It was only going to be a matter of time until a musical prodigy took to YouTube to show the world how to rock the cardboard Piano Toy-Con from the entertaining package that is Nintendo Labo: Toy-Con 01 - Variety Kit.
Here's Japanese musician Geniway treating us to a rendition of Splatoon music using Labo's clever software and cardboard interface:
If that wasn't impressive enough, be sure to check out his Final Fantasy XIII tribute:
Colour us impressed. We look forward to a day in the future where we have even more Nintendo Labo musical instruments and musical maestros can get a whole concerto going. Share your thoughts on this musical escapade below...

Hot damn, that is insanely cool. Seriously considering picking up a kit now
That is really cool, still doesn't tempt me to get Labo though.
@Jacob1092 I love that avatar, makes me smile everytime I see it.
Wow !
But, any method to extend the recording for more than 1 minute ?
@Anti-Matter
There's a jack plugged in on the video so I'm pretty sure he recorded externally.
Nice. Amazing how 7 notes of a c scale can make so much music along with background music and drums all together like it’s pre recorded and not fully live.
Final Fantasy XIII on Switch confirmed. :3 But seriously, this is awesome.
@nhSnork if only, I'd sell my left nut for that!
@1UP_MARIO I guess in theory with enough Labo kits you could get a band together and play it live
Madness!
@chardir you can even have an orchestra. But I’m refering to the video shown has one labo
Might get this! I wonder if there are more tones available than the cartoony ones demonstrated. As a side note, this would make for a hilarious midi controller.
@1UP_MARIO Yeah, I was just being generous. The video is an excellent demo of what you can do with a good edit suite. Labo is really only providing a few sound effects.
LABO Piano + KORG =
@chardir yes, you can.
@1UP_MARIO The Labo piano has several octaves.
You step up sudden instantly with the control lever on the left.
@cfgk24 I know that. It’s just difficult to master
that is stupid,,,,i want to see how it sounds playing live not just like audio mixed and mastered together
Nintendo labo is not is just the your a dumb butt.
Dang sweet one-minute edits, and building a launchpad in the Garage is pretty ingenious.
@Alexprime
...what?
You can do that in Far Cry 5.
Wow, sounds like poo, but I suppose it's awesome 'cause it's Nintendo Cardbo.
Cya
Raziel-chan
@Jacob1092 Your avatar is awesome!
@JTMnM there are only 5 tones built in(piano, cat, choir, old man, HD rumble) but using a waveform card you can generate custom tones.
I think it’s cheating to record separate video/audio tracks and then remix everything in an editing suite. You should be able to do everything within the Labo DAW
Can someone play some jim steinman music
@AG_Awesome That would rule!!
Also waiting for someone to bust out Foreplay/Long Time by Boston
@AG_Awesome someone reproducing the piano demo of What Part Of My Body Hurts The Most <3
Pray Lewd would be a challenge though, imagine the paper cuts
@SpeedRunRocks Hahaha. We need some classic 70s and 80s piano based rock anthems!!
@D33K0 LOL!!!!! I wonder if someone can even hit the keys quickly enough to do pray lewd on cardboard...
I’d love to hear body or even not allowed to love. Especially with the Bat musical making waves, perfect time for some dual advertising of Labo and Steinman!
@AG_Awesome a slow, almost haunting rendition of Surf's Up should be doable..... might make a suggestion somewhere in the Steinverse
@D33K0. Hahaha. But we need to find someone in the verse that is a gamer, a musician, has a switch, and has the piano Labo kit. That may be more unlikely than finding a fellow Steinman fan on random Nintendo life comment section. Lol.
