Sumo Digital's slithery physics platformer Snake Pass was a unexpected delight when we reviewed it back in March with solid visuals, unconventional gameplay, a memorable soundtrack and a decent amount of replay value.
While Sumo quickly rolled out a patch after launch to improve the rumble effect in the game, the UK developer will settle for nothing less than perfection and a update has been rolled out today which adds time trials and online leaderboards, allowing players to challenge each other to see who is the best snake charmer of them all.
You should find the update ready next time you boot the game on your Switch. There are a few other bits and bobs which have been improved also, as detailed below:
- TIME TRIAL AND LEADERBOARDS: Time Trial mode is now available for Nintendo Switch players. Battle it out against friends to see who can make it to the top of the leader boards with the quickest time
- TAIL GRAB: fixed a bug where Tail Grab was unreliable
- TIME TRIAL: fixed a TT exploit where players could get a time of zero
- TIME TRIAL: fixed an issue in Time Trial where some players could not complete the level
- TIME TRIAL: fixed an issue in Time Trial that prevented the timer from not displaying correctly
- LEVEL 11: fixed an issue where the ball would activate incorrectly for some players
- QUETZALCOATL ACHIEVEMENT: fixed an issue with Quetzalcoatl not triggering correctly for some players. If players have previously reached the requirements, playing a level without dying again should trigger the achievement.
- FLOOR IS MOLTEN ROCK ACHIEVEMENT: The Floor Is Molten Rock achievement now triggers correctly
- CAMERA: fixed an issue where the camera did not move as fast as intended
- LEVEL 9: fixed an issue where the camera would not move for some players making the level unplayable
- TAIL GRAB: fixed an issue where Noodle would move faster than intended while Doodle was holding his tail
- GAME ICONS: all platforms have updated game icons

Just downloaded it now. Gonna give it a try! Must be quite a decent sized update. Really glad to see them supporting the game.
Cool! I bought it but haven't played it as much as I would like (Zelda and things).
Nice to see ongoing support
This slithered in out of nowhere! I hope they do a retail release some day
Most of these improvements are irrelevant to Switch users. We did not have Time Trials until today, so you cannot call anything related to that a fix from our perspective, and achievements are not a part of the game on Switch, so you can remove those as well.
@Dazza Now tell me if you see lots more after that
Great game. If only they'd patch the undocked resolution...
NBA Playgrounds, which is also a UE4 game, will be patched bumping the res.
Fair play to them for continuing to support the game.
I didn't pass on the snake.
I'm yet to play it but I downloaded it ages ago.
Glad to hear my play through will be smoother than a snakeskin.
Oh no, they broke the rumble again. It's so loud after the update.
@KoopaTheGamer Oh no, really? You'd think someone would have noticed the regression before submitting the patch!
Still, fixing the camera sensitivity is a big win for me, it was slow as molasses before and often got me killed because I couldn't move it fast enough to see where Noodle was positioned.
Good to see this game has legs...err...
I've been stuck on the first lava level for months because of a camera issue. Maybe I can finally return! I messaged them several times through email, Twitter, and I think facebook but never heard anything back.
I'll have to pass if they didn't fix the inverted camera, as it is only inverted on one axis.
I saw the update, but these fixes really aren't enough to make me want to play the game more. I just wasn't having fun with it.
"- TAIL GRAB: fixed a bug where Tail Grab was unreliable"
Oh! That's nice! I had quite a few problems using this reliably, but always assumed it was because Noodle was too close to obstacles, preventing Doodle from grabbing him.
Game didn't pull me in, hope Snake Pass fans continue to have a ball though!
Nice, guess is time to finish. I'm at the end already but heck is it hard that last level.
Nice! I was looking forward to playing this game again with leaderboards!
Nice. I may have to pick this up as my next downloadable title once I have finished Shovel Knight. It's a toss up between this, Shantae and Has Been Heroes. I've never played a roguelike before so I have no idea if I'd even like HBH. Any suggestions welcome.
I thought this patch had came ages ago, not got round to picking this up yet
When I get a Switch I think this will be my first eShop game alongside Blaster Master Zero.
Sweet! Let's get slithering.
These snake puns kill me every time. I can't take it.
Also why doesn't the Switch version have achievements?
Nintendo UK have just uploaded a video of Snake Pass's time trial.

"TAIL GRAB: fixed a bug where Tail Grab was unreliable" - No wonder I found it unreliable, because it WAS unreliable. Maybe I should test it to see if it is now reliable.
Rumble is much worse! Sounds borderline dangerous for the hardware now. Also I thought the previous game icon was stronger - this has a solid white border that doesn't fit with all the other game icons.
Love this game, but they need to keep improving - especially they should be trying to make portable mode look better. If they can't get the resolution up they should at least try to fine a better balance between the (imo) far too aggressive anti-aliasing and the res. It's just too fuzzing looking as is. It's looks more like your watching a compressed youtube video than a game because of the over softening - yes it's perfectly playable but not so pretty yet.
Anyway, still a very good game but they owe it to the buyers to get it to a better standard - and it seems they are trying - 2 updates so far. But they HAVE to sort that rumble asap as it's real bad now.
@KoopaTheGamer Yep - it's worse now.
@Nintendoer same. I'm all for new ideas but I just wasn't having fun.
Does the 8bitdo N64 controller work well with the Switch? Has anyone tried it with this game?
Downloaded it day 1. Played it. Haven't touched it since. It's just not fun.
It's still less than 480p when in handheld mode.
Don't buy this
My word, the new icon is UGLY!!!!
Controlsssss ssssssstill sssssssuck.
Is the switch ver now caught up with all the others then? Give em credit even after the cut content they did indeed bring it as they said they would.
I'm really thinking I need to grab this.
@UnseatingKDawg Instead of getting 1 2 Switich, I got this, World of Goo and a few Neo Geo games...... I think I made the right decision.
@xxAcesHighxx Agreed. Old one was perfect - no need to change it.
@Zach777 I find them to be fine. Took a while to get the hang - I can't really see how they could make them better really.
@brunojenso I know, man. I loved the first icon. No need to change it!
Yeah it's way worse than before! The vibrate is so bad I have turned it off on the console.
