Super Real Mahjong PV has only been available on Nintendo Switch for a matter of days, but the game has already been pulled from the eShop after several scenes of nudity were spotted by players.
Super Real Mahjong is a series of arcade mahjong titles made by SETA Corporation, with many of its games being ported to the Sega Saturn (although some did make it to the Super Famicom, too). PV is a port of Super Real Mahjong P5, and it recently launched on the Japanese Switch eShop.
Nudity is featured throughout the series' arcade releases, so the Switch port has been heavily censored with beams of light being used to hide any offending material. These lights can be seen in various scenes contained with the game.

Unfortuantely, these beams weren't always 100% accurate in their placement, resulting in certain graphical details slipping through when they should have been fully covered. You can see an example here via Twitter user, QzakuSEGA (but be warned that the image featured may not be suitable for everyone, and is certainly NSFW).
The team behind the Switch release, Mighty Craft Co., has now issued an official statement on the matter, informing fans that the entire game is being corrected and will be once again sent to Nintendo for re-examination. Mighty Craft hopes to have the game back on the eShop next week.
Of course, the question remains: how did the game get by Nintendo's quality assurance in the first place? We'll leave that one for you folks to decide in the comments.

who cares.kids see things way worse than a drawing of a naked lady.
Censoring your game on certain platforms will just make people who are interested in the game avoid that version. Why not just leave everything intact? The eShop has a rating system, does it not?
damn I didn't download it...
It's a shame that censorship is needed in the first place. I don't care about this particular game either way but I don't see what's wrong with a bit of nudity in games as long as it's rated accordingly. Parental controls can do the rest.
This is just a view from somebody who doesn't understand how censorship works, but I really do find it odd how something a little as this gets taken down, but a game like SENRAN KAGURA Reflexions is completely OK. A little accidental nudity VS straight up massaging and caressing various scantily clad anime ladies with the joycons. Seems heavily one sided.
I don't see the problem ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Beams of light suck.
This is stupid. The game is not for children anyway. It's not a matter of seeing a nipple here and there, which certainly couldn't be harmful for kids or anybody. It's a matter of the game being enticing, randy, whatever, but this kind of game is for adults, so... censorship shouldn't be there.
That's some Sony grade nudity censoring right there.
Dang. Wish I got it while I could. For collector's purposses I swear!
Oh my God it's a NIPPLE, hide the children.
Oops, we left some nudity in.
@EarthboundBenjy Yes, they do have a age rating like the ESRB for example on the eshop. To be honest am never much of a fan of nudity or ecchi games anyway. No lose for me.
Didn't realize Mahjong and nudity went together.
We can play Mahjong WITHOUT getting nekky nokky nakey.
Quick, censor those nipple with something less traumatising, like guns, but definitely not unpasteurised cheese or Kinder eggs.
@getyourak Gotta try to make it interesting somehow I guess.
Nobody likes a tattle-tale!
I like how Nintendo passed this the first time round!
@EarthboundBenjy yes, but higher ratings can naturally limit potential audience. That's of little concern with games like Nekopara (which are adult-oriented to begin with), but SETA may not want a rating which would leave them with a crowd who already have their Nekoparas and possibly little interest in mahjong.
You bet there will be comments comparing this situation with the buzz around Sony's recent policies, though. With varying degrees of smugness.😏
Guess it got too real.
It's a nipple, who cares. I would rather my child see a naked body than a mamed destroyed bloody corpse anyways. Censoring basic anatomy seems like overkill.
I was expecting more of how taking this nipple away is against the Constitution and was disappointed.
How ironic is it a Mahjong game of all games is the first game temporarily pulled from the eShop for accidental nudity?
Better watch out for those puzzle games, they are deceptively tantalizing.... I'm still holding out for Backdoor Blocks 9: An x-rated Tetris romp, available exclusively from HBO.
the beam of light is the new way to censored content. we can't use a black bar with the word "censored" or pixelated such content anymore
Mahjong is fun though.
Just wait till Tetris 99 gets taken down.
