2018 is already shaping up to be a very good second year for Nintendo Switch, with the likes of Shovel Knight: King Of Cards making their way onto the eShop in the coming months. The final campaign in the Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove saga casts you as King Knight, the gilded goon himself, in what promises to be a fine end to Yacht Club Games current saga.
The team over at GameXplain recently visited PAX East 2018 in Boston, and captured seven minutes of off-screen footage from the upcoming release. If you're a fan of the series - or just love pixel-happy platforming throwbacks - you'll certainly enjoy seeing how the regal baddie sets himself apart from Specter Knight and Plague Knight.
Be sure to share your thoughts on the game below, and whether or not you'll be adding this final campaign to your growing digital library...

Still no release date... They said in early 2018.
And I still have yet to finish even Shovel of Hope campaign on either system... The game is harder than it looks and I think I'm not as persistent as I was a few years ago. But those extra campaigns may push me to get to it. That shovel-wielding Chaos Warrior on my desk is taunting me to do so.
Also a Shovel Knight themed Smash Bros-style fighting game when? Or a party game collection? Knights were known for their affinity for tournaments...
@SmaggTheSmug Should have prepared yourself with years of Ducktales NES training.
@SmaggTheSmug Also I remember Shovel Knight was added to an Indie Smash Brothers style game a while back but i'm blanking on the name of it. It was basically an Indie Super Smash Brothers with a ton of indie characters.
Just like Dark Souls.
@SmaggTheSmug The next update after this expansion is the Battle Mode. I think that might be just what you’re looking for.
@patbacknitro18 You're probably thinking of Runbow. That's not exactly "Smash-style", but it does have a battle mode and a ton of Indie characters.
Anything Shovel Knight related will be added to my library. What a brilliant game.
Still intending to buy the complete collection eventually, never played a Shovel Knight game before but it looks like a lot of fun.
@imgrowinglegs That does indeed sound like it.
Now there also needs to be a Shovel Knight board game (preferably one with miniatures, like Aristeia) and maybe a cartoon I'll be super happy
Waiting for this to come out so YachtClubGames has no more excuses not to release a PHYSICAL VERSION for treasure trove...
@SegaBlueSky "Treasure Trove" is basically the complete edition. IIRC all those other campaigns are automatically added to it for free.
@SmaggTheSmug Yeah, that's the one I meant but forgot the name! It's on my wishlist, just hoping for a sale at a time when I can justify a new game.
Preordered the Treasure Trove amiibo in December... Kinda would like to know when those are coming out...
So waiting for this to release!!
Now I wish I hadn't bought Treasure Trove for 3DS, as I no longer have that system. I really like Shovel Knight and all that it entails, but I don't know if I want to buy it full price again for Switch.
So psyched to finally play this, love this title and its amazing everything they have done with it . Looking forward to getting those amiibo as well.
Hoping it still comes to the Wii U!
I just want the amiibo release date.
@SmaggTheSmug Yacht Club said they want Shovel Knoght everywhere, just like Mario: in their games, on their cereal, on their everything. So a cartoon isn't completely improbable!! 😄
@improviser I'm sure as heck it is. Did Specter of Torment make it to Wii U? (I'm legit asking, I have no idea. I know it's on 3DS.)
@MH4, all treasure trove dlc is on the Wii u
Very excited for this! Any word on physical?
It looks fun but I doubt it will top "Specter of Torment." Bring on Shovel Knight 2!
I bought the 3DS original early and got all the updates for free. Will this be free as well?!
@ga3tr0n Yacht Club said all DLC will be free! 😊
@ekwcll Sweet, thanks for that info!
@MH4 Cool! Thanks. That is amazing, really. How do they make money? Was S.K. such a success?
@ga3tr0n I don't know what kind of numbers they needed, but it looks like Shovel Knight was a huge success for them. Yacht Club did a blog post two years ago about their sales when they passed 1 million units sold, which is a good number. They revealed their average monthly sales were 25,000-35,000. Looks like the game has done very well for them. And just keeping their promise to do the free DLC will serve them well in the long term. It's worth noting that they restructured the way they sell the game, branding the full game as Treasure Trove and now selling the individual campaigns for those who don't want the whole thing.
