Indie developer Monster Couch has confirmed that Die for Valhalla! will hit the Switch eShop on May 29th. Pre-loading is already live in Australia and should (fingers crossed) be hitting other regions shortly. We assume the release date will be the same in North America and Europe, too.
Described as an action RPG with arcade beat 'em up trimmings, Die for Valhalla! places you in the role of a mythical Valkyrie, blessed with the power to bring fallen viking warriors back to life. Solo and 4-player options are available, and the game will feature over 80 different skills to select when levelling-up your character.
Here's some PR:
Die for Valhalla! is an action RPG where you hack, slash and crush your enemies! Possess and take full control of heroes, monsters and other things to help Vikings save their realm!
You are a Valkyrie, a supernatural maiden bestowed with the ability to possess fallen warriors. You embark on a quest that will lead you through strange lands where Norse Mythology collides with Lovecraftian mythos. Sounds Weird? Well, because it is!
You can play solo or locally with friends (up to 4 players).
Key features
– An action-packed hybrid of Roguelike and arcade Beat ‘Em Up.
– Unique Possession mechanic.
– More than 10 Viking Clans to discover and unlock
– Each of the 7 Viking Classes comes with unique playstyles and combos.
– Over 80 skills to choose from when leveling up your Valkyrie.
– Cute but bloodthirsty creatures will become your companions.
– Play against your friends in Deathmatch and Survival modes.
– And more!

I'm a sucker for Viking stuff. Will probably grab this if it turns out good. Art is reminding me of Kleis Dont Starve too. Which isn't a bad thing.
This sounded right up my street and I got all excited... then I saw the word ‘roguelike’.
It is my considered opinion that algorithms will not match a developer’s own touches where level design is concerned, not until the machines rise up anyway. So by the time I actually want to play a roguelike, I’ll be enslaved by the Master AI and a bit too busy for videogames.
Valhalla? You don’t say
Looks fun and funny
Gotta agree with Balladeer, the roguelike part kills it for me.
Reminds me of Castle Crashers. Interested, but will need to wait for a review on this one.
Please Bring PUBG on Switch
Marionette animation = no thanks
I've been really enjoying all the Roguelikes on the Switch and this game looks pretty interesting. Not sold yet but interested to hear some opinions.
@Balladeer I understand and respect the opinion - For example, I found SteamWorld Dig 2 to be a much better game than SteamWorld Dig 1. However, there is still a great deal of design and care put into the algorithms that generate Roguelike stages. And of course, the best Roguelikes in my opinion, are the ones that use combinations of handcrafted rooms/set pieces along with randomly generated content. Still, I understand it's not your cup of tea.
Looks fun, I may pick it up if the price is right.
@roadrunner343 I appreciate the respect! Fair enough to those who like them, it’s just not my cup of tea. Which makes the apparent surge of them in downloadable games a bit irritating. Thank goodness for Image & Form going the other way, I suppose!
One look at the graphics and I knew it was an indie game. Ugly as sin and also roguelike, no thanks.
looks like Castle Crashers
if its a Roguelike I probably will pass. I don't really enjoy that genre
"Unique Possession mechanic"? Uh, yeah . . . I've never seen a videogame that had some sort of possession mechanic, no sirree.
Unpopular opinion, but roguelike seals the deal for me.
Isaac, EtG, Flinthook, Steredenn, Bombslinger, Neurovoider and now Rogue aces... my switch is a damn gaming paradise.
Looks fun but the art style isn’t my favorite
Reminds me about that game with the Kelts, but that one looked stronger.