@saintayu It's certainly not for The Constitution.
Accidental lol
@CurryPowderKeg79 pull it slightly less, I suppose
I’d rather see breasts than heads being bashed open like watermelon. 🍉
Dear lord, the children!
I'm only 45,I don't need games ruining my innocence..
Just remember, if it has a vase it's art, if not it's smut.
Guess I'll add my opinion to the pile and say I'm against censorship, in any form. As long as a game is properly rated, and parents are given the basic tools to restrict what types of games they don't want their kids to see. I don't see a problem with even pornographic games.
That being said, if a publisher is self-censoring. There's not much to say about it, as it's their game. But I still wish the mainstream would stop obsessing about content that they think is too impure for other people, while ignoring similarly graphic content in other mediums.
Do they remember Metropolis Lux Obscura? No need for a censorship!
Oh dear lord, not that!! FEMALE PRESENTING NIPPLES!? Kill it with fire! Hurry, make sure you go back to Doom and blow some heads off, then go over to Civ 6 and use nuclear bombs to wipe out the entire continental US.
#hypocrisy #doublestandards
I don't even think this was ever on any western eShop was it?
For what it's worth, while there's plenty of nudity in anime & manga in Japan, it's not allowed in console games over there for whatever reason, so in this instance it's not a western puritanism story.
@BenAV full nudity isn't allowed in Japanese games, to be sold on the market. Full nudity in JP for games can only be sold on sex game distribution services. Anything considered an 'Adults only' rating, cannot be sold on any console market, including digital only. That's why it was censored, because it showed part of the nipples, causing it to become a 'AO' rated game.
@EasyDaRon Racist
@Morrow Finally someone with sense!
Nipples are Taboo in JP!
This was a JP game!
See the connection!
@Shane76 They could have Senran Kagura level nudity, but that's still considered partial nudity because it doesn't show the nipples in those games. The minute they do, AO game, and cannot be sold on the console market.
What are these strange beams of light blocking my view to natural beauty?
@Morrow Actually there are plenty of M rating games with nudity in them, so really no if they just show the nipples in this game it would just still be M.
Also pretty sure Japan is okay with showing girls nipples, but not those other parts. ( V and D, if you know what I mean).
@IceEarthGuard No, America is okay with full nudity...when it's Western games like Far Cry or Metro. JP however isn't. Multiple companies and even the Japanese Rating Software Board have released statements about not allowing full nudity on platforms (meaning consoles. PC is unaffected, and can sell any rating game). You might also not understand what full nudity is so here's an example:Senran Kagura is fine because no nipples is shown. The nipples only show on the PC modded version, which can sell even sex games, hints why that's allowed on Steam/PC. Although you are right about the V/D part. That also isnt allowed. Breasts can be shown, but nipples can not. Panties or boxers can be shown, but V/D cannot. The ESRB and Japanese Rating Software Board both state that anything 'Adult Only' rating cannot be sold on console market place without censorship to block full nudity to make it M rated.
Oh no, I can see a tiny little bit of a nipple. Something all human beings have. I am greatly and deeply offended. Nintendo should feel awful for allowing this kind of disgusting content on the eShop.
(Sarcasm btw.)
People need to get over themselves. This image here just shows a tiny bit of nipple. Nothing sexual about that. We all have them, guys.
@RR529 Sony and Nintendo have both adopted a stance of not allowing anything deemed "adult only" on their consoles, that brutal violence is considered okay for teens but boobs are "adult only" is the fault of the ratings system, not Sony or Nintendo.
@RupeeClock On PS4 all you could see would be her face. Barely.
They even censor swimsuit pictures now. You'd think it was a Saudi company, not a Japanese one.
Isn't the nudity the point of these kind of games? It's been a sub-genre for ages.
@SmaggTheSmug
It's a reflection of how many developers were producing adult or risque content for platforms, and then are forced to censor their work on the platform, which ruins their appeal as their intended product.
These changes would've come around suddenly and later into the game's development, so instead of throwing out all that hard work, they have to cut their losses and release whatever they have, heavily censored.
