Tiny Metal really hit the spot for Advance Wars veterans, offering hours of turn-based tactical gameplay and some excellent presentation. Developer Area 35 has now revealed a sequel in the form of Tiny Metal: Full Metal Rumble, which offers more content, maps and units than the original, as well as multiplayer action from day one.
77 skirmish maps will make the cut, 21 of which can be played with another person. 23 unit types are on offer – including mechs and new Hero and Commander units – and you'll be able to experience a whole new story across 39 campaign missions.
The plot follows Commander Wolfram, leader of the White Fangs, as she searches for her brother and tries to prevent a lethal technology from falling into the wrong hands. Four new difficulty modes are available, allowing you to tailor the challenge to your liking.
Producer Hiroaki Yura had this to say:
Our all-star team of developers have expanded on the features of the first game and crafted a compelling new narrative to make for an even more thrilling tactical experience. We will test the strategic mettle of Switch with an adventure that evokes Nintendo classics like Advance Wars while pushing the genre forward.
Tiny Metal: Full Metal Rumble launches on Nintendo Switch this Spring, and will have full English-language text support as well as English voice-overs.

Is this a whole separate new game or DLC?
I hope it has even longer load times. 😭
I'm too busy playing Wargroove and Valkyria Chronicles to care about this game now.
@retro_player_22 Wargroove is not a replacement for Advance Wars, sorry
@pilotmkn He never said it was?
I really enjoyed the first game. Will be looking forward to this.
Should have said sequel instead of upgrade...
How’s the game after all those months? Did it get better? The initial reception wasn’t exactly positive...
@pilotmkn No one is replacing anything. Wargroove is more like a spiritual successor since AW looks like is never coming back.
Fool me once...won't get fooled again.
@retro_player_22 Into the Breach?
Wasn't this the game that took funds from Project Phoenix?
@TechaNinja Yea I really don't understand this it should be given out for free if you bought the original. These guys are a little scummy
Definitely on my radar. I enjoyed the first one well enough.
@pilotmkn I thought Tiny Metal was much closer in gameplay style to AW then Wargroove was. Wargroove is the better game but if anyone is looking for a similar experience to AW this is it.
I'll wait for reviews. I didn't buy the original game because of anticipation for Wargroove and the User reviews were mixed.
Not sure about now, but I bought the original Tiny Metal shortly after it came out, and the home menu said "Multiplayer coming soon" for months. I don't think it ever arrived. Game would have been a good AW replacement if it didn't feel so dang unfinished. It even improved on AW in some places, but in others it just felt rushed. Shame.
@forumposter21 Here is NintendoLife review of this game:

@rushiosan They've added multiplayer and some missions.
@mercilessrobot Good news! I've optimized loading times for FMR. They should be half that of TM1. The reason I could not optimize them for TM1 was because Nintendo does not allow us to fully repush the install package. Thus only with FMR did I have a chance to squash file sizes to improve load times. With TM1 each patch was increasing the load times.
@getyourak It is a full new game! Thus we've been able to improve lots of gameplay aspects, including lots of new mechanics players have requested. Before with TM1 patches we were limited in how much we could change without breaking the campaign. Now we have an even longer campaign!
@retro_player_22 Please give us a consideration when you can.
@rushiosan Thank you for asking. We released 3-4 patches for TM1 over the past year. Sadly reviewers and even steam reviewers did no update players upon the progress we made. Thus I feel a lot of players are left where you are, not knowing how much TM1 improved over time. As such we are hoping that with FMR reviewers will be able to tell players about all the improvements we made to TM1 along with the massive improvements in FMR.
@TechaNinja There was a false accusation alleging this, but we took that person to court to prove said lie false. He retracted his statement. Sadly the press did not cover the retraction as much as they covered the original lie, and thus many players did not hear about it
@Masurao I'm sorry about how we handled the Multiplayer. We thought it would be a quick feature to finish but in the end with various console requirements it took me 8 months to implement. We deeply regret promising this feature in the main menu. I was the one who added that main menu notice, and in hindsight it was a massive mistake.
@Daniel_0x143 That’s good to hear! I’ll definitely give it a chance now, I loved the art style but somehow was in the fence due to the mixed reception. Thank you for the reply.
I have yet to play the DLC missions in the original, but this one looks promising. What's wrong with calling it Tiny Metal 2 though? It's confusing now, is it DLC or a sequel?
Anyway, more biomes and the commanders taking to field sounds great. Not sure how I feel about the mecha (I never was a fan of mecha and Wolfram looks more like a sniper than a mech pilot), but I am interested.
I wish the original had local multiplayer as well though, the reliance on FoW made it impossible and no one is playing this online.
@Spoony_Tech Let's be honest: cavalry and ballistas are no replacement for tanks and mechanized artillery!
It was the skirmish maps that did it 77 new ones
@Daniel_0x143 I bought the original day 1 for full price and ended up never finishing it due to extreme load times and confusing messaging around the updates. In the end I felt kind of let down and mislead about the game. Since the load times are never going to get better on the original and it looks like this is an entirely new game, I can't see myself jumping in and playing it. It feels too much like paying full price again for something that was never finished. I realize that it was but to be honest I wasn't even aware of the updates. Hearing that they make the load times longer makes me not want to reinstall at all. It's a real bummer.
@mercilessrobot Hey man, thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts. I'm sorry that our game left you bummed out. About the updates, all last year we worked hoping people would hear about the work and improvements we made. Yet upon release of the major update few people appear to have heard, and maybe 2-3 out of 30 negative Steam reviews were updated to reflect the fixes and improvements. We are in the situation where if we do not release a sequel we'd be releasing improvements and content players would never hear about to enjoy. In keeping with that we made sure FMR is laaaarge content wise. The faster load times are in fact only a small portion of the work I and the team have expended.
Please do consider installing TM1 again, the load time should be long at about 1.5 minutes but that is only the initial load time. TM has always been fast to load a map, thus total load time wise TM should be much quicker than some games. I know myself I am willing to wait multiples of that for my Civ VI matches to load, but I understand TM is no Civ VI.
I hope you will try the improved TM1 with our patches. And I hope after that you will consider FMR once it releases.
@Masurao @Dang69 How dare you say Tiny Metal is terrible! Nintendolife gave a 9/10 anyone how give a low score are idiots.
@LaytonPuzzle27 Didja play it tho? It was also like $25 when it first came out. Felt bad man.
