Activision's latest shooty-shooty-boom-boom game Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was officially revealed to the world late last week, but one thing missing from the presentation was any mention of a Switch version - something that many had optimistically expected, given recent rumours.
Twinfinite asked senior producer Yale Miller if there were any plans for the game on Switch in the future, and got a slightly disappointing reply. Miller apparently shot down the discussion with a quick “No there is not”, which we guess puts to bed any talk of Black Ops 4 coming to Nintendo's console. That of course doesn't rule out a Call of Duty entry on Nintendo's hybrid system in some shape or form of course, but we guess we'll see in the fullness of time.
If you're still interested in learning more about the game despite the lack of a Switch version, then head over to our friends at Push Square where you'll find out about the lack of a solo campaign, the game's on-trend "Battle Royale" mode and its unique zombie scenarios - one of which is set aboard the Titanic.

The lack of a campaign has destroyed any interest I had in this installment though i still hope they will consider a unique entry for the Switch. Although the “Live Services” that Acti-Bliz now covet means that it would probably be a game I would also lack interet in.
Oh no what a shame <-- sarcasm
Really don't like any Call of Duty to be fair, and if it doesnt come with a campaign mode. Meh, they are just being lazy.
Ok then. I'll just get Wolfenstein 2.
This just in: No plans from Shiryu to give money to Activision this year.
Considering how tightly planned these games are, this isn't all that surprising. I would be surprised however if Call of Duty 2019 skips the Switch.
Activision would be crazy not to capitalise on local multiplayer for a Call of Duty game on Switch. LAN parties on the go!
This wasn't too surprising really, however I think it helps paint a bigger picture at where third party developers and publishers see the Switch.
Someone just bring the arceusdamn PUBG.......
@Silly_G Activisionblizzard, the largest and richest gaming company on the planet cannot afford to sell games at retail price. If you can convince your LAN friends that games as a service and a small investment in microtransactions is worth it, say a mere $20 a week for the forseeable future, then perhaps it'd be worth their time.
That's so funny....calling it 'shooty-shooty-boom-boom game' .....any way I am not too much into this type of shooters to me COD is more like 'shi*y-shi*y-boom-boom game'
The Good news is that is NOT coming to Switch.
The Bad news, it is still coming.
@Shiryu
Obviously Nintendo want to increase the amount of switches sold so they can get a better deal!
Welp, their loss
@Alikan They posted a record profit of nearly $8 billion this year, with $4 billion of that coming from microtransactions and the rest from physical game sales. If you think they aren't making serious profit from game sales, I have some magic beans you might be interested in....
Well, at least now they cannot blame Nintendo players for the sales disaster.
Actually if you look at the 3rd party stuff that has been ported to the Switch, 99% of it is story based (aside from sports and fighting games). The only 2 big exceptions are Rocket League and Payday 2. Outside of if we want their game or not, I think it’s pretty obvious that they don’t want to make single player content any more and the numbers say most of us won’t buy what they are selling on the Switch.
I know I have no interest in this or Destiny or Battlefront.
This is a shame really. Not because I would get this game (no single player campaign = no buy), but because it shows how much interest these companies have in terms of making games for the Switch. For some reason, I was certain that now companies will start porting their new AAA games to the Switch. Now it seems that they weren't happy with the sales of Bethesda games on the system and will probably just port their shovelware and maybe some older titles. And that is honestly pretty sad, because these big AAA games could've pushed the hardware sales and made Switch a current Gen competitor.
Eh. Doom and Wolfenstein will fill that FPS void just fine.
No skin off my nose, though these third-party hiccups don't really help the Switch's brand.
@Menchi187 sorry sarcasm doesn't fly on the internet well. I agree with you, but they, EA, and other AAA developers have stated its no longer profitable to sell games. As you said, fully half their profits were microtransactions.
