebound for Xbox 1.
How many Wii U games were made for the dual screen Gamepad that still wound up being ported? ZombiU and Lego City Undercover were 2 of the best games on Wii U to make use of the Gamepad screen.
I loved the first Earthworm Jim.
However, they say the console will launch with 20 exclusive games and Earthworm Jim is only one of them. Also in the trailer they say all games released for the console will be exclusives!
I need to wait and see before making an opinion on this new console.
Too bad I won't ever play it, then... (except I will, because I'm sure it'll get ported down the line)
This sounds awesome!! Woohoo!!!
remembers playing the originals
... yeah.. never mind.
@rjejr Only five exclusive games I love on Wii U are Xenoblade Chronicles X, Paper Mario: Color Splash, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Sonic: Lost World, and Fatal Frame 5. I would throw away my Wii U for good if all of those got Switch ports though.
@deusX Toejam and Earl was also one of those games but I doubt that's the one we recently got. Back in the Groove is awesome, I don't think the Amico version would be a port of that.
While $150/180 is half of what current consoles cost new I think it's a mistake to launch at this price. It's just outside of impulse purchase price and it's got a niche market. It's essentially a console for 40-year old dudes who yearn for the days of yore. It may be fun enough to garner attention but it's a risky market considering the people it's targeted at don't have a lot of time and $150 is much different from $100 in terms of "oops, I had 4 beers and pre-ordered the new intellivision."
EWJ in Smash please! I've been asking for years!
So I guess the 3rd in the series will not jump to the modern age and enter the world of 3D platforming - were they need to actually learn new skills.
They are going to stay firmly in the past by the look of it. Thanks, but I've already got about a million good 2D platformers now. Devs need to move on now.
Well the console looks atrocious so there is no way I am buying that and everything I have read about this TenNapel guy has been deplorable. I think it's safe to say that I won't be buying this.
I'll buy it as a bundle.. £14.99 sounds about right for the game + dead console.
I really hope this is just a timed exclusive. I love Earthworm Jim but I can't stomach spending a lot of money on the Ouya's sequel just for a chance to play a new game in the series.
Ill go for it. Ive never played Earthworm Jim, but I am always down to grab some new, weird console. I probably have an open space for it to occupy somewhere
I was planning to buy the amico regardless, so it's yet another new game for me to play and i'll gladly do so. Didn't think i would ever get to play a brand new game in this series.
@LunarFlame17 yeah... he’s a horrible human being...
@retro_player_22 I won't throw away my Wii U b/c I have Zelda BotW, SSB4, MK8 and a bunch of other great games on it. Why rebuy games I already own?
I was all excited to see that a New Earthworm Jim was announced, but how foolish to bring it onto one new console instead of offering to make it multiplat.
Sorry, I just bought a Switch this year and I have my sights set on the Sega Genesis plug n play. Can't afford this and Intellivision isn't a system I grew up with or have an interest in.
Still, I wish them the best and I hope that EWJ makes a glorious and profitable return and that it delights fans.
@Bunkerneath Heck yeah it would!
I don't remember the original EWJ games being that good (though playable), so this is probably no loss.
If the Intellivision Amico fails all the games will likely get ports and Switch will be a good place for them.
I kinda like the Amico, though. At the right price, with interesting throwback games, it could snare me. Not near enough info to make a decision right now, though.
@Jazzem Doug TenNapel has incurable skin cancer so why kick him of a team he loves so much? And only when he has so much time? Because of his political opinions and views? That's a bit pity fella.
@Desrever the original team (if this is that) for the neverhood and earthworm Jim, etc, were all really good friends in real life.
@evilnatt Are...are you Doug TenNapel?
@TheRobot well when your told you have only a few years left to live emotions tend to overwhelm you. Say hello to human nature.
@LunarFlame17 no I'm someone who doesn't agree with his views at all but loves earthworm jim. It's just that I don't like seeing pity people whine all the time about someone else's personal views especially when that person only has a few years left.
