We're quite fond of Monopoly Gamer Edition; this collaboration between Hasbro and Nintendo was more than just a simple skinned Monopoly board. It was a fresh Mario Party-esque take on the classic property trading game, with a splash of Nintendo's most iconic IP.
It looks like the upcoming Monopoly Gamer: Mario Kart Edition will continue in this trend as you race around the board throwing shells and dropping banana peels at each other in order to collect coins.
Of course, the famous Monopoly properties such as Mayfair and Park Lane (hey, we are British!) are out... and the slightly more fantastical Rainbow Road and Bowser's Castle take their place.
This reimagined board game also features a racing element, so when players pass Go, a race will be triggered where players complete to win a coveted Grand Prix card.
Monopoly Gamer: Mario Kart Edition will include four playable racers: Mario, Princess Peach, Luigi and Toad. At a later date a Power Pack add-on will be released (yup, that's right. DLC for board games!)... which will introduce Bowser, Rosalina, Shy Guy, Metal Mario, Donkey Kong and Yoshi as new characters which you can play.
You can pick up Monopoly Gamer: Mario Kart Edition in GameStop in the U.S. now, and it will be rolling out to the usual online retailers and other stores later this Summer. No news on a UK release yet.

I got Monopoly Gamer as a Christmas present so that's enough for me. Mario Kart Edition doesn't seem to differ in any meaningful way.
That's the coolest Monopoly set I've ever seen . . . but color me surprised that the first one did well enough to warrant a second.
No Pink Gold Peach! YES!!! Thank you, Hasbro!
Eh Caylus ! Help me getting out of this Monopoly plague !!!!!!
The prevalence of Monopoly makes me almost physically sick... How did this awful game even get that popular in the first place. Not to mention everyone plays it wrong which prolongs the miserable experience.
Sorry, as someone who plays tabletop games aside from video ones I just can't stand anything associated with Monopoly, Mario themed or not. IIRC the original game wasn't even properly made, as it was a rip-off of a previous game (The Landlord's Game), but released with half the rules or so. And even then it was originally rejected by publishers.
Now bring Neuroshima Hex or Blood Bowl to Switch! Make them fluffy and cutesy if you must, but those at least run on well made (enough) rules. And both have digital adaptations already!
Getting this. My youngest son lost some of my oldest pieces from the first one. Plus this looks too cool to pass up.
No Waluigi 0/10 worst game ever.
Why bother when the set isn't even complete?
I just happened to be sitting here looking at our pile of Monopoly game boxes - Dr. Who Villains, Gamer and Pokémon - when this came up. So yeah, we'll probably get this, it's one of the things we collect. Probably as a birthday or Christmas gift as no one is graduating from anything this year. And we'll play it 2 or 3 times like the others.
Gamer Monopoly is the most different of the bunch, a little more interesting and shorter. This one sounds fun.
Oh my glob.... WANT! Picks up Community ? Block card 'You've won first prize in the Mushroom Kingdom beauty contest - Blue shell every other oponent & collect $10'
I still want the original Mario Gamer Monopoly as well but over here they don't sell the collector's edition nor the Power Pack add-ons...
The first Gamer is a lot of fun (even for us adults) and great for quicker games. I can't tell you how many times we played during the holidays. This one looks like it could be just as much fun.
I am done with themed board games. They are either just as fun as the original or less so.
For all the poor souls who still haven't cottoned on to Catan as a much better family/friend board game...
1st 1 is a great version of Monopoly......not sure if this is different enough to warrent a purchase but as much fun as we have had as a family with gamer, I am definitely interested
The fact that the boxart renders come from 4 separate Mario Kart games bothers ne
This may not be News about the Announcement of the Next Official Mario Kart game for the Switch, but I certainly do like the looks of a Mario Kart themed Board Game.
@TF-Warrior One of these years we deserve an Explanation as to why Metal Mario and Pink Gold Peach were brought into the roster. Hopefully no new Metallic Copies beyond them will be introduced in later installments, but Different forms of Mario Power Ups as DLC with Future Mario Kart games is possible alongside Different Additional Nintendo Characters.
@SmaggTheSmug As someone who collected a bunch of different monopoly boards but had a hard time finishing a game, the “gamer” variant does a better job at both simplifying and making things faster, and the individual character powers is a great introduction to more strategic games out there.
Hoping for more than just Mario themes in the future though.
The original writeup @SM4SHshorts did was great. While convincing, I never did end up getting the first one, so if this is exactly the same but just themed Mario Kart, count me in!
@ItalianBaptist Monopoly is actually much simpler than it appears – it's just badly designed and not fun. Hopefully this version fixes a lot of its problems, but I'm still leery of the brand itself.
I just picked mine up this morning, looks like I'll be passing on the extra characters this time around.
I get really excited when I see Monopoly games themed after things I love. And then I remember how completely mundane the actual game is and decide to pass. No thanks.
Have never heard of the Monopoly gamer series but am excited to try both these out. They look great fun. Any chance of a Switch compilation of these and other Monopoly games bundled together?? I hope so
Could they release this and other Nintendo themed board for the Monopoly Switch game? I'd love that! It's hard to get people to play Monopoly with me, I often feel like I am in an extreme minority for liking the game...
@Lizuka Just wait for Super Mario Diplomacy.
Gonna get this and put it right next to my Super Mario Monopoly board game
MUST BE MINE!!!!!!!
@DarthNocturnal It is basically the same but instead of "Boss" battles when you pass go you do a race. People pay to race then roll the dice to see who won. Then you get certain rewards for each race. The rest of the play is similar but now you can throw a banana coin down to force someone to land on a space you passed, like a property you own. We had lots of fun playing it.