Completely aside from the Switch availability. That trailer showed some cool abilities, I think. Beyond that, it was very tired looking and full of uninteresting imagery and clichés. "Eat this!" was one of my favorite low points, in competition with the swimming soldier suddenly losing buoyancy when shot and dropping to the riverbed like a rock.
It's probably fun, I can enjoy that type of game play sometimes, but you can sense the pressure on the franchise to keep exciting its fanbase. Maybe there's something here I'm not seeing, as someone out of that loop?
More time for other Switch games
No campaign = no buy. Wolfenstein did it right, scrap the multiplayer and focus on the single player. Even DOOM could have done without the tacked on MP, and it's associated download on the Switch.
I’d be sad if I actually cared about cod. But since the last one I bought was ghosts, and the last one I actually played a lot was cod4, no loss for me. Plenty of other mindless shooters out there to play. My bud and I played a lot of doom this past weekend. He really just wanted to see how it compares to his PS4 version. And now he is getting a switch for that, wolfenstein, rocket, and dark souls. He was also a cod fan and bought every one and dlc since cod3. But he is jumping ship now too.
These games have a three year dev cycle, it is not surprising that they are skipping switch. In fact I was worried they would announce it and we would get some broken port.
No real loss tbh.
It's a shame there isn’t a single-player campaign - the Black Ops campaigns were my favorite in the franchise. I probably wouldn’t have gotten this game anyway.
It’s still disappointing (though not surprising) that Switch isn’t getting a version of this game, though. It’s odd that Activision hasn’t jumped on board the Switch train yet. I guess somebody at Activision knows something I don’t know, because it seems like they’re missing out by not putting this game on this system.
@subpopz I don't think they've officially published sales numbers, but judging by the fact that 1. They never said anything about how the games preformed and 2. Most off the Switch ads have Nintendo made games in the spotlight (Skyrim was shown once or twice, Doom wasn't at all), I'm assuming their titles weren't sales wise even close to the games Nintendo published on the Switch. And it seems that all these big developers are scared by this and also the fact that Nintendo players aren't used to spending money on microtransactions, which play a big role in the overall profit. The thing is that if they did release a well optimized and complete game and advertised it for the Switch as one of the platforms, I think the game would sell very well. But that's just a risk these guys aren't willing to take.
Zero F**ks given
I have no intention to give Activision my money. I stopped playing Cod back around Black ops.
This will make zero noticeable difference to Switch sales or Activisions profits.
Shame. Not one for me anyway, but welcome any game that could bring a new audience for Switch, which could then translate into more same day third party releases.
If we could just get a decent version of the original Modern Warfare on the Switch, that'd be fine.
@electrolite77 I agree with half of your statement. I don't think this game specifically would lead to many more Switch sales. I do think it would have a positive impact on Activision's profits though. The Switch is selling extremely well and doesn't appear to be slowing down, so I think it is a huge opportunity for Activision.
Absolutely nothing to back up this speculation, but if I had to guess, this title was already too far along in development to consider bringing it to Switch. My hunch is we'll see next year's CoD (Or a spinoff) come to Switch. The userbase is just getting too big to ignore.
Everybody knows third party games don't sell well on Nintendo consoles. Nintendo fans are always convinced it will bring a new audience to the console(it won't) but they don't buy the games themselves. Every generation it's the same. First one or two years you will get some third party support (mostly ports)and then it will die out.
@Sgt-Hassan93 PUBG is pretty much a given now that they have released the mobile version on PC. Basically means it can run on anything.
Sucks for those who want to play an always-online game on a platform that may not always be online.
The lack of a single-player campaign still stings.
Sad for the ones who wanted this, but personally I'm overjoyed. I freaking hate CoD as a franchise, and I will forever hope it never comes to the Switch. Not a single title. The last good CoD game for me was World at War, and everything since that has been terrible.
PeRsOnAl OpInIoN.
