City Connection is updating Success' classic shooter Psyvariar for the Switch and PS4, and has just released a new trailer which shows the game in action.
Psyvariar Delta - which features a "Buzz" system where you power up your ship by flying as close to projectiles as possible without dying - launches in Japan on August 30th.

Will you be importing this one?

If Japan is getting a physical I plan to import.
SOLD!
Is it unusual to dislike those narrow screens in bullet hell type games? They really put me off. Maybe I just prefer horizontal to vertical shmups (though vertical feels much more natural for bullet hell), but I always feel like I'm playing a third of a game with those narrow ones.
@SmaggTheSmug I fully agree. I never really liked the vertical ones. Seems they weren't designed to take advantage of the common landscape format of TVs and are more for those who are nostalgic for arcades.
Do not watch the trailer if you suffer from travel sickness...
@FX102A
A physical limited edition has already been confirmed for Japan, from what i understand it comes with a sountrack download and a sticker.
It should be noted that City Connection's other Switch games both got physical western releases from Dispatch Games (Soldam and soon Penguin Wars).
@Dualmask @SmaggTheSmug It feels vertical is more of a tradition at this point. You can also blame devs for not desiging their games horizontal. Or maybe it's because horizontal traditionally doesn't sell well? But as for me, I don't mind the wasted space, it keeps me focused on the action.
Okay, I love shmups but seriously, can we get a full screen, vertical-scrolling, spanking brand new release?!?
@EmirParkreiner I believe I read today that Penguin Wars is a code in a box.
Psyvariar? I think I remember playing this one on the Dreamcast.
@bluedogrulez There's Strania, but it's a few years old.
Looks cool! I'm really into Danmaku Unlimited 3 at the minute and this looks like it's right up my street.
@FX102A
You must have misread that.
The limited "Launch Edition" of Penguin Wars comes with a download code for the sountrack.
The game itself is physical in both the "Launch" and regular retail versions.
On a sidenote, i missed some details about the physical release of Psyvariar Delta in Japan. Actually, there are THREE physical versions: Regular (game), Limited (game, sticker, soundtrack download), Sound Box (game, sticker, sountrack download, soundtrack CD).
@bluedogrulez
RXN -Raijin- (from Gulti, who made the Raiden Fighters Aces collection on 360 and co-developed Mamorukun Curse with GRev) came out exclusively on the Switch last December, and it's a "full screen, vertical-scrolling, spanking brand new release":

@MasterLeon: Thanks, I missed that one somehow.
@EmirParkreiner: Yeah, I debated RXN Raijin for some time due to that $38 price tag. Then I heard it disappeared from the eShop (which may have only been in Europe).
I couldn’t even watch the full trailer ... I must be officially old!
I’d be surprised if this didn’t come West. Hope it does!! 😃
WOW!
@wasilewski I was just thinking, "ah ok. so this is where Danmaku Unlimited 3 got the graze system from."
Game has been fun, but I'm unusally bad at it for some reason.
@masterLEON There wouldnt intentionally be wasted space as it was obviously designed for a vertical aspect arcade monitor. Thios is an arcade port.
@Platinumhobo you gotta stick at it! I was awful at the start because I’m so used to playing shmups by completely dodging bullets and Danmaku, as you know, requires you to graze against them for extra points. It’s a completely different mechanic from what I was used to.
@wasilewski Thanks mate, I am gonna stick at it. Eventually gonna beat it on True difficulty!
