Sony's PS4 epic God of War remains the UK's top-selling video game for a fourth week, but Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on Switch proves it has some staying power, too - it's been able to cling onto second place for a second week.
That's pretty impressive stuff when you consider that the game is a re-release of an existing Wii U title. It may have only been on the shelves for two weeks, but the Switch port of Tropical Freeze now accounts for a quarter of all copies sold in the UK so far.
It's a little worrying that Donkey Kong's re-heated adventure has sold more copies than both Nintendo Labo packs combined, though; the Variety Pack has plunged to No.27, while the Robot pack has vanished from the top 40 entirely (although it remains at No.14 in the Switch charts). Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to sell well, dropping a single place to No.6 this week.
Here's the top ten:
- God of War (PS4)
- Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Switch)
- Far Cry 5 (Multi)
- FIFA 18 (Multi)
- Fallout 4 (Multi)
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)
- Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 (Multi)
- Assassin's Creed Origins (Multi)
- Grand Theft Auto V (Multi)
- Destiny 2 (Multi)

Wii u games are gold when marketed right
Impressive and glad its selling well. However, not surprising as retail releases have been thin on the ground recently.
@1UP_MARIO Wii U titles are gold when released on a console people care about.
@kobashi100 people buy consoles if it has good games too
DKC TF was sold out on Amazon UK leading up to its release so looks like there was a lot of people who couldn't get it the first week.
Either way the game is fantastic and deserves the sales!
@1UP_MARIO
Dreamcast and WiiU say hello 😋
I don't know how much money Nintendo dumped into Labo - I hope it wasn't too much - but I can't say I am surprised. I can tell you, I haven't heard a single one of my students mention Labo and I teach in Japan. I did not expect it to do very well. At best it seemed like a gimmick to appeal to parents who want to buy their kid a game that seems mildly educational. Or for parents who don't feel comfortable with their kids playing "violent" games. The key being, it seemed like a game parents would buy for kids. Not something many kids would ask for.
@Heavyarms55 yeah, personally I think it’s a decent product for the niche that it’s for(not for me). Hopefully it was thought of as a niche product in its production budget and is at least making some profit. If Nintendo really thought this was gonna be the ‘next big thing’ then I’d be surprised
@Fandabidozi both great consoles with great library of gsmes

"Wii u games are gold when released on a system that people want, that gets games quickly and is marketed right"
Fixed.
@electrolite77 thanks. Worded much better 👍🏻
Played Tropical Freeze, it really did deserve those sales and i am glad that it is getting the reception it deserved.
So how is God of War? I was a fan, though i think the formula got old and Krato just seemed to never change, always being that angry god.
@Heavyarms55 I was not keen on it personally but my son was absolutely adamant he wanted that Robot Kit, he's been so excited for weeks, and we started it weekend past and had a great time. We are halfway through, Step 4 of 8 and he's buzzing.
I think Labo will pick up again around Christmas or when they drop a cool new Nintendo themed set that works with Garage. As a kid I only got educational play sets (like LEGO Mindstorms) at Christmas or a birthday.
I still play, build and work with my Variety kit and I don't agree it isn't educational or fun, people have no idea how awesome Labo is until they get their hands on it (and that is a kinda a problem but Nintendo can fix that.) At least they are still marketing it cause I see Labo commercials all the time.
People buy great games.
DKC Tropical Freeze is an immaculate game. Word of mouth is selling it in droves. Enough people regard it as one of the best (if not the best) 2D platformers of all time. And people are in tune to that.
Hopefully they will cancel any other cardboard trash
Tropical Freeze Switch sales only dropped 32% over its 2nd week, which is an unusually small 1st-to-2nd week sales decline, especially for a port of a 2D sidescroller.
In fact, Tropical Freeze on Switch sold more during its 2nd week than Tropical Freeze on Wii U sold during its launch week.
@Heavyarms55
There's nothing wrong with that though. It's all strings to the Switch's bow and Labo is one that might just help a few kids get their hands on a Switch this Christmas.
"No really, it's educational, look!" and so forth.
Rather than be like "Oh another Wii U port", maybe we should look forward to the fact that the game being a hot seller might mean another DKCR style game will be put into production sooner rather than later....
.....that or a HD port of Returns., XD
lol labo
@gatorboi352 Nothing on DKC there?
"It's a little worrying that Donkey Kong's re-heated adventure has sold more copies than both Nintendo Labo packs combined, though"
If the message is "make more Donkey Kong instead of stuff like Labo", I'd say it's the exact opposite of worrying.
@YummyHappyPills i mean what else are switch owners going to buy? Labo?
@ricklongo I'm pretty sure another DK game at this juncture would not be received very well among switch owners. Just my take though.