No single player campaign, then no thanks. I would rather have COD world at war, black ops 1 & 2, Modern Warfare 1 & 2 or COD ghost instead. I would even take cod infinity war campaign for switch. It wasn’t my favorite COD but I had fun and it was solid shooter.
I was still holding out hope for a WW2 COD game old or new.
A garbage franchise is not coming to Switch? Good cause we don't need anymore of it. It would join among the other garbage I hope would never come to Nintendo system including anything Final Fantasy, Street Fighter V, and EA games.
@aaronsullivan
As long as there are 12 year olds, there will be CoD.
As hard as it is to admit, Nintendo consoles will always lack a lot of great titles. Let's face it: It's rare (and sometimes impossible) to ever see the latest GTA or the latest whatever, and Nintendo is partly to blame for this.
I don't personally like Call of Duty, but you get my point (im speaking about intensive games in general).
After all, why purchase the lesser experience when you can get the superior experience on another system for the same exact price? (and by that, I mean better online play and more realism, etc). This console has given us portability, but Nintendo consoles need more than that if they ever hope to see certain titles.
Hopefully Nintendo will slowly adapt better specs in the future, even if it has to sell consoles at a loss for a while.
Who cares they couldn't even be bothered to make an actual game, instead chasing the latest fad amongst kids but instead of it being free to play it'll be £60 + season pass + microtransactions and loot boxes just to be able to shoot each other the same as we've been able for the last 15 years.
Problem is today that whilst gaming is obviously a business first, many developers still like to make great games first and foremost whilst others such as Activision and EA are only interested in cash
I think we need to see some mature titles on Switch from UBisoft VERY SOON!
Shame for those that wanted it, but the lack of a single player campaign is a no go for me.
Cya
Raziel-chan
No loss for me. Plenty of upcoming games that I intend to throw money at.
Besides, I prefer my FPS games with a mouse, anyway.
The missing campaign softens the blow considerably
@OveDue Exactly Right Cant wait for it on Switch
@diablo2
Nintendo aren't interested in trying to compete with Microsoft and Sony (and the PC). And rightly as that market is sewn. Up. No point.
@roadrunner343
I agree about the development time bring an issue. I just think if there is money to be made from COD on Switch its likely to be remasters with a campaign.
@diablo2
N lost em with the n64 and never recovered. it was bad idea after bad idea (cartridges, tiny dumb discs, stupid waggle, wtf touch controller).
performance wise all they screwed up with was the wii/wii-u but sticking with carts/tiny discs was massively stupid.
i don't put the switch in there since it's a portable (i don't care about the dock and that doesn't absolve the portable internals). the only bad decisions so far are cartridges (give them away to devs) and lack of internal storage (should be 128GB at least). sure there's a litany of fail with online, save games, terribad store UI, lack of dashboard UI upgrades but those aren't due to any inherent issues with the switch; those are just N's stupid internal company issues.
if the switch were an i5/gtx1070 based or something like that then N would get the big games for a time at least. people still see N as kid's gaming so that's a hard view to change. though once they get rid of the 3ds the switch being their only portable should help out. the portables never lacked for games and the switch really doesn't either imo. just don't expect whatever people are calling AAA games on it. i don't think COD is a AAA game so whatever on that one.
They can keep it, with no campaign I'm done with the franchise.
I prefer to just play the older Call of Duty games on Gamecube! hehehheh
@retro_player_22 And this mindset is why third-parties refuse to bring their games over or make Nintendo fanboys jump through hoops or deal with an inferior version.
Why bother to put effort into porting a game if people are going to call your title garbage, and ignore it anyway?
Especially when you can make tons more money off the Playstation.
This is the reason why Nintendo keeps struggling to get third-party developers to support their systems. Why bother when the audience will likely ignore your game anyway?
Fine, maybe you don't like Street Fighter and Final Fantasy. I personally love Street Fighter, including SF IV and V. I would love to see a port of SF V on the Switch, and there are tons of Final Fantasy games out there. Maybe you dislike XV? Well, why not hope we get ports or remakes of the early games?
