Now we've all had time to play around with Super Mario Odyssey's moveset, we thought it was about time we gathered some of the ludicrous things you lovely people have been doing with it. Using the hashtag #MarioMegaJump on Twitter we've been inundated by you all with exceptional feats of Mario marvellousness, and it's all been distilled into the audio-visual format most fitting of it.
Make sure you give the video above a watch, as it's really not something that comes across well as a written essay. Trust us.
And remember, you can still get involved by sharing your crazy stunts on Twitter using the hashtag #MarioMegaJump! Who knows, you may end up in a similar video in the near future.

I've done some stuff by accident and was like "Wha, I... uh, ok cool" when I did it lol! I honestly haven't thought about trickin' it out like this video, but I will start to take a few more chances now
@Tanooki-Time yes?
I didn't get video of it, but I made a really long jump between the tops of two buildings that were pretty far apart in New Donk City. One of the buildings has a ground pound switch on it that creates a timed walkway with a moon on it. The other building has three characters from Lake Kingdom on it.
And the last jump was the best jump. Love it
Those were all outstanding, aside from WolfyWardark's, because to be honest that's actually the intended solution for that moon.
@Kalmaro I just figured that’s what I would say if I ever had the first comment, haha.
@Tanooki-Time Haha, I'm perfectly fine with my name meaning "First".
I see this is what happens when I take a break.
WTH
Well if it's not that hard to pull off when Mario Odyssey basically turned cheating into a feature.
Just further proof that this game is the opposite of challenging.
I mean come on, you get a lot of moons for just speaking to NPCs. Hitting 'A' and skipping text is not a challenge.
I''m glad to see two fellow italians among all those players.
@shani That's not cheating. They made an easy path for newcomers and a harder shortcut for more advanced players. Most of enemies capture are used for that same purpose, avoid platforming if you want to.
It's not that difficult, but that goes for 64/SS/Galaxy too. If you think not, try playing them again...
The reward for the harder challenges is completely worthless when you can you can get one ground pounding, so I can understand those who want the sensation of rewarding being disappointed, but the game is about playing around not that sensation.
And the mindless moons are there so players doing small sessions accomplish something while in the path to harder ones. There's a psychological effect in doing absolutely zero progress.
@RennanNT I was referring to the hat throw mechanic where you can extend your jumps infinitely. That's basically flying and in a platformer, that equals cheating for me.
The same goes for this new mechanic where you can jump higher after a ground pound. It makes absolutely no sense (the ground pound has a downwards trajectory, not an upwards one) and is just another mechanic to make the game easier.
M64 and MG1 were easy enough in the first half of the game - MG2 was better in that regard - but Odyssey is just so much more easier that it takes the fun out of playing the game.
What good is a platformer if there is no challenge? I mean, coordinating your movement is the key element in every platformer, after all...
And those small session moons feel absolutely worthless because of the little effort you have to put in. The also constantly interrupt your gaming experience.
I definitely prefer playing a long level where it takes you at least 30 minutes or even hours until you receive a reward, which also marks the end of your playthrough.
Not only can you enjoy the level without interruptions that way but the reward also feels so much better.
For the most amazing of all jumps, cappy will say something special to Mario! Won't say what it is but will submit my vid to show the world
@shani sorry for the super late reply...
The throw mechanic cannot be used indefinitely. Once you're in the air, you can step on it once and do a dive at most.
The ground pound jump make more sense than somersault. Legs are used like springs to bounce Mario upward, similar to the backflip or triple jump. On the other hand, somersault shouldn't be higher than a normal jump upward...
IMO, the platforming is harder in Odyssey than SS and SMG (the ones I've played recently), although they give ways to skip most of it using Cappy if you want to. To each their own I guess...
I can't ever seem to land on the cap when I dive in mid-air. Am I doing something wrong?
@RennanNT Ah thanks for clearing that up! In some videos (or even in this one) it seemed like you could just chain the hat-throw-dive movements as often as you want, happy to hear that's not the case.
Hm, never thought of it that way, but I guess you've got a point about the ground pound and the somersault (although intuitively that one always felt 'right'). Although if real life physics were applied, the ground pound jump would probably break Mario's legs. ^^
But let's not think too much about real life physics.
After only five hours of playtime I'm already at the Luncheon Kingdom. I guess I will have the regular game finished after a total of 7-8 hours, which is ridiculous compared to the regular playtime of M64, MG or MG2.
So far I neither felt challenged nor did I like the world design in general. It just feels very lazy and uninspired (also don't like the art style, the NPCs and those rabbits, but I guess that's debatable).
There was only one part of the Lost Kingdom that was actually challenging (or maybe I was just too tired, it was very late) and that was the area with the wood pegs in the poisonous water. Although even that part was really unimaginative, in previous games they would've found a more elegant and purposeful way to pose such a challenge.
I'll still continue playing it because I hope the Dark Side and Darker Side (wow, really? They couldn't come up with better ideas?) are more challenging. But to be honest, with every new world I discover I'm a little bit more disappointed. Previously I'd given this game a 8/10 (whereas MG2 is a 10/10 for me) but by now it feels more and more like a 7/10...
Not trying to sound smug or elitist, but I wasn't impressed by most of these jumps and have actually pulled quite a few of these off myself. 2:06 in particular is exactly how I got the moon and I'm 90% certain that's how you're supposed to get it anyway.
Besides, the later challenge sections you encounter post-game pretty much require you to be able to do things like roll indefinitely, triple jump flawlessly, etc. I was expecting something more along the lines of the crazy stunts I've seen in Mario 64, but most of these in the video aren't really spectacular. I've pulled off the majority of these "feats" without trying. The only one I felt was that impressive is the one at 3:30, which is quite good. I kept trying to pull that jump off and gave up. That and 4:24 are probably the best ones.
