Reflect on the indie releases of 2018 and one of the standout games was the roguelike action title Dead Cells by French-based developer Motion Twin. The title was praised by critics and sold incredibly well, especially on the Switch eShop where it managed to outsell the PlayStation 4 version.
When a game has this level of success, normally a sequel is expected. In the case of Dead Cells, this might not be the case. Speaking to Game Informer, Motion Twin game designer Sébastien Bénard said it was best for the studio not to dwell on its success:
"If you create a big hit, it’s best to use this energy to make something different. I don’t think we’ll make a Dead Cells 2. We’re more open to creating more content and opening the game up more to the community. If we did make a Dead Cells 2, it’s because we really need the money (laughs). We don’t want to stick to the same thing though, so I think if we did come back it would be something quite different, not a platformer or roguelike along these lines."

It is a great game, I hope they do change their mind on making a sequel eventually. If they want to make an original IP that's cool too.
To be fair, the game officially launched only a few months ago, so they probably have their minds set on quality support for the game and other projects anyways.
I like his attitude. so if there is a dead cells 2 I will presume he has sold out to financial pressure
I am still enjoying Dead Cells. So I like that they are not interested in doing a sequel. If they do decide to go back to this genre I would prefer a new IP or setting.
Fine by me. Not every successful game needs 10,000 sequels that get stale really quickly. Besides, roguelikes are usually more suited to content updates rather than a flat out sequel.
Maybe down the line they will make a spiritual sequal. As in not Dead Cells 2, but use much of the gameplay and improving things while using new ideas (maybe different art style?).
But this game is on my list of many games to play!
It seems they want to make something different and not just stick with the same type of games.
Hoping they make something great again in the future.
Dead Cell is a great game but I too don't really want a sequel of it that much unless it could offer something new and refreshing.
Hallelujah! We seem to live in an age of sequels, so I applaud his desire to do something new.
I'm starving for a good metroidvania but from what I've heard this is not the answer. Symphony over this crap any day.
No need for a sequel. I've put about 80 hours in on this game already, and I can foresee spending plenty more. A good roguelite (and I think Dead Cells is the best since Isaac) has tons of replay built in to the formula.
This is an admirable mindset for a developer to have. As much as I love Yacht Club Games for making Shovel Knight, my heart aches just a bit when they talk about making Super Shovel Knight, or Shovel Knight 64. I'm glad to see these guys are more ambitious than that.
Brilliant, I like the attitude. "I've made a great game, lets make another but completely different." Wish more devs were liek this instead of churning out the same game but putting 2 on the end with a slightly different storyline
I’m just now realizing that the game’s avatar has 3 arrows shot in his back and a knife thrown in there as well.
Best if they just added more levels etc then dead cells two after all it's a fantastic game more levels or world's would be good enough as long as the level of details remains?
Still no sign of a quality Dear Cells patch on Switch after all these months? Being the best selling platform and all as well.
Nothing wrong with not succumbing to sequelitis...
omg guys yes this game is good and challenging at most i say. they will came their minds so watch and see how they do.