I found it funny that the trailer they shill for this on Twitch feels like they are directly talking about how Activision sees you as a customer (no one cares about you, you're just a pawn, etc).
Hopefully people have seen it. I giggled a bit at the thought. Fits Activision perfectly.
Oh darn.
I think this is the first time I am glad a game isn't coming to the switch
Who will answer the Campaign of Duty now?
Just don't like COD like I do some other fps, but it's a shame such a big franchise is once again missing on the Switch. I know my son wanted it on the Switch, as did some of his friends at school. I've had coworkers tell me they would buy a Switch just for Black Ops 4, or Dark Souls. That's just my own personal ancedots. I know those examples is not much of an indicator, sales wise, but someone in the world will buy a system even for the worst game.
@Caryslan They're garbage on other platforms too mind you. Hadn't see a Final Fantasy game that impress me since FFX and Street Fighter V is a joke of a stinkfest, ugly graphics, and too many update for what is a lackluster experience. Also I'm not an Nintendo guy, I'm more of a PC player and I can see if a game is garbage by playing it in one hour. After one hour if it doesn't impress me then it's garbage. The Secret of Mana remake is garbage, so was Chrono Trigger mobile port, games like Ni no kuni 2, Cuphead, and Dragon Ball FighterZ are not garbage so don't tell me I can't tell if one is.
Glad it didn't come, so that I could save my money on some other games.
@subpopz @Arcade91 Bethesda was pleased with the sales of their games actually
https://www.resetera.com/threads/bethesda-pleased-with-performance-of-switch-games.37862/
No idea why anyone would think this would come to the Switch when Publishers really have no idea how the Nintendo online service will pan out.
On PS4 they know there are 34 million Plus Subscribers. Until Nintendo starts showing active user numbers - nobody will risk it with expensive FPS online games.
For my first FPS on the Switch I picked up Immortal Redneck and I'm glad I didn't spend more than $20 to trial out an FPS on the Switch. I really don't like it at all. The optimization was poor and playing an FPS in handheld is pretty rough. I love the Switch for almost every other genre of game, but I won't be picking up any FPS on this console in the future.
This is too bad. I’m sad that so many AAA third parties are avoiding switch. I thought that the fact that so many developers have made so much on switch would prompt others to join team Switch
If it's true that their is no Single Player in this Call of Duty then this game will be in the discount cart next year just like what happened to Titan Fall 1. No value in multiplayer only games unless it gets supported for several years.
Most third parties are focused on bigger games, with better graphics and online features to attract players and hook them in. That means that many games can't easily be ported to the Switch without considerable effort or compromise to adapt the engine. So someone like Activision or EA won't bother with their big games because it will cost a lot of time and therefore money that could be dedicated towards milking money on the safe bets. To be honest, as well, I'd be dubious that COD would sell well on a Switch, given that you need a good player base for MP only games and the Switch, as it is now, has a smaller install base.
I think you are more likely to see games like Fortnight that are more adaptable and easier to port (and not necessarily from big publishers). Bethesda seems to be the exception, but then, as I understand it, their engine is a little easier to scale down with. I don't think that means doom and gloom for Switch though, what I hope it means is that they will go the Ubisoft route and do some original games or spin off games.
I’d rather have cod and chips with mushy peas! Although not on my Switch. On a plate.
Could honestly not care less.
Wouldn't have worked on Switch or looked would have looked like poop. If it looked like poop it'd be hard to sight on and shoot and quickly eyeball enemy placement. Switch isn't powerful enough for this, so we shouldn't expect it. If ya want this type of thing: 1) buy a PS4 or Xbox, or 2) try to drum up interest into getting Activision to create an exclusive Switch version of one of the older games or new one only for Switch. That's what we should want anyway, 3rd parties to create games with the Switch in mind, not wish for crappy watered down versions of games they are releasing on other hardware. Otherwise we can look forward to cloud streaming, watered down ports.
