As you may well have noticed, Pokémon developer Game Freak has recently launched its very own YouTube channel, giving fans little insights into the behind-the-scenes life at the studio. In a recent video, members of the team decided to have a quick game of Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo 64, no doubt hoping to settle who's the very best - like no one ever was - once and for all.
Among the contestants are Game Freak's executive director and generally world-famous Pokémon overlord Junichi Masuda, and battle system programmer Masao Taya. In a move that will shock generations to come, Masuda opted to play with Pikachu; others chose Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Samus.
Rather than spoil the result, we'll let you watch events unfold for yourself below. As with all of Game Freak's videos, the whole thing is in Japanese, but you'll still be able to see what's going on from a gameplay point of view.
Do we have any Pikachu-maining readers in the house? Do you think you'd be able to take on Game Freak at the game? Share your thoughts with us below.

Wow.I'm guessing Masuda never really played this before.
Haha! I love this game on wii VC (r.i.p.). It's honestly kind of funny watching the creators play as their own characters in a fighting game!
Hahah.. this is kind of painful to watch.
I used to destroy with Pikachu on Smash 64, but from then on I never played much Smash. Hoping to turn that around with Ultimate.
Ironic that no one played as Jigglypuff.
That game has not aged well lol
@mikegamer it's not aged this game is still more fun than most games - if that is all one looks at then you missed the point of the game already, so sad.
Talk about kids having to much fun.
Hard for me to follow multiple characters watching a Smash mash, but they look like they're as bad at the game as I am.
@SwitchForce The low framerate kills it for me
That's where SSB began for me, when it was slow, deliberate, niche, and a lot more comical, lol. I'm surprised no one picked Kirby, but it likely wouldn't have mattered anyway considering the skill level on display
Think I'll download this back to my Wii U. I miss the olden days
Even the pokemon creator can't get his hands on Smash Ultimate yet huh?
My best mate used to main pikachu and I mained Mario. We had some battles on that game. In the end I opted to go with maining DK and power punching him off the screen. (Worked it out, a fully charged DK punch could knock pika when it's health was on at least 34%)
Awesome game, released long before the Final Smash came into existence. Pikachu, Link, Kirby and Captain Falcon were my favourites. I think modern Smash games are getting a bit too complicated at times, sometimes you just want some simple fun.
@TossedLlama
Just use an N64 to GCN adaptor:

@TossedLlama No problem - I have one for the wii VC and it works really well.
