As we get closer to PAX East 2019 at the end of this month, more developers and publishers are starting to tease upcoming projects. One of these companies is Gearbox Software, the team behind titles such as Borderlands, Battleborn and Bulletstorm.
Over the past few days, Gearbox has been sharing a series of images on its Twitter account and most recently uploaded a pixelated image that has been identified as Borderlands 2. If you aren't familiar with this title, this is a game from 2012 that's already been released on just about every modern video game platform, except for the Nintendo Switch.
Of course, this has now got fans of the series thinking the looter shooter sequel is coming to Nintendo's hybrid device. If it does happen, surprisingly it wouldn't be the first time the game has been released on a portable device - with the title previously ported to the PS Vita and Shield hardware.
Gearbox is hosting its PAX East 2019 panel on 28th March. If any Borderlands announcements are made for Nintendo Switch, we'll be sure to let you know.

I would definitely give this a try if Borderlands 2 came to Nintendo Switch!
Wouldn’t that be a nice surprise? But I doubt it.
Well a good amount of people still play this game on steam, I don't see why not.
Then again I could see complaints of it being a game from 2012 being ported...
Quite possibly the ported game I want on the Switch the most. Love the series.
Well, I own it on ever other system so I will probably get it for the very lease to have it on the go if it truly is true that it's coming to the Switch.
While I understand that Borderlands2 is bit easier than 1, because it has already been released on PS Vita, I think it'd be better if they released all 3 games instead
Like others, I’ve played this extensively, and yet will probably still pick it up for BL2 on the go. I still have yet to Max all chars.... game is humongous w all the dlc.... only gripe I’ve ever had, when maxing multiple chars, it SUCKS having to slog through the game 3 times across each char. Which is why I prefer D3 for loot grindfest
they should at least port the "handsome jack collection" - borderlands 2 & pre sequel. but no matter what, i don't think, i will buy it (again) .... i bought it already for xbox 360, xbox one, pc, psvita (worst version ever - stuttering / crashes / 5fps ). it's a fun and awesome game, but to buy it the 5th time lol. no thx
My favorite game of all time. Please let this one be true
Switch lacks in many genres & shooters are among this list, so it'll be great to have this series on the platform.
I'd jump right on Borderlands on Switch.
Bored-erlands 2
PSP Vita? I'm guessing that should have just been PS Vita?
i have only just bought this for the xbox one.....
They will probably do a full version of the game and price it €60. I’ve enjoyed it on the PS3, but I won’t doubledip into this one.
I’d rather have the full handsome collection including all story dlc, holiday dlc, character dlc, mini dlc, the pre sequel and its dlc.
You’d hope it would be a complete complete collection.... like others have said. Physical and all the bells and whistles and I am in
Oh my god yes! Is it native on the shield or streamed. If native surly it's a case of porting that. Lost so much time to this and would be my only reason to buy online for switch. Now give me bioshock collection and will be a very happy bunny!
I play a lot on PC, so playing any shooter on the Switch (or any console...) is just horrendous. I can't say I'm excited for this, even if the idea of it on the go is appealing. I think it'd be nice for those who have never experienced the series, as it's a great game.
Could it be the collection that canemto XB1?
I'd be happy to finally give this a go. It's from 2012 or whatever, but graphically it should be fine as these kinds of aesthetics tend to stand the test of time a bit better than yon hyper-realistic efforts. Up for this if true.
This one will really depend on the price for me. At 30? Sure! 40? Maybe! 50-60? Nah, I'm good for awhile.
Loved this on PS3 and platinumed it but would probably give it another go on Switch as it's so much fun. What I would say is that a lot of its humour and references are targeted at quite a specific age group and many younger gamers simply may not understand them, me I'll be stood on the edge of a cliff admiring a double rainbow 😁
10/10 would buy immediately.
@Linoshi
Playing shooters on Switch is phenomenal, provided they have analog gyro hybrid motion for aiming. Second in accuracy only to PC/mouse, and second to none in enjoyment and fun.
I wont play shooters any other way now. But I know a lot of PC gamers who insist on playing shooters with analog gyro hybrid motion when not on PC. Makes playing in handheld insanely easy to line up shots. Which is normally a problem with smaller analogs. Not a problem when motion can fine tune
If this was on Nvidia Shield and PS Vita, then a Switch version is a lock.
Plays perfectly on my Nvidia Shield TV (which I imagine would make porting easy since they share a SoC) but I would really love to be able to play on the go!
I loved this game on Vita
I will buy it for the 4th time (had it on PS3, PS4, and Vita). One of my most favorite games.
Okay it's great if borderlands 2 gets ported to the switch, and I most likely would get it. but it's been a long time coming and I really think there should be a new entry instead of a re-release or a new console port. That being said if they are porting borderlands games, they need to do the entire series instead of just borderlands 2 on the switch.
Borderlands 3 will probably be announced at this show. Why not release this for Switch instead of a 7 year game that most people have already completed? Never been tempted to buy a game twice.