Good!
Shocked, I am. Just, shocked. </sarc>
Still....no campaign at all? Boy am I glad I bought Battlefield 1 on a $15 sale last week. Better game, campaign included, and it's actually pretty fun, to boot. The day EA becomes better than Activision is a bleak day for mankind.
Well screw you then Activision, too many good games to play on Switch anyhow. ;P
@diablo2,
I don't think these titles will make or break the Switch's success,Nintendo's games will always push their own hardware.
@BensonUii he’s probably got exams to revise for and is not allowed to play computer games or go on the net 😂
People still play COD?? Lol meh not been good since 3/MW
I am almost certain that Fortnite will come to the Switch.
They have it even running on Mobile now, so the Switch version will be a no brainer.
My guts tell me it will be revealed at E3.
I love call of duty. I might get it on my ps4.
Nintendo usually has the games that interest me at that time if the year though. We'll see soon enough if it's the same this year
expect every other big 3rd party game to skip the switch as well. If Nintendo wants these big 3rd party games, they'll need a traditional console with power and no gimmick.
Idiots
That's a huge shame. I did like cod on the Wii U.
This is old news, we already knew about this last week.
Also: why does anyone care? It's one of the most boring and poopy franchises in the whole industry anway.
In all honesty, who wanted it on Switch? Every time COD is mentioned, Nintendo die hards turn up their noses like someone just pooped on their Wind Waker WiiU.
Not every game will be on Switch just like not every game is on PS4 or PC, that's expected.
But honestly after removing the campaign i lost all the (little) interest i had on the franchise.
Oh wow, a game I'm not interested in isn't coming to the switch, woe is me etc.
That's too bad, The guys at Treyarch usually seem to enjoy flexing their muscles on Nintendo systems, and we know there's an audience.
Day one purchase on the xbox!
Zombie mode will be great as always.
To be honest, it’s focus now on multiplayer, that thing is going to be riddled with micro transactions/loot boxes - not something to look forward to
I bet they pump out a terrible version, ala the vita one, then cry how no one bought it. Shame. I do enjoy the series, but Activision is just dumb in regards to supporting Nintendo and handhelds in general. I am glad it's this one we are not getting though. Blops 4 looks terrible.
@OveDue yeah it runs on every system....poorly.
If this game came to Switch, it would've probably be butchered, or stripped of content, like the Call of Duty games on Wii/Wii U. Plus the game hasn't won me over to begin with.
Nothing of value is lost. COD just isn't that big of a deal anymore.
@BanjoPickles Immortal Redneck is another great FPS on the Switch, and one that seems to get overlooked.
@BigKing 3'rd party doesn't sell on the Switch? Is that why all sorts of 3'rd party developers have been breaking sales records on the Switch?
@electrolite77 It's not even about competing, but rather about providing a more capable console for the consumer's best interest. It's a bit sad that I will have to buy a PS4 or seriously upgrade my PC to play many games. So this goes beyond competition, really; just a bit more power would do wonders.
Pre ordered for Xbox but was upset it's not coming to Switch. My inner 12 year old is dying to play COD zombies in decent form on the go
@johnvboy Oh definitely, but that's kind of my point. Nintendo's consoles have always relied so much on first-party titles for success, when the playing field should be more leveled across first and third parties. But Nintendo never really makes it easy for them.
@diablo2
Power costs money though, which either costs consumers or Nintendo money. And it brings further issues regarding cooling, battery life etc. If all its there for is to service more multiplats of dubious sales potential given their availability elsewhere its not worth it.
@electrolite77 Definitely costs money, thats for sure. But this is why i believe (in my opinion, anyway) that selling at a loss - or at least breaking even for a while - would be a decent move. This would allow Nintendo consoles' reputation to shift over the course of several years and a different kind of audience would gradually come (thanks to more triple-A titles as a result of said power). Think of it as an investment, pretty much.