@ga3tr0n Shovel Knight is very successful. Like, really very successful (is that a sentence? 😂).
The DLC was all promised as Kickstarter stretch goals, all promised as free from the very start. I guess it technically isn't free since it was stretch goals, but still.
Yacht Club still profits off of game sales, merchandise (amiibo, shirts, etc.), so I think they're set.
Free DLC is always amazing. ARMS, Splatoon, Shovel Knight... All amazing examples of DLC done right.
@MH4 Nintendo is definitely making the right moves this (sort-of) gen. All of the free DLC with ARMS, Splatoon, Xenoblade, Mario Odyssey, and almost every other game that's come out so far are such treats!
I've always loved Nintendo.
Looking forward to the final game I play for my 3DS, then it's retired as a gaming system for me.
Yeah, physical edition is what I need to get me to double-dip on this. The ability to share it around switch between switches. Plus an actual box with the actual instruction book in there would be great... though I do have the original printed out around here somewhere.
@SlimFreakinFast I agree with literally everything you just said. And the paid DLC always feels worth it, with Mario Kart 8 and Zelda BotW being notable examples, and I even feel confident with my preorder of the Octo Expansion! Nintendo has us spoiled rotten.
@SlimFreakinFast "I've always loved Nintendo."
And me too also as well. (Sorry for two separate comments 😅)
@MH4 no worries! I'm definitely enjoying the games that they have to offer on Switch. As a guy who did not own a Wii-U, the fact that they would port those games over to a popular console to get the proper recognition that they deserve just shows that Nintendo REALLY cares about their products
@SlimFreakinFast As someone who did/does own a Wii U, I'm grateful for a chance to double dip and get back into games I love anywhere, as well as being able to play games I skipped originally.
@MH4 Definitely! I've double-dipped on games for the same reason! I already own Binding of Isaac, Shovel Knight, and the orignal Bayonetta on Xbox One but never play that thing anymore, instead playing mainly on Switch and 3DS.
@SlimFreakinFast I double dipped on Pokkén Tournament, Mario Kart 8, Shovel Knight, and Minecraft for Switch. I find myself playing them more often than I expected. I plan to buy the port of Captain Toad when it releases so I can finally finish the game!
Gotta love ports. They make companies money, they're not very expensive to make, and they let players choose where they play their games. It's a win-win!
I'm personally hoping they port games from consoles even further back. An HD remaster of either Wario Land: Shake It! or Kirby's Epic Yarn is what I dream of, and I personally hope the Switch's Animal Crossing is an HD version of New Leaf: Welcome amiibo with a crap-ton of content added, just because that game is so good. What do you want ported to Switch??
@MH4 I. WOULD. LOVE. WarioWare on Switch. WarioWare > Mario Party. Or even a big ol' remaster of Rhythm Heaven Megamix or something. I would also enjoy the Wii-U games that I never got to play, like Xenoblade X, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Star Fox Zero (don't care if it's bad or not, i just love Star Fox), the Metroid Prime trilogy, Kirby's Epic Yarn would be fantastic, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD or pretty much anything. I can't say that there is a Nintendo game or franchise that I don't like.
I would even enjoy Super Mario Maker or Chibi-Robo, if they could even make those work.
@patbacknitro18 Do you mean Indie Pogo?
@Dualmask if it helps think of it like this. At $25 you're getting 4 full length games. That averages to $6.25 per title. In comparison buying 4 metal slug games on switch comes out to $32 ($24 If you buy 1,x, and 3 since ; is an improved version of 2)
@NinjaAceTrainer That's the one
@Mach_Rider Not Runbow lol. Just found out what I was thinking of was Indie Pogo.
@patbacknitro18 Im pretty sure its called indiepogo, Im not sure if its out yet though.
Doesn't this take extremely long? When did we see the first teaser, last E3? They said it would be released this February. Now its almost E3 again! Needless to say, I want to play it.
