An official Twitter account for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie has appeared, seemingly operating as a way to keep people talking about the film via memes and humour.
At this point, you're likely aware of the shenanigans surrounding the first couple of movie poster reveals - the first poster received an overwhelmingly negative reaction as fans came to terms with Sonic's new muscular physique, and it only got worse with the second poster's full leg reveal.
The new account's first (and currently only) original tweet addresses fan concerns by joking with those who have said negative things online. As you can see, a picture of a possibly even more muscular Sonic can be seen holding a poster with the words "Can't a guy work out?" blazed across its front. The image's caption tells you everything you need to know.

Aside from this tweet, the account has also been retweeting images from other users, even if they're not exactly showering the movie with praise. Here are a few examples.

Whatever your thoughts on Sonic's new look, it seems like this is only the beginning of a journey full of jokes, memes, and shattered dreams (which could end up serving as a good autobiography chapter title in years to come).
As ever, feel free to share your thoughts on this topic in the comments below.

I will give it a chance, before i judge.
It's just wrong, get over it people, games to films hardly ever work. Keep your expectations low, but be suprised IF it is any good. (Yes a big if)
I had to follow it now just to see the carnage.
Someone should sue them, they're a huge company stealing memes and profiting while the original creators get zilch.
What’s really concerning is that right shoe doesn’t fit correctly and he’s bound to trip over
i'll be waiting to see the first trailer. and my reaction will either be: not shocking or eating my own words.
The movie will be terrible but it's worth it for the Internet reactions and memes.
Could turn out to be genius--right!
The real Sonic film was the memes we made along the way.
Can't say I expected less from a franchise that has done a take on Misery in one of its animated episodes and whose creators have publicly stated they're not afraid to try things they want even at the expense of disappointing someone (on the flipside, there WAS that one sad moment when they were compelled to apologize before fan scum, but it's the only one I'm aware of - and since then, they have apparently taken to just employing some actual talent in fans' human hosts for satellite works rather than try and appease fans themselves).
I'm rather indifferent to this whole movie thing (and to the likewise LA/CGI Pokemon one as well), but I welcome the sight of even PR folks taking the rabid fanship in mirthful stride.
People just need to get over themselves. The original Sonic videogame character can never translate to a real action CGI movie. It would look just terrible and unnatural.
They obviously try to make Sonic a bit more believable since, again, this seems to be a real action CGI movie in the real world ala the upcoming Pokémon film.
Typical first world problems to break the internet over.
I'll reserve judgment until I have seen the trailer.
That said. One thing I can agree on, is that seeing how they have treated the Sonic game franchise lately, that expectations of a good film will be extremely low.
they are just adding more fuel to the fire honestly.
this is both pure genius and pure stupidity.
imagine if the whole "bad design" thing was just a campaign for the movie. doubt it, but still. (I'm honestly kinda fine with the design now anyways.)
Deep down those Sonic social media folk want this, all of it
i n a j i f f y
Still think it’s too early to judge but so far, it looks like the only thing that’s moving at the speed of sound is the negative reviews.
I still can’t stop laughing!!! 😂
I have always wanted a Metroid movie to happen. However... it's a dangerous move which is likely to dissappoint. It would need a massive budget and a proven succesful director, which won't ignore the series lore to stand any chance at all. Is it worth a shot? Probably not.
@Spectra This has kinda been my biggest problem with Sonic and its general PR over the past few years.
The memes and jokes help the Sonic brand to stay relevant, but they're just not substitutes for quality content. And it starts to show after a while.
Worse, it's not like they dont know how to do things right or find success (the comics, Sonic Mania, the animated shorts, etc.), but it's like they're almost afraid being that successful on the regular.
This can't help but be terrible.
Sooner or later... probably later... Hollywood will begin mining gaming franchises with richer stories and characters
There's nothing to be truly upset about just yet. So it's all in good fun for now.
It's gonna be trash no matter how Sonic looks. It's a live action Sonic movie. That is never going to work.
STOP MAKING LIVE ACTION ADAPTIONS, HOLLYWOOD!
Frankly, they should have just stayed quiet and left it be. This just fans the flames.
Why do I get the feeling that some Sonic fans will send black mail to these psychopaths how making this movie.
I’m laughing so hard at those fan pics
The problem is the imposition of the assumed physicality of the character. Sonic is no longer a collection of pixels in a homogeneous shape but is now being molded into a strange Grinch Hybrid with masculinity overtones. I realize this is a movie but if you break that common thread the makes the games appealing then you are left with a creepy blue guy and a reverse mullet doing God knows what in the real world.
@Bunkerneath is that pokemon detective movie out yet? That trailer looked alright!
@Zidentia Sonic = blue Grinch? I think you might be right!
By the way did you like the CGI smurfs?
@The-Chosen-one exactly! Brace yourself for "you're ruining my childhood" rants.
...The internet is so broken right now lol
That popcorn must have a lot of salt on it.
@Aneira I found this short film a while ago so I don't know if you'll like it but: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3kfyZJhC3U
Ok, I'll admit it. Trolling the Sonic fandom when there's a lot of cash on the line (I assume this movie won't come cheap) requires tons of guts.
@Jeronan But no one asked for a real action CGI Sonic movie.
and yeah Sonic would be more fitting to a full CGI like the Sonic Unleashed intro/mini films or Anime like Sonic OVA/Sonic Mania
What I don't get is.. who are they making this for? the recent games don't even had real world/human stuff anymore last game that did was Unleashed 10 years ago, even then it was Pixar like
It bad enough when Sonic 06 tired to use real life settings/graphics which starting to look good after this train wreak but whats the point of making a film about Sonic, where it barely even looks like him or his games...
Unless there going out of their way to purposely make the movie like Mario's live action one at least back you could argue this sort of thing has never been done and CGI wasn't there yet, but in 2018 you would expect something better... not worse.
Sonic fans have endured several disappointments and shi**y games over the years, I think for many this movie was the straw that broke the hedgehog's back.
@Baart Lmao, you've clearly never used Twitter before then. They're retweeting memes, not stealing them from the original creators. Also no profits are made either... they're literally Twitter memes...
Ohh please. All these bad reviews are from people that still will watch the Super Mario movie. Might be bad might not but regardless everyone of them will watch it
@tameshiyaku By pointing this stuff out, you're ruining my "ruining my childhood" rants!
@Chronova what's a twiiter?
I have a feeling that this movie will turn out as good as the Bay Transformers movies. Specially the second movie. And I guess every movie after that one as well.
I guess bad press is press to circulate to them
I think the posters look hilarious. And I have decided to swear off watching live action vg movies after Detective Pikachu, so it will no longer bother me.
Live action cartoon movies are pretty much always formulaic, uncreative, focus group written movies about a loser guy who is taught to not take himself too seriously by bonding with the cartoon character. Live action animation doesn't have to be bad, but by the numbers studio written movies do. I'm leaving a little possiblity open for Detective Pikachu to be different because I know the work of its writers (Gravity Falls and GotG, last I checked), to be good, but I'm not betting the farm on it, especially since it hasn't escaped the other law of live action cartoon movies, "Thou shalt make all cartoon elements look uncanny and freaky"
@Mr_Horizon
Not really. It seemed disjointed. The rendering did not match the spirit of the character.
@Matthew010
I liked it. Thanks for showing.
@Aneira You're welcome!