@evilnatt - Just like any creator, what he creates belong to the company he created it for. He created it, but he doesn't own it, so when he went far away from the industry Earthworm Jim essentially stayed cause, well, he didn't own it.
And his views aren't what bothers me, his actions been always been outright garbage. He was toxic to work with back then and I cannot see giving him the helm of an old truck he gave up to be a wise idea.
He can hate liberals til the cows come home, I won't judge him on his Twitter activity voicing whatever. But his presence may hold Jim back.
@Paraka again, the team if this is the "original team" were all extremely great friends in real life who all once ran a company together I believe.
@Paraka and earthworm Jim did stayed. But it was what seemed like limbo with interplay owning it. Now it looks like a other company must own it. Cause remember. Ewj is coming to the Genesis mini
@Paraka and if you really want to talk about toxicity you got gcunit still commenting on nintendo life posts. There was someone who was so sick he was bed ridden from it and only had a couple of days to lives and the last thing he wanted to do was to play smash bros. Then you got gcunit telling people "why in god's name should he get to play smash Bros first? Life is a serious illness, maybe I should brag to sakurai if I could play the game before anyone else"
I enjoyed the HD version of Earthworm Jim on PS3. However, haven't been able to play Earthworm Jim 2 and can't play it now the Wii Virtual Console has been shut down.
Am sure the third game will end up on Switch further down the line but we don't even know if it's any good yet.
@Paraka so again, tell me about toxicity. You got someone who was a ass to work with. And you got someone whining about not being able to play a game before someone on their deathbed.
@evilnatt - False equivalence and they are everywhere.
None of the Smash talk has anything to do with Dougy and his own illnesses. Yeah, illnesses are a drag. But that doesn't make me look lighthearted on the potential outcome of a game who has a track record of not being well to work with, been out of the industry for much the extended period of time, and may have the same aged mentality as Miyamoto on what Mario should be, just with EWJ. Couple that with his inevitability due to said illness, his death can crash this whole project as well.
I stated I am stoked for all this news except him, he can easily be the proverbial wrench in what could be a series revitalization of one of my most beloved franchises.
So get off your high horse, and for the love of the binary gods, learn to use the Edit button!
Interesting tactic to get attention on this system and help in its marketing. I wasn't expecting them to try to get an old franchise as an exclusive. Good luck to them. I've never been particularly fond of Earthworm Jim so it doesn't make me more likely to buy a system.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
@Paraka well that's ironic. Isn't it? Also Doug isn't being payed a dime for this project. Infact the team invited him and gived him credit. He was supposed to have nothing to do with it in the first place. But now he's there to just help out and hang out with old friends. What do you think about that pal?
@evilnatt - What exactly is ironic about what I said?
And my response remains the same. Paid or otherwise. As you see, I mentioned nothing about finances curbing its potential.
I'm gonna take a wait and see approach on Amico just like I am on VCS. Stopping short on the one hand of just completely writing them off (very very short on the VCS side), while also stopping short of getting too enthused on the other hand, and definitely stopping well we'll short of offering any pre-release financial support a la Atari's kickstarter.
Also, while I certainly like EWJ to this day, and definitely did back in the day (as a matter of fact, I was just working on a music block for the podcast the other day involving some EWJ2 music), I would stop just shy of calling it an "indispensable title". So, if the Amico sells me, then I will buy it. And should I buy the Amico, well, then I'll absolutely buy EWJ. But I won't buy an Amico if I'm not sold on it just for EWJ, no.
Of course, this may be a little bit moot. If Amico is a flop, and none of us buy it, I can't imagine EWJ will go to its grave as an exclusive. I mean, I could envision a possible scenario of it never ever leaving exclusivity if Amico is a big success (though more than likely even in the success scenario it'll just be a "timed exclusive" and mass release a few years later) but I just can't see it "going down with the ship" if Amico fails when EWJ could sell a crap ton of copies on PS4/XB1/Switch and PC.
So while I definitely kinda hope Amico is worth it (and I guess I could say the same about VCS despite being very skeptical), my point is that if we're willing to just wait a few extra years, especially if the Amico bombs, it'll probably find its way elsewhere. Very very unlikely indeed is the scenario where it is just once forever for always an exclusive behind the INTV wall. We've waited 25 years for EWJ3, what's a few more years, eh?