Borderlands 3 or bust.
I played it on Vita. It could easily run on Switch
I could see this happening.
Personally, I prefer Battleborn over Borderlands but I know I'm in the minority on this opinion. I would consider Borderlands 2 since I've only played the first game.
How exactly is this a tease for the Switch?
@illmatic20xx I don't get it either.... Maybe because it's a borderlands 2 image and I guess the only thing it could come to next was the Switch? Other than that I've got nothing. I won't pick it up if it does, because I have it on PC. However, totally worth it if anyone hasn't played it and it ends up being a good port. Very fun game
Already have the Handsom Jack collection on PS4 but if the Switch one comes with all the DLC like that did then i am in.
I don't care if this game is old, it's still one of the best in the genre. And a game I'd be willing to pick up again, if the price is right.
Given that this has already been made available on the Shield platform, which shares the same innards (more or less) than the Switch, porting this over should've been a very easy business decision to take. And a relatively inexpensive port.
But regarding price, I'm not setting myself up with high hopes right now. This is the Nintendo Switch we're talking about. A platform on which old games are often re-released with a price tag quite higher than everywhere else those games are sold. So yeah, if that rumor is true, even if I love the series, it'll depend on the price.
@Realnoize one of the only games to get loot right. No microtransactions, just enough loot to keep you wanting more without giving you overpowered stuff and an excellent case of New Game + done right.
I do however have a fear that being 2k, they will add Microtransactions to buy more loot boxes an that worries me.
Loved it on the 360. Maxed it out. Picked up the re-release on Xbox one made it through the campaign once was bored as hell. So I'll pass. Also expect gearbox to be scumbags and charge full price.
@earthinheritor
Well, they didn't add microtransactions in the Vita version if I remember it correctly. Did they? hmm... I admit it's been a while so my memory of it may be flawed. lol!
Thing is, the Vita version was still fun, even with its horrible framerate (and I usually never complain about that but in this case it was very bad in some areas of the game). But I can't imagine, with the Switch being much more powerful than the Vita, that this port would run worse than on the Vita.
I played again (and finished) Borderlands 1 on a portable console some months ago (love having long commute times - allows me to game!), would gladly take the opportunity to play the second one again.
@Realnoize They didn't but that's just a port not a whole new game. That was also long before 2k said they would go forward with Microtransactions in their games more often and was before the rise of that whole thing. Adding it to a preexisting game is one thing but putting it in as a core mechanic of a whole new entry is entirely different.
If i'm picking up borderlands 2 again it's going to be to try it on PSVR, I just don't have too much interest in getting it for switch. I have it on PC already, and on my Vita.
that image...is that portable footage?
Probably Borderlands 2 vr for pc
And if it costs more than $40 people need to boycott
@Cloudstrife768
That would make it around 50-55$ in Canada... and I think the original game released at $60 back in the days.... That being considered, that would make it totally zero appealing to me.
@iLikeUrAttitude Those complaints are always going to happen and will always be pointless. The year it was released is immaterial. If there's a semi popular game that's not already on Switch, from any console generation, people will want it on Switch. And 999 times out of 1000, it won't impact any other game release so why not bring it to Switch?
I'm a huge fan of porting older games to the switch, though this one has me pretty disinterested. You can dumpster-dive $5 copies of B2 where I am. Perhaps if it was the whole Handsome Jack collection, then I'd bite. Until then, my bizzare fantasy remains Unreal Tournament on Switch.
God forbid gearbox makes an original game. They need that quick cash in to pay for Randy’s diddler accusations
Sorry but I don't see this coming to Switch and that tease doesn't say jack.
Day 1 purchase if true!
They've got some work to do if that's what it looks like on Switch 🤣
Not sure I'm going to buy it, already have it on 2 devices and with Borderlands 3 set to be announced, that will take up my time.
I am not the biggest Borderlands fan, but I hope it comes for the people who want it.
As much as I would love to see 2K games release a Bioshock Collection to the Switch first, I wouldn't say no to Borderlands 2.
I'll buy that if it came out for Switch-the Physical version not eShop.
I would quadruple dip for sure...
Borderlands 2 is a really good game. But it's published by 2K so it'll probably cost $60...
@JaxonH You just reminded me of Splatoon 2 and yes I can confirm it is amazing playing like that lol
@hanp01
I have DOOM on ps4 and Switch. I'd play a level on Switch, and then replay it in 1440p 60fps on PS4pro with no hud, for awesome gameplay footage. I completed Borderlands 2, but I could totally see myself playing this on a portable device again.
I wouldn't mind a whole series port including the mobile game. I enjoyed them all enough I'd pay for them again.
@iLikeUrAttitude Skyrim would like a word with you
@k4therin3 Ok you got me there.
That would be neat!
They got greedy with the vita and went full resolution. As such it barely got of the teens as far as frame rate goes. 720p and 30 fps would be the minimum expectation on the switch.
