Just days before the release of Katana Zero last month, the game was refused classification in Australia and New Zealand. It meant Switch owners down under and across the ditch were unable to purchase Devolver Digital's latest indie release from the local eShop.
Fortunately, the game's ban has now been overturned by the Classification Board. It's received an R18+ rating and is expected to arrive in this region towards the end of the month.
This is sure to lead to even more sales for the already successful title. As you may recall, the game has been recognised as Devolver Digital's most pre-ordered Switch game ever, surpassing the likes of The Messenger and Minit. The game also shifted more than 100,000 copies in its first week.
Have you tried out Katana Zero on the Switch yet? Tell us below.

I don't live in Australia...I mean, I SHOULD, but I don't. I also don't play R18+ games. Why am I commenting even?
Have a good time Aussie's! See you in the Outback!
Glad this got released eventually. There aren't much great fast cyberpunk games that are heavily focused on combat like RUINER (https://rawg.io/games/ruiner) for example.
I just grabbed it from the US eShop instead of waiting thanks to the Switch being region free. Glad it's finally releasing here though, it's a great game so the more people that play it the better.
Still no Ape Out here in NZ. Still no idea why either.
It must be for the drug references, but even then the drugs being used in game are fictional.
I think it’s a great game that is deserving of it’s success. Wouldn’t mind some post-game challenge rooms to up the replay value, but it was a lot of fun while it lasted.
@mrmememan oh no you didn’t 😂.
Great, now how about Hard West in Oz?
I still plan on getting this...I'll probably use the coins I get from Resident Evil Zero and REmake, along with Castlevania Collection and Mario Maker 2.
The best part of having an insane backlog of games is knowing that when I get towards the bottom of my list I have gems like this waiting for me (hopefully on sale at some point)!
I’m from NZ and live in Australia ... and I find a classification board originally banning (or not rating) a game utterly preposterous
Does anyone know if it’s been cut anywhere in game at all?
@NotTelevision oh yes I did 😎
Still waiting on this and Hard West.
Guess this means no Phantom Doctrine tomorrow.
I know I can create other region accounts, but I shouldn't have to.
Screw the classification board.