What'll likely happen is that these developers will abandon Sony platforms altogether.
@Morrow But showing the full breast is not the definition of "full" nudity.......
Anyways I guess that is for Video games only, since I know that in Anime, they are fine with showing the whole breast. (Like Queens Blade is still continuing surprisingly XD.)
@IceEarthGuard Yeah, video games have stricter rules than anime.
@Heavyarms55 It's Xbox too, but you are right. The ratings board of directors such as ESRB in all countries unanimously agreed to prevent rated A for 'Adults Only' games to be sold on store shelves, or console markets. Even digital doesn't allow it. However, apparently for violence, AO is allowed on digital. There is a horror game coming to switch eshop with an apparent A rating. The story deals with a lot of mental diseases. However, since the game isn't out yet, it could be toned down to an M rating. I do agree with you. It's stupid that violence is okay but nudity isn't. Its just a game people, lol.
@Morrow I figured Xbox did it too, but I couldn't remember. It's just a pretty ridiculous double standard and it isn't limited to gaming. Tumblr blocked smut because Apple's app store threw a tantrum, but on that same site you can find all sorts of extremist content and things far worse than smut. Movies have to be R rated because they drop a few "F-bombs" but can be PG-13 or even PG with rampant violence and killing. And God forbid they show a set of breasts. As a kid my parents initially did not allow me to watch Titanic not because it was a movie about thousands of people dying, but because it showed a mostly naked woman...
@Heavyarms55 Oh yeah, I remember that. It was pretty stupid. Yeah, censorship wouldnt have to be a thing if parents would watch their damn kids or use parental controls. My mom didn't allow me to play M games until 16. Before that was just E and T games like Zelda and Final Fantasy. I think growing up like that allowed me to appreciate more genres than I might have tried if I could play M games at a young age. Now I'm in my 20s and barely play M games, lol. Mainly jrpgs for me.
@Morrow Yeah, I used to cheat and play M rated games like GTA Vice City and San Andreas at my cousin's house without my parent's knowledge (my aunt and uncle didn't know or care either lol) but for the most part my parents were the same way. E as a kid, T as a teen and I remember on my 17th birthday I went to Game Stop to buy an M-rated game for the first time myself. Call of Duty World at War. Back when I still enjoyed those games (I still like those games, it's the more recent ones that don't draw me in as much)
Though the vast majority of my games remain E and T today.
@Heavyarms55 San Andreas flying car cheat anyone? That was my fav part of the game, lol. Mine was Halo. Ah, back when CoD was good.
@Morrow Didn't Halo have that misprint T rating I swear that was a thing and it got recalled. Maybe it was another game. Anyway I cheated and played that at a friend's house too. lol I really liked Halo 1-3 and Reach. Haven't played since 4, which I didn't finish.
@Heavyarms55 Yeah, it did, and got recalled to become an M rating. Much like Gal Gun on the back was rated E, while on the front, it was rated M. Although, that misprint stayed, lol. Well, now we can get a chance to play them again, since Master Chief Collection coming to Steam. I'll definitely buy it. Hey, you wanna add each other on Switch?
@Morrow The Master Chief Collection is coming to Steam? Oh that is very tempting!
And sure: Nintendo Switch FC: 4867-2891-2493
@Heavyarms55 Yep! It's up on the steam store now, but it's not for purchase yet. It says you still need an Xbox live account to play though. I still say it's worth it. You should delete that comment though, so people don't try to spam add you. I already sent my FR.
@Morrow I should see if I can recover my Xbox Live account at some point.
I don't mind if people add me, they are more than welcome to. I have it in my signature in the forums too. I'll add you when I get off work. I am currently not even trying to look productive, but I can't leave for another 2 hours.
@Heavyarms55 Ah, alright then. Lol, you must have a laid back boss. I swear dude, sometimes I think workers should be allowed to leave when they want, as long as they put a good amount of hours in, and accomplished what they were asked to for the day. Although that would mean less hours, so less pay. You just can't win either way, lol.
