Pre-order listings have revealed that Nintendo's latest free-to-play offering Pokémon Quest will launch on mobile devices on 28th June.
After it's sudden launch on Switch at the end of last month, Pokémon Quest has given fans of the series a nice little way to pass the time before Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! - and next year's core RPG - land on the system. The game has been performing rather well, too; it only took two days for it to reach over one million downloads, and that number has reportedly risen to around 2.5 million since then.
As promised, though, the game's launch on smartphones is just around the corner, with listings on Google Play and the iTunes store allowing fans to pre-register right now. The release date shown for the title is 28th June, as mentioned above, meaning that there isn't long to wait before players can choose between the two versions.
It's worth noting that data cannot be transferred between the Switch and mobile versions of the game - if you were hoping to play the game on Switch for the most part, before picking up where you left off on your phone, this will sadly be impossible.

I've already lost interest in it once so I don't feel the need to try it again.
Good news for the 7 Pokémon fans that don't have a Switch yet
Played it. Bought the DLC. Got bored fast. Searching through the pokemon collection is a chore and slow.
Played until I reached the random levels.
Saw the steep progression curve.
Couldn't bother to start pokemon quest every 2 hours while I was playing another game.
This game belongs on mobile, not switch.
as soon as the mobile version appears I'm removing it from my switch. I hope I can transfer my save across as otherwise it's hardly worth starting from scratch again.
@Kimyonaakuma "Good news for the 7 Pokémon fans that don't have a Switch yet "
I know it was a joke, but considering the number of players of Pokemon Go still you are probably off by at least six zeroes, probably closer to 7 million. Not everybody playing Pokemon Go bought a Switch for Pokemon Quest and so far that's the only Pokemon game on Switch.
"data cannot be transferred between the Switch and mobile versions of the game"
Well that's just stupid. I can see Nintendo being to lazy to do it but it's still stupid.
Bigger question - now that it will be on mobile, and probably joining the other mobile games on MyNintnedo, will the Switch version finally be tied in to my Nitnedo? IT's been well over a year since Switch launched and it's still as if Switch and MyNintedo are run by separate companies. Getting 1 cent per Gold point hardly makes MyNintneod Switch friendly. If people start getting platinum coins for playing Pokemon Quest daily and using platinum coins to buy batteries to play the game longer but the Switch version is left out it's just going to make the MyNintedo and Switch connection look even worse than ti already does. And right now there really isn't even a connection to make look worse.
I'm mostly done w/ the game, boss of 9 and 10 left, but they are so far out of reach I've given up. We'll see if Nitnedo gives us anything on Switch to celebrate the mobile launch. Maybe a level 100 Pokemon or something.
But it's going to look really stupid if the mobile port ties into MyNintnedo rewards and the Switch version doesn't. Guess we'll see next week.
@gspro15198 Last non-italicized paragraph in the article you just replied to:
"It's worth noting that data cannot be transferred between the Switch and mobile versions of the game - if you were hoping to play the game on Switch for the most part, before picking up where you left off on your phone, this will sadly be impossible."
@rjejr must have missed that sentence. pretty clear cut reason to not bother with it then as I was sure that everything was transferrable between platforms.
@rjejr "so far that's the only Pokemon game on Switch"
You forgot Pokken
I'm really enjoying Pokemon Quest! I like using my pro controller with it so interesting to see how I get on with mobile..
I'm pretty salty about progress or at the very least your purchases don't carry over to mobile. I mean I guess I should have expected it but it makes me mad anyways. I thought it would be as simple as logging in with your Nintendo account on mobile and syncing with their server. Either that's not the case or Nintendo just hopes people rebuy on mobile?
EDIT: Just wondering where you came up with that information if I may ask? Did that come in a press release for you guys? Cause reading through the google play listing it says although saved data is local, you can back it up on the server. This potentially means the Switch version could have the same backup function added. I'm just grasping at straws here hoping this was just your interpretation of what the store listing said. Cause I can't find anything that guarantees no transfer of anything at all.
@SmaggTheSmug "You forgot Pokken"
Yeah thanks, you got me there, I did forget. Had I remembered I probably would have written it off as not a Pokemon game anyway. But I suppose a lot of people feel that way about Quest, writing off all of the Rumble games.
I had written off Mario v Rabbids as "not a Mario game" but after playing it the past few days it's as much a Mario game as Color Splash and Sticker Star. Maybe a better one. Not as god as Thousand Year Door but it still feels like a Mario JRPG rather than your typical turn based strategy game like Advance Wars.
@gspro15198 "pretty clear cut reason to not bother with it then"
I don't understand why they couldn't' transfer over a save. I've played Candy Crush over the years on probably 6 different devices - PC, phones and tablets - never had to start over. There's probably less than 1MB of data. And they already have the MyNintnedo account NNID stuff connecting all of of our apps to our accounts so finding us shouldn't be a problem. And it might encourage new non-Switch owners to signup for Nintnedo accounts and look into the Switch more. Maybe it will come later?
And I don't plan on starting over either but I'll probably download it and sign on just to have it linked to my account just in case. Maybe get another couple hundred platinum coins I can watch disappear in 6 months.
@cfgk24 "I like using my pro controller with it "
I have a faux wired Pro controller and it seems to work ok, I'm nto missing Rumble or gyro as far as I can tell. My son will only play touchscreen as he says it's faster than trying to move the pointer back and forth w/ the stick. Which ti probably is, way too often I miss the move button. Maybe 10-20% of the time. I know there is a shoulder button to change Poekmon and hit a button for their move but I never can remember to do it.
I tried the game, but it only reinforced my feeling towards "freemium" games or "free to start" as Nintendo like to call them. Whatever.
One of the reason a person like me invested in a Nintendo Switch, is to have a portable device that can play more "traditionnal", console-grade games on the go. If I wanted to play those freemium titles, I'd be already playing them on the devices I already own, no need to buy another device.
I play games to escape the mundane reality, I don't want games to have gimmicks reminding me all too often that I can pay with real-world money to sidestep artificial barriers put in place for no other reason than to get my money.
Game seemed ok for that type of experience though. But I played maybe about an hour of it, and it was sufficient for me to lose interest and wish for a more traditionnal Pokémon game like the old ones.
This game is actually quite addicting.
Played it for over 10 hours now.
I will only play this on mobile. There are alot of good games on switch.
Pokemon Quest is a very enjoyable game and it belongs to the Switch as much as it belongs to the mobiles. All this meow-meow from certain NintendoLife users for everything is so annoying.
I like the occasional daily go of this. Space issues on my mobile mean I'll never play it there.
2.5 million downloads on Switch thus far, I wonder just how well the mobile version will do?
It would be nice if the game got an update to make many aspects less annoying when navigating menus and if the late game were a bit more fair. As it stands, there is no room for this game to grow further since you can easily get to level 100 and NEED to because even then your mons get one shot at the end often times.
Oh well, I hope those without switches enjoy it. It can be decent enough and buying stuff with real money is really not needed.
That our save cannot be transferred between Switch and phone, kills this game for me. I had already lost interest, but now for sure I am done. Time to archive the game and free up a little room on the SD card.