Cheers!
It happened exactly what I expected, we don't know almost anything about the game, people are already wanting to boycott it because of Doug TenNapel is involved, sure, he is a jerk and a snob, but he is talented.
People started boycotting Captain Marvel because Brie Larson is a feminist and said stuff on Twitter some people didn't like, and when the movie became a hit and got over $1 billion, people started mocking them, but in the end, the only thing those right-wing people did against Captain Marvel, is what you left-wing people do everyday against everything you don't like, guess that "criticize the art, not the artist" is only when you like the artist.
@Agramonte Well, for what it's worth the console won't sell games for more than 8 dollars, according to it's promo trailer.
This seems really poor judgement making it for a new console only. They have to know that? A console that is specially for retro type remakes et all? Pretty sure that the indy releases for the current crop of consoles has that fairly well covered?
@rjejr "ZombiU and Lego City Undercover were 2 of the best games on Wii U to make use of the Gamepad screen."
Ah... so THAT must be why I bought these games for the Wii U, instead of for another system...
As for the on-topic part: I see a lot of people either calling this dead on arrival, or comparing it to the Ouya, but that was an outdated Android console, and it didn't even have 1 percent of the names behind it that this new retro console has.
If you take a look at the older article linked to in this article, then you see a couple of them already mentioned in the article itself, and if you watch the introduction video, then there's quite a few more. All big name veterans, so at the very least, this system has quite an epic team of people behind it.
And personally, I would love to see modern renditions of all these classic games, so why not? I'll reserve judgment until we get to know more, or I'll start laughing if it does indeed fail before it even arrives...
Not that fond of Earth Worm Jim though, so I wouldn't buy any console just for that game, but as a whole, this might actually be an interesting device for retro gamers and enthusiasts alike.
Well that went from a good idea to a dumb idea real quick.
I would get it on switch, hopefully sometimes later it will be ported
@Jayofmaya that is interesting to know
I think they can get twice that on Switch easy. Maybe someday it will jump over.
If Doug Tenapel's attached? Definitely not
Why?
@Jazzem
“I know it's not a kickstarter but can we have a stretch goal to get Doug TenNapel off the team”
Douche TanNipple
@Jazzem May I ask why?
I think I am in. The console looks really interesting.
All the bugmen in the comments REEEEEING about Doug TenNapel. LMAO
@BornInNorway81 Doug TenNapel is an a**h***, he is a fanatic conservative christian that said mean things on the internet, I heard that even ignoring politics, he is very smug.
However, he is a very talented artist, separate the art from the artist, this game needs one, the original creator should come back even though he is a terrible person.
@victordamazio Think about the people who would announce a "boycott" on a piece of disposable entertainment they may like, just because they disagree with the views of someone involved, as if it carries some kind of transcendent importance in their lives; those are weak people.
And for the record, "Right-wing people", or at least not real Right-wingers/Third Position Fascists/pro-White advocates like myself, did not give a crap about "Captain Marvel"; I noticed all the whining came from the civcuck/"Liberalist"/"Skeptic" sphere, all of whom are completely useless and just the other side of the coin to these bugmen.
Seems like a really bad business decision.
Well... they can flatline with the 3rd game if you are forced to get a whole new console just for that game... the current systems should be enough.
I'll wait for it to get ported to other systems.
My new game console money will be going to the Occulus Quest this year.
All this complaining about Doug TenNapel is, quite honestly, ridiculous. If I boycotted everything that was partially produced by someone with different political and/or religious views than me, I'd have to boycott almost everything on the planet! If you're boycotting because of how you think he treats his employees (I don't know much about it myself), I might be more understanding, but I still think that dismissing this game as a whole extremely unfair.
