That's when I'll use my Wii LAN Adapter for the first time on the Switch.
@Judgedean And then there's me, forcing upstanding citizens like yourself to suffer with my terrible wireless connection. Teehee
I'm pretty excited . Never ever played Splatoon 1 because I didn't find the time to pick it up.
Definitely gonna participate in the test fire!
Not a bad game on wii u,a surprise hit really. I believe it will go on to bigger better things on the switch and this is a great BONUS to help it on its way. Splat Bang Wallop
@ThatNyteDaez I need all the help I can get competing online.
It would rather "kill" me to remember now that the global "testfire" runs until March 26 and the very earliest I'm getting my hands on a Switch is... yep, March 27. Life is a troll, after all.
Hope springs eternal that there will be at least a single player demo map hanging around in eShop afterwards.
The testfire of the original is what sold me on the title, looking forward to this.
"if you don't haven't got a Japanese account"
Errors in the article aside, can't say I'll be playing this. Played the testfire for the original and that couldn't keep my interest.
Well at least this will get me to stop playing Botw for a while.
I think
Well this seems to be the most appropriate place since Monday to ask: where's the European Download list? Is Nintendo holding off on it now the Switch is out? New schedule?
@stipey If it's like last week, it seems both regions are getting them on Thursday now.
I'm going to wait until I can get a copy from the store. Q3 release date? Is that the end of Summer?
wow! actually having the hardware means I can actually participatete in this! yes!
Which option do I xhoose? The top in large Kanji or the small Kanji on the bottom?
Great news! So excited for Splatoon 2!
I'm gonna be out of town by then (the 24th), so I'm afraid I must sit this one out. But I hope y'all who do play will have fun. Stay fresh!
@Yorumi Joke's on you! I'm getting it just for the hot Squid Sisters!
I will certainly try the test fire demo, but I'm only buying Splatoon 2 if it has a substantial single player mode.
Splatoon was my most played multiplayer game ever, but (online) multiplayer just isn't for me.
@Yorumi Okay don't buy the game. But hoping it to be a bad selling game for a petty reason is stupid.
@Judgedean You'll be fine. Just relax and play how you want. The demo is more about getting to grips with the gameplay then anything else.
And if you decide you need some online buddies for some Turf Wars - feel free to call on me!
@Yorumi How is paid online Splatoon 2's fault...? By that logic, you shouldn't purchase any Switch game that will enable online play. The actual add-on content that'll be released after launch is quite literally free. Why the sudden hate?
I want to try the game using just the joy con. This game is what sold the switch for my household. The 1st splatoon was a little awkward for my kids to play together because the 2nd player would have to use the dual analog sticks rather than the motion controls. My kids will love it.
well that is a good catch
Yes! I'll check it out. Missed out on the first one.
@Yorumi 121,000,000 people pay for PSN and Xbox live.
Literally thousands of people are barely enjoying the slow, laggy online Wii U servers.
I think its safe to say Nintendo got the message.
I'm looking forward to see what the fuss is about with Splatoon. Many here have told me it's so much fun. The problem is my purchase will weigh heavily on how strong of a single player campaign there is. I don't play online much and avoid most of shooters on my PS4 for that reason. So the testfore won't affect my thoughts much if at all.
For me this will be more of a referendum on how the online play for the Switch works.
@Yorumi yeah it's not like any other console has paid online service..... >_>
On PC.... a billion League of Legends, Overwatch, H1Z1, etc. matches a day do NOT pay to play online. They just pay for their internet, their machine, then go have fun. So why should console owners pay for this "service"?
@Yorumi ....that's not what a server is, and that's not what a router is or how it works :- Valve takes a 30% cut of the sale price of every game, in part to pay for its online servers and distribution. Sony and Microsoft take about 4%, so they charge half a buck a week for online. My year's subscription to Nintendo's online service is costing about 20 cents a week. Somehow, I will manage to survive.
@speedracer216 because they then pay $20 for a skin. In a single month the average LoL player blows more money on skins and random cosmetic crap then I've spent on PSN and XBL subscriptions in a decade...
@speedracer216 I'd rather pay than be part of the .001% that doesn't and end up missing out on the fun, lol. It's an easier pill to swallow with Nintendo games anyway, considering you can't play their games anywhere except on their systems. It is kinda scammy though, I agree, especially considering how poor the benefits of paying are on the Switch compared to on PlayStation, for example. Let's just hope the rumored price of 20/30 dollars a year is true.
Does the Japanese eshop version display in English?
@Yorumi You're slooooowly getting there. Matchmaking and updates are still on their server- the actual battle is p2p. I don't matchmake by pinging 10,000,000 Wii Us, but by connecting to the central Splatoon server. It being one of ....3...online games anyone plays on the wii u, it just barely works out to be free. The Switch will have more games hopefully, and needs a more robust online system.
For the earth-shattering, debt-creating fee of....20 cents a week.
For a game I'm not paying more than $30 for. That I'll likely own for 5 years.
But yeah man, that couple bucks you're whining about sure will kill ya. Enjoy playing Smash Bros FREE p2p server that plays slower than a gameboy color!
@russellohh
The Smash 4 servers are actually relatively stable. A whole ton better than what Brawl had, at least.
Hope they put it on Switch.
Had fun with the first game on Wii U, but it got old pretty quickly. No matter what anyone says this is just an update like MK8 Deluxe.
@marnelljm That's generally what happens with a sequel, especially shooters. The core gameplay stays the same, but the maps, weapons, story etc etc are all different.
