When it comes to more serious racing games on the Switch, it's admittedly slim pickings. GRID Autosport - the ninth entry in Codemasters' long-running TOCA series - hopes to improve the situation for automotive fans who own Nintendo's hybrid device. The latest version of this racing simulator, originally released on multiple other platforms in 2014, will include all of the existing DLC, 100 cars, 100 circuits, tilt controls, along with online and local multiplayer.
If this wasn't already enough to satisfy your need for speed, the game might also be receiving a physical release on Nintendo's hybrid device. GameMania - a video game retailer located in the Netherlands - has a pre-order up for a physical version of GRID Autosport on the Switch and a placeholder box art (see below). Codemasters hasn't officially announced a retail release, so with any luck, this is a sign it has been given the green light.
If this game does receive a retail release, will you be racing down to your local store to pick it up? Sound off in the comments.

I assumed it would get a physical release. Not sure why it wouldn’t?
I’m also still waiting for WRC on switch... both of these games have my eyes peeled like tires. Wait it doesn’t work that way, does it...
i should be in stores
I guess I never considered it wouldn't be retail.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be a good port! Steady framerate, NO pop-in...just for once lets have a great racing game on Switch.
Goddamnit.
@Baart Here Here!
Are we really to the point when a console game getting a physical is considered news worthy?
Couldn't care less about retail, I buy most of my stuff from the Nintendo eShop. I do care about this hybrid console getting half decent race games. Bonus it's not 8-bit.
Yes please. I tried Gear Club 2 and that game *ucks. Hope this will be good.
@Schizor88 Gear Club 2 is actually a lot better now after it's latest patch, but this is a more serious racing game.
Aah. Well, I sold my copy and I'm not going back. 😏
Interested in a physical copy hope this reviews well need a serious racing fix on switch
Good grief that looks polished! Hopefully we won't be chasing shadows around the tracks.
So.... This will be an actual cartridge? Or just a retail box with a code inside?
Still playing and loving V Rally 4 so that'll keep me going until this releases.
I will 100% buy a physical copy if they make one.
Like others I assumed it was getting a retail release. I hope it does, and if it's any good I might pick it up....
Well hoping not to pay more than $20 for this. So physical opens up Ebay and Amazon Warehouse as a possibility down the line.
Nice. I’m probably going to get this and it’ll keep me going until MS/Nintendo’s relationship is serious enough for us to get Forza! Lol
@Mountain_Man sadly yes, since some Switch games either get releases from super limited never-print-ever-again publishers, which makes future or long term availability a no-go.
Cool
Not that that makes a difference in my purchasing decisions.
@Baart Horizon Chase Turbo is a BRILLIANT FANTASTIC racing game on Switch.
Price it at sub-£30 and I'll Day One it.
Digital games only, apart from the SEGA Ages series, don’t exist for me.
@Lionyone dude thanks. I will check that one out, I always thought it was a small budget title.
I may get this. I already have it on my iPhone but I never play it. Controls always suck on a phone plus I feel like it’s too graphics intensive for even my iPhone X. The phone will get really hot and then the game will crash mid race.
The physics are pretty damn good and it is much more of a sim then an arcade which I love.
Codemasters isn't a big Nintendo supporter, so I assume that's why so many figured this arcade racer would be a mere digital release.
I just hope it runs at 60 fps or at least has the choice for a performance mode that is 60 fps with reduced resolution. After getting to play games like Gran Tourismo 3, 4, 5, and 6 that all run at 60 fps on hardware supposedly weaker than Switch, I think we deserve a nice racing game that runs smoothly. I also hope there is a cartridge with the whole game on it inside the physical box if they decide to sell a "physical release" of this game.
@Schizor88 Gear club 2 is a great game now! the latest update improve the graphics & load times. Game is really fun. online works now also
I gotta admit, that box art looks pretty slick. I might be interested in this one.
@Baart I am with you on that one!
I love racing games like Forza and the two Need for Speed Shift titles so I'll be picking it up physically when it gets a bit cheaper. I originally didn't even consider it being a digital-only title.
Hopefully the WiiU Need For Speed Most Wanted gets ported to Switch in the future...
The problem with any racing games on the switch is the lack of analog triggers for precise control of throttle and brake.
@60frames-please
Online multiplayer games are basically never complete on cart, am I wrong?
@merlot
Unless GameCube controller is supported, I know it is ridiculous, but e.g. with Trials Rising it is a solution
I really want Hellblade but am holding out hope for a physical release. I will consider a physical Grid if the port is decent and the price is right.
@merlot This is no sim. It's a simcade at best and not a very even one at that with the game leaning heavily towards the arcade side of the spectrum rather than the simulation side. Digital throttle/braking controls are a non-issue here.
I REALLY cant wait for this to come out. I really wish they put out a release date. Just give me SOMETHING!
Looking good!!! I buy all my big games physical. This might just be one of those games.
@Baart I second that. I never played the original so in the switch would be brilliant. Please let it be good.
@Lionyone Yes, I am about 2 hours into Horizon Chase Turbo and I love it! I am also happy with Fast RMX and Gear Club 1.
I understand that there is not a realistic racer, but with all the other games I play, it is good to have a simple racer that I don't have to think about too much--plop in and play.
I am hoping that Grid is the realistic racer we are all waiting for.
Looking forward to this - Switch needs serious racing games
@Baart If it isn't then it's an absolute joke seeing as this was a PS3 title.
@barneygumble Literally one of the ebst racers ever made, i still play it on wiiu regularly. Nothing more fun that just taking a virtual drive and hearing that exhaust pop as you go through the tunnels
These days Switch port can go either way: ARK or Hellblade. Trailer can never be trusted, preordering is for fools, better wait for the reviews.
@nintendolie "preordering is for fools"
Absolute truth my nigra.
That game will still run and look mediocre on switch. just look at v-rally 4.... it's just atrocious.
@Baart Yes, and with analogue support on GameCube controllers.
@judaspete analogue support complaining is the new 'where's my achievements Nintendo'.
Whatever.
@Baart Usually I wouldn't care, but for this type of racing game it has a pretty big impact on gameplay.
@judaspete ok, but I'm sure it'll work well without, like every racing game has before analogue.
But if you have experienced with you'll need to adjust quite a bit, so that's unfortunate for you.
@atariboy Just because it's not a full blown sim doesn't mean analog gas and brakes are not desired. One of the best arcade racers was Project Gotham Racing which made use of analog.
IMO, I find the on/off nature of digital controls for racing games off putting regardless of being a Sim or not.
@dugan There's also Isle of Man TT coming to Switch for realistic racing. That could be brilliant.
@dugan I hope that this is good also
@Lionyone I had forgotten about that! Thanks, another one to look forward to!