@ThanosReXXX "on-topic"
Off topic, finally watched episode 3+4 of Passage. It'd been so long since I saw 1+2 I'd completely forgotten about it until I saw it again on my Hulu list. Had I known it was only 10 episodes I'd have finished it a month ago. But I'm only up to 4, so don't spoil it for me, I'll finish next week, going away for the weekend.
Never even heard of Amico or whatever. Didn't like EWJ either, it was pretty much unplayable as I recall.
Now if it was a new Pikmin game, yea, I bought the WiiU cause of that. Very underrated series there.
@AlienigenX There are rare exceptions, though, and not just for shovelware like E.T. on the Atari 2600. For example, where's my port/remaster/remake/re-release of "TMNT 3: The Manhatten Project" from the NES?
If this new console sells like expected (as in somewhere between the Vita and the Virtual Boy), then it will probably be eventually ported elsewhere, anyway.
I'll totally be down for a new 2d console with all exclusive games, so long as the games are any good. They said there would be 20 games at launch, so, even if that's it, it's still about on par with the Virtual Boy and I had a blast with that. If they make a really good Earthworm Jim game, and the rest of the library isn't crap, they might be able to pull this off.
I really enjoyed the style, humor, music, and charcters of the first 2 Earthworm Jim games, and still am fond of the creativity of the whole universe they made, but man, I really didn't enjoy those games very much. I wanted to, but just never could really get into them, mainly cause of difficulty and the weird gimmicks.
@mazzel I don’t know, as soon as I looked at the article the huge Ouya fail came into my mind.
At least from the console presentation video it looks like big, and most important, competent names are involved, and the price is affordable, but I wouldn’t certainly buy it just because I’d love to play with Earthworm Jim 3... And even if the whole gaming universe is toward digital delivery, the fact that I won’t have any game disc or cartridge or minidisc or UMD or whatever is a letdown for me...
Still, the price is ok, so in case the console sells well and decent games come out for it I could think about getting one. Will see, I’m actually curious.
If this game ever actually comes out, I'll eat my hat
I'm betting they won't be getting Dan Castellaneta to do the voice of Jim this time around.
Doug is a dillweed. In other news the sky is blue and Earthworm Jim 3 is on pace to sell less than 100 copies.
Meh, the game will show up on other systems one way or another. Just a matter of time.
Can easily wait another 10 years and then play it on an emulator if needs be.
What an astoundingly poor decision.
This console looks promising, the selling points are great... But, really, the graphics of all the games should at least be brought up to the standards of NES or even SNES. Will wait and see.
This is a crying shame, but at the very least I hope the game turns out to be awesome. Earthworm Jim deserves more games!
It depends by the price, but why not...
Don't worry, it'll soon get ported when there's not enough sales.
But Tommy Talarico owns Intellevision, that's the reason it's exclusive ATM.
I replayed the Xbox live re-release in the past 24 months and boy has the original aged badly. Great graphics for the day but the gameplay is incredibly rough by today’s standard. Also completed the entire thing in 2 or 3 hours. It seemed so much longer when I was young.
@Judas_Krimson Yeah true regarding the success of new consoles.
I just don´t see the place for a new one in the market, as long as the big three are perfoming so well. Maybe as a niche product, but not as a big competitor. So yeah, I still think, that good exclusives for this new console will find their way to other platforms sooner or later
I´m totally with you regarding this whole "digital only" thing. Yes, the future might be digital only, but the companies need to re-think the current strategy. If digital-only really means, after a certain amount of years, my purchase is gone (e.g. shut down the e-shop for current generation consoles) then sooner or later the customers will raise their voices. If they find a way to let you keep your purchases, and I´m not talking about saving them on SD-carts, then the future can be digital.
But as of today, I´m analog with games if possible, mainly because of the price. Retailers have competition. If it´s digital only, the show owner (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo) is basically monopolist and can dictate the prices the way they want. Not ncie for consumers...
Everyone being ultra optimistic about thus console us confusing me. Games exclusively priced between $4-8 and you think we're getting anything beyond mobile level here? Maybe upgrade that to a Sega Ages release, depending on the love going in. But you cant do AAA at an $8 price point, the resources just aren't there. Honestly, that, EVERY game being rated E, and every game being exclusive pegs this as a niche machine at best. If its cheap, I'd consider getting it for my kid. But I'm not exactly giddy with anticipation here.
