Yo-Kai Watch 4 - the next entry in the Yo-Kai Watch series and the first to appear on Switch - has seen a delay in Japan, it has been confirmed.
Originally, the game had been scheduled to arrive in winter 2018, but the latest issue of Japanese magazine CoroCoro has revealed that it has now been pushed back to spring 2019. Of course, apart from this entry, the Yo-Kai Watch games have all released on 3DS, with this latest instalment likely being the biggest step up the franchise has seen to date. We expect that this new development territory and larger project scale are to blame.
This delay does help the west in its bid to catch up with the series, however; Europe and North America are only getting the previous entry - Yo-Kai Watch 3 on Nintendo 3DS - over the coming months, so this might help to bridge the gap between western and Japanese releases just a little. Even if this delay has a knock-on effect for the localisation of the new Switch title, at least we'll be able to play Yo-Kai Watch 3 just before the fourth entry comes out.
Are you looking forward to Yo-Kai Watch 3 releasing this winter? Or are you more excited for the prospect of a new Yo-Kai adventure on Switch? Feel free to share your thoughts with us down below.

I still wonder if Yokai Watch 3 English version will come in 2 - 3 versions like Japanese version (Sushi, Tempura, Sukiyaki).
I guess they will change into BBQ, Hamburger or any American dishes.
@ReaderRagfish
Ha! Awesome.
I'm fine with this. Early screenshots of the game showed how fantastic it looked, and I'm fine with the game being delayed to polish it up and perhaps add more content to it. I just hope it releases in America much faster than previous Yokai Watch games. Its gonna give Pokemon 2019 a run for its money.
@Anti-Matter Well if 4 Kids taught me anything, we will be getting the Cheeseburger, Doughnut, and Water versions of the game.
Honestly, thats probably a lot better of timing. Just after Pokemon Lets Go sales slow and just before the anticipation of Pokemon 2018. The less time to compare it to the established series, the better.
I can't help but feel they should pish more effort into Watch 4 localization. I think they should even localize 4 but call it just "Yokai Watch". Introduces new people to the series easier.
This is great, because 1) it gives the game more space to shine without being overshadowed by big Japanese holiday hits like Smash, Pokemon, and Dragon Quest Builders 2, and 2) while the game looks utterly gorgeous, the performance was simply awful. I'm no stickler for frame rates, I don't need everything to be silky-smooth 60fps, but YKW4's stuttering framerate was almost nauseating to me. Hopefully they can fix up that performance before launch.
Was going to import this, but at least I'll be able to play YW3 before YW4.
Demo footage from the Tokyo Game Show revealed that the game has performance issues, so that's probably why it's delayed.
Graphically, it blows Let's Go out of the water. Hopefully, Gen 8 doesn't use the same tile-map style I thought we were done with in Gen 7.
@ieatdragonz Reusing the name of the first game would just cause confusion, but I'm all for not using the number.
Probably should just call it Yokai Watch: Shadowside to tie in with the anime series... assuming that gets a dub.
Delay it until it runs at 60fps! Seriously, I enjoy he Yokai games and am looking forward to it's Switch debut. It would be sweet to have it run at 60...
Delaying for the sake of polishing is never a bad thing! It'll give me a little more time to catch up anyway. XD I still need to play my copy of Fleshy Souls before the next set of games is released/localized.
@Seacliff Yeah, was considering a subtitle. Just couldn't come up with one that fit. Yours is definitely better than the "reboot with the same name" as it isn't a reboot.
I like Yokai Watch and want it to succeed. I really did enjoy the first game, but was in a weird mindset when the second one released. The anime was definitely good fun to watch as well (though, I couldnt help but feel guilty in using too much time to watch). Hoping to get back into the series with 3.
The only real thing I didnt like about the original was event yokai. That was something I would've prefered them not to borrow from Pokemon.
Last note: Good profile pic. Blizzaria is great <3
The gameplay we saw, as Seacliff mentioned, had some big framerate drops. So there's no way it could (or should) have been released this year.
Though imagine if this new entry became the first globally released Yokai Watch game. It would be a big step in getting the franchise known in the west, I would hope.
I really wanna see how they handle the battle system. I was a fan of the story part, but I will not ruin my Switch's screen to play it...
Very much hoping this gets released in the West faster than the other Yo-Kai Watch games.
@MattFox If you haven't seen any of it yet, there was demo gameplay shown at Tokyo Game Show.

Hopefully this delay is because of 3 coming out in the west. This in my book is a hope for the game to come out the next month internationally.
@Seacliff Thanks, man! Just saw it. So now it is a Action-JRPG, huh? Well, it looks gorgeous, and no touch controls, so I`ll give it a go for sure!
Does this mean yo-kai watch 4 is also coming in spring for North America