@liljmoore I haven't stop and I have way too many games on PS4. Most of them are sealed.
@KirbyTheVampire exactly! I mean we can say the same about all CoD and Battlefield games.
@Yorumi Nintendo has sucked with online because, they didn't raise the funds to maintain it. I highly doubt the rumored $20 annually(a bargain) would be considered a scam.
@Yorumi By all free, you of course mean they take 30% of all sales for life, right? It totaled 3,562,000,000 last year alone. But yeah, "WHY CAN'T EVERYTHING BE FREE FO LYFE" indeed. We'll see if the Switch runs any better with a more expensive system. You know, the wallet-shattering $20 for all of 2017.
My lordi, watching you whimper and beg and cry over a couple pennies is getting sad. Do you have like a paypal where I can donate a few bucks? Even if you were a cashier at walmart, you made enough money during your pouting to pay off 2-3 years of the Switch online network today alone :-
In summary, Wii U online sucks. Switch online might not suck. It'll cost $2 a month. Oh noes.
@Yorumi Nintendo gets about 1-4% for third party titles. Steam gets 30%. You sure understand literally nothing.
No wonder you're in screaming tears over a few pennies a week :-
I just want to be able to play tower control when I want to instead of having to plan around the rotation schedule.
Eh up!! We have a Keyboard Warrior in the comments!!
Welcome SplaTWOon !!
Good to know the actual date! Maybe I'll buy a Switch just prior to March 24th and return it on March 26th.
Can't wait to try this game out and to finally have something else to play besides FAST, Zelda, and Shovel Knight. Splatoon was great on Wii U. And the ability to play this in portable mode is great. Hype!!
I hear that the Testfire demo is available for download from the US eShop right now. No sign of it in the EU eShop yet... I don't want to have to make a JP or US account just to get it!
@Yorumi Great! we won't see you online then!
@Yorumi Are you really sitting here insulting us as if we know nothing because, we have different views on the situation? How they handle online doesn't change the fact that yes, Steam does take more money per sale to pay for servers while console manufacturers charge for online services out right. Sony's online has drastically improved between PS3 and PS4 whether P2P or not and the same could happen for Nintendo.
@ThePoochyKid Though it looks like you can still find out what VC games on Monday through the VC Wikipedia page. Found out there that we're getting 2 Turbografx games.
Pre-order for this little badger has long been in. Loved the first and this looks like it improves on every level!
Will the Wii (not Wii U) lan adapter work on the Switch? The Wii U lan adapter is overpriced (seems to be a repackaged Wii one anyways) but the Wii version seems much cheaper.
@Yorumi You don't have to give us an essay, if you don't want to buy Splatoon 2 then don't, but don't say you hope it fails. It's not those devs' fault that corporate is charging for online.
Can't download this yet in AUS/NZ. thought it would kill me having it but only to look at; but then i went and played splatoon and everything was right with the world again
@MagicEmperor b b b b but.. it's dangerous to go alone! Take your Switch! (Hotel WiFi / free hotspots / mobile hotspot should be sufficient)
@Yorumi is right about the games being p2p and people are essentially paying for "nothing" if Nintendo sticks with a p2p model for their networking. Lets just wait and see the splatoon 2 demo so we can observe whether or not they switch network models.
I always miss the test fire times, so I will just wait for the game.
@Yorumi did I ever tell you how much I loved your comments
just. amazing. god damn gold.
@Yorumi Do you want free online or do you want good online? Nintendo are a business that charges for products and services, not a charity.
How has New Zealand still not got this? Usually the time zones work in our favour in at least this regard.
@uoi100 Online for Wii was very good, very smooth even when my net ran slow in Mario Kart Wii online. With far better Internet with Nintendo's own Wii U online services, I struggled to play MK8 online, and often had issues with Splatoon 2.
Without proper third party hosted servers, it's horrible, and the fee is because they are paying DeNA a lot of money to run the online system.
@MrYuzhai ....... I totally forgot about hotel hot spots. Mr. Yuzhai, I owe you my rupees!
@Yorumi Did not know you work for Nintendo, and have an insight to all their up coming online services.
Please, could you clarify for us, exactly how much it is going to cost? Could you explain why they are wasting money implementing servers (as outlined last year, when we will just be connecting to each other? Oh, the big one, can you tell us why, if we are not going to be benefactors in any shape or form, Nintendo just decided to start charging for no extras?
If you need to consult with some co-workers, I/we can wait for your reply.
@Yorumi Not a chance in Hades I'm afraid.
You can download it on the US Switch shop as far as I understand. I clicked on the eShop link from the lock screen and Splatoon 2 was in the recent games on the first page. It errored out once, but I repeated the process and downloaded it just fine.
Downloaded and ready!
Lets hope they fixed the horrible netcode with all it's prediction flaws....
I just really hope the connection is stable. Wi-Fi on my Switch had been really bad. It's almost nonexistent when Docked but it isn't much better as a handheld. This testfire will be err, a good test to see how well the Switch handles online titles.
@Yorumi As you keep mentioning, PC GAMING is FREE on STEAM......I know, I have a dedicated gaming PC worth around £2500. So what we can sumise is......you are a PC FAN BOY. Nothing wrong with that, just don't keep on about stuff you clearly have limited knowledge of, and probably get your info from Reditt or something.
I'm not very excited for this game, but it looks fun.
@Yorumi Never ceases to amaze me how many fanboys are proud of paying for nothing at all. Oh well your loss, continue to wallow in your ignorance.
