Ever wanted to send mail from the Mushroom Kingdom? Well now National Japan Post has the next best thing. From 28th June this year post offices across the Japan will be offering a new selection of stamps commemorating the Super Mario series. The stamps will be sold for 82 Yen (around 56 pence) and each will feature either Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi or Toad in a variety of mail-like scenarios.
A neat bonus is that if you're lucky enough to be the recipient of one of these stamps, the Post Office will also add a special celebration post mark. Collectors visiting Japan may want to look at picking these up as over time as the value may increase, along with the obvious reason of them looking pretty cool.
What do you think to the Super Mario themed stamps?

Paper Mario. Are you kidding me? Missed opportunity.
A good excuse to buy some imports soon huh. XD
...Only in Japan 😭
@saturn_hero Ask your uncle who works at Nintendo to send you a postcard.
@LemonSlice I did and he said he doesn't have time, he's too busy working on the next F-Zero
Wow, it came true.

@saturn_hero Shame, but at least he's sending you the alpha.
Peach can send Mario cake invitations in style now.
@H1B1Esquire Exactly why I came to these comments. Perfect opportunity for a Parakarry reference.
Japan are alright on postage prices. It now costs us €1 to post a standard letter within Ireland which most of us feel is a rip-off.
"across the Japan"
You don't say.
OK, nothing of interest here, going back to playing Toukiden:Age of Demons
Zelda would be an awesome set of stamps as well .
Very cool. I've never wanted a pen pal more in my life. On a serious note, I guess Toad really is an anthropomorphic toadstool? I always assumed he and his kind were tiny woodland creatures wearing puffy mushroom hats. Either he's wearing double hats (which is madness), or that big mushroom cap really is his head. Not going to lie, I'm a bit shaken by this.
Man I wish I was Japanese!
It's too bad we don't get something like this overseas; All we usually get from the USPS is some politically correct world leader or theme.
Love that mailman Toad
I'm heading to Japan later in the year. Now how to explain I want Mario stamps in a Japanese post office? 🤔
Ohhhh, Peach. Even bills are love letters, as long as your stamp is on them.
Love letter for Mario. XD
@bimmy-lee I believe one of the cartoons has a Toad take his "hat" off, though idk if that'd be considered canon. I've always been fairly convinced they truly have mushroom heads, but I mean I see nothing wrong with believing they're hats, it'd just look weird for them to have a stamp with toad having a mailman cap instead of the "mushroom hat" so of course it'll be on top, he wouldn't be a recognizable Toad without that. And I'm pretty sure there's been Toads with hats on their head in the games...
@bimmy-lee upon a quick online search, there's no solid consensus on whether they're hats and Nintendo seems to dodge the question so I think it's safe to keep on sticking to your belief that it's a hat. maybe that mail toad is just quirky.
Love the 90s era Mario art.
@aesc
I'll totally do that thanks. Chickens and body parts. Got it. 😉👍
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Please speak for yourself.
Ireland is a small country with 3 or 4 million people. Less population that many large cities in other countries. Therefore it's expensive to run a postal service considering the low volume of post and the large area which has to be covered.
People in Ireland DO NOT have a problem with the cost of the post and they certainly don't think it's a "rip off"
Are you trying to give this country a bad name?
@Mart1ndo Stop lying please! You're just trying to start an argument.
I give this a Nintendo Stamp of Approval!
We just need to convince the Royal Mail to use them.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
That's your answer to a question. Very intelligent.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Where did I lie?
@ShadJV and @aesc - The Super Mario wiki has a small section on the subject, but there's no firm conclusion. Nintendo can be a bit ambiguous with characters in the Mushroom Kingdom, which I enjoy because it allows the player to create a bit of the story as they see fit. While my post was a bit tongue-in-cheek, it's definitely something I've pondered. Mushrooms are the reproductive organs of large, underground organisms called mycelium. If Toad(s) really is/are an anthropomorphic mushroom(s), then they're walking, talking... well, I guess it isn't that strange if you're familiar with some ancient Japanese artists.
Cool stuff!
@bimmy-lee I realize that, the Mario wiki is where my "quick online research" led to (there's not exactly a plethora of scholarly peer reviewed articles on whether Toads have hats or not).
@ShadJV - On it. I'll let you know when the thesis is done, and we'll make arrangements then as to how I'll get it to you for review.