@JayJ
Third parties breaking sales records on the switch? What are you smoking? Get me some of that good stuff. Although it might be crack.
You must be talking about about some crappy indie title, because games like Doom, FIFA, LA Noire, Skyrim and NBA 2K18 sure as hell aren't breaking any records on the Switch.
@BigKing So now we are just going to ignore the vast majority of 3'rd party developers because they are "indie crap?" You are really sounding like a fanboy.
In any case games have been doing well on the Switch considering how it is a new console with a notably smaller userbase compared to far more established platforms such as the PS4.
That's a shame =(
As much as I don't care for Call of Duty, and this one seems especially worse, it's really bad to say things like 'who cares' & 'good riddance'. Even if you don't plan on getting it, you should still support/hope it coming to the console. Not caring is how you drive off more Third Party game developers.
Can't say I care. I'm only ever interested in Call of Duty if it has a solid single player campaign and when was the last time that happened? This installment doesn't even have one, so yeah, this would be a hard pass.
It's funny because it seems like the people that pretend to care about CoD not coming are the folks that don't even own a Switch and/or don't even buy 3rd party games on Switch anyway.
@diablo2
I just think of it as a worthless investment IMHO . They'd be chasing a market that isn't there, that Sony and MS and the PC have sewn up. There's (strained analogy alert!) more fertile ground to be had in ploughing their own furrow, as long as its with good hardware like the Switch. I think they could have gone after that market 15-20 years ago. Maybe even 12. But that ship has sailed.
@JayJ Yeah, just like you ignore that major third party publishers are never performing well on Nintendo platforms, a lot of times even when the Nintendo installed base is way bigger like on the Wii.
But you were talking about in indie developers when the subject was third party support. Lol, so predictable. Man, those ugly 2D retro platform games are a real alternative for triple A games released on other consoles. CoD, GTA, SF5? Nah, we got Animal Super Squad. Nintendo fans are delusional.
A fanboy? That's you bruah, I own all kinds of consoles, including the Switch. It's not that great. The only games worth getting are the Nintendo games.
@BigKing Well, considering that the install base of Switch is still smaller than PS4 or Xbox One and that publishers like EA, Bethesda or Capcom have publicly said that they are very satisfied with the sales they’re getting on Switch that “third parties never perform well on Nintendo systems” is not very accurate this time.
I’m not accusing you of being a fanboy (I don’t even know you) but you do sound like one, since you only comment to point out how bad Nintendo systems are compared with the competition.
And for Black Ops not coming to Switch, I couldn’t care less since the killing of the single player campaign also killed the game for me. Another game franchise I don’t need to care about ever again.
If I wanted to play cod games i would have bought a PS4.
Who gives a f=€%........
I am not exactly disappointed. I would much rather a port of COD 4 Modern Warfare, or MW2. Or at least a game in that style of real-world , modern day inspired FPS with a campaign and solid multiplayer experience.
The Battle Royale thing really hasn't caught my interest yet.
@maruse Then tell me what I'm a fanboy of? I couldn't care less about any company. People who defend companies that aren't paying them are nuts.
And since when are PR talks a thing to go by? Holy christ, just look at the sales on any Nintendo platform. Even on the Switch, just compare the sales of a random old Nintendo Wii U port to those of a third party title. I remember third parties being 'very satisfied' with the Wii U and Nintendo around that time. Of course they were... It's almost like they're trying to sell their products...
most likely its because switch doesnt have a proper online service yet which wont be out till this fall even though bo4 looks like cash grab by removing campaign and making it more online only with battle royal bs.
Meh. No craps given here. Especially considering the lack of a campaign mode, the only thing I’ve ever liked about the series.
Bethesda thanks them for this decision. More chances to sell doom and wolfenstein
screams in sarcasm