@rjejr Not to worry. I'm not one to give away too many spoilers, regardless of how short or long a series is. I hate that myself as well, so I'd never give away any essential, viewing pleasure destroying info to anyone else, unless I had a bone to pick with them...
But it's that time of the year again, so according to the calendar, I'm now once again a little wiser, but it feels the exact same way as yesterday. Oh, well... on to another wonderful year on my (hopefully) slow way towards oblivion...
Reading the title, I thought it would be a kickstarter thing. Oh boy was I wrong. I can see it now. This game is gonna bomb pretty badly, and it'll eventually get ported elsewhere.
I am looking forward to having this new Intellivision and Atari VCS to supplement my Nintendo Switch gaming in 2020.
Intellivision? I'm getting whiffs of the AtraiBox here... And we all know what sort of scam that turned out to be.
When Amico fails it will come to all devices as a download soon enough. You know it will happen!
@ThanosReXXX OK, I'll bite, what time of year is it? Your birthday, drinking yourself to oblivion? Sorry, whenever I see "oblivion" my mind always adds the "drinking myself to" part.
Yep, Taurus, must be, happy birthday.
@rjejr Yep, it's the b-day. Well done, detective Pikachu...
EDIT:
And thanks.
P.S.
How the heck did you remember my star sign?
Did I mention it that often?
It gets funnier when you add my Chinese star sign, though: born in the year of the dog, so I'm actually a bulldog...
@ThanosReXXX Thanos rhymes w/ Taurus. Just trust me, it does.
"so I'm actually a bulldog..."
Even better.
Only thing better than a bulldog is a hound dog, b/c, ya know, ain't nothing like a hound dog. (artistic license)
Detective Pikachu >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sonic movie
@rjejr That last line could be like kicking in a GIANT open door.
Then again: I haven't seen either of the two movies yet, and perhaps, like some say, the Sonic movie may be so bad that it becomes good again. Might even gain cult status at some point.
Amongst the furry community...
@Petraplexity I'm English, and this is a site based in England.

@ThanosReXXX "Amongst the furry community..."
I may be one of them, but I'm not one of them.
Where's Amy?
@Damo If you thought after 10 years of running NL you'd stop having 'Murican's attempting to correct the Queen's English I'm betting 10 years from now you'll still be getting these same comments. 😂
@rjejr The struggle is real
The only company I would buy a new console from is SEGA
@rjejr You either are, or you aren't. Can't be both, my friend.
And where's Amy? How about Knuckles? And Tails?
Right now, the world is more busy with mourning the world's tallest furry, Chewbacca, aka Peter Mayhew, and rightfully so...
Actually, I'm really excited for the Intellivision Amico (not so much for Earthworm Jim though). I think the kind of games on the original intellivision with a bit more polish would be excellent for my younger kids to play ...and I'd want to play them too
@Jazzem No.
To the third Q: No, no I won’t.
The article confuses me, this is just a playstation or nes mini no chance its even competing in the console wars. Why all the insinuation and hype over this?
@Bunkerneath I completely agree. How do you have such a extraordinary and faithful fan base but not produce anything or be heard from in 10+ years. So many things you could do with a new Earthworm Jim game including an online multiplayer version. Sheesh, make it to where it's an open source type thing where you run around from world to world but can meet up and team up with someone or just see others playing during your game... It's blasphemy and ignorant af... Not going to create or produce a game unless you buy another console.... Lmao who died and made you boss or more-so a complete idiot... Do you not like making money from sitting behind a desk and programming the sh*t out of a great software??? Hold your breath on that one because I wouldn't buy it... Hold your breath again because I may just rewrite my own knock off and call it Earthworm Jake for that matter. Just my two cents!
"Earthworm Jim 3 will be an exclusive release for the upcoming Intellivision Amico. Set for launch on October 10th 2020 "
I'm pretty certain Tallarico is regretting that choice...
