Splatoon 2's upcoming Octo Expansion has us positively shaking with anticipation; we expect the single-player offering to launch in the west on 31st July (alongside its Japanese launch), but these little glimpses of new levels and missions are making the wait even more painful.
The video above shows off another brand new level, this time tasking the player with taking on waves of enemies on a surface which takes damage from your ink and disappears. It looks like the Octo Expansion could offer a pretty hefty rise in challenge compared to the game's already existing campaign, with even more thought needed to come up with successful strategies.
On a side note, the squid design layout of the playing surface there reminds us of the bonus levels found in games like Super Mario Galaxy. Maybe we'll see all sorts of crazy designs and nods to our favourite characters as the expansion goes on.

I love that Super Mario Galaxy lives on through Splatoon's single player. They have so many similarities!
It does make me want a third game or remaster for Switch though
This looks ike a helluva lot of work had fine into this DLC Octo expansion!
Oh yeaaa this is going to be amazing. So glad they made more single player missions.
Wait, 31st? Did they go back on their July 13th date?
Pretty sure I heard it was going to be July 13th.
Can't wait for this. Playable Octolings aside (which is really great), the new single player campaign looks amazing.
I love Splatoon but the singleplayer is just horrible. Really boring and bland. The enemies are dumb, the levels forgettable. I don't like the floating platforms, make it feel like it uses a random level generator.
It would be better if the levels were bigger and less linear. More sandboxy with different routes to paint.
@Yosher This is literally what I needed to justify purchasing Splatoon 2. I've had the game since launch coz I wanted to see what it was all about, but it doesn't really keep me occupied that much. It's a mix of me not liking half the competitive modes (I don't play ranked during rainmaker and clam for example), and not being able to play grizzco 24/7. That and the singleplayer campaign was (albeit great) REALLY short for my taste.
This, though? A ton of hard levels is the perfect getaway when Rainmaker or Clam modes are active.
has the price for the expansion been released?
@Blizzia You probably don't get on the tower either?
@BigKing Why wouldn't I? I legit wrote that I do NOT play Rainmaker and Clam Blitz. That implies that I spend my time playing Splatzones and Tower Control... Which implies I might not be braindead in those modes.
Man, these levels look like they could be frustrating... I'm excited.
@ValhallaOutcast £17.99
Are they also showing off a sticker or patch which can be applied to outfits....
As much as I love playing Splatoon, I'm not a fan of the single player campaign. I eventually beat it, but theres no way I'm going back through for the collectables. The Octo Expansion looks like it has more potential, so I'm hoping it's not just a re-skin that swaps out the floating islands for subway platforms.
The whole singleplayer mode of Splatoon & Splatoon 2 was basically Mario Galaxy with Ink, so it's not a surprise the Octo Expansion is (partly) too.
Based on what I'm hearing, I decided to give this an alternate name.
Octo Galaxy: Splatted Star DUN DUN
Hopefully some better, new, multiplayer levels will drop soon too🙏🏻
