The Nintendo Switch dock is a nifty little solution for the system's key gimmick, with its near-instant conversion of the console's image to a TV and vice-versa when the tablet is removed. Presuming you're relatively careful with it and you're not one of a small number that ended up with a defective unit, it does the job nicely.
While some are looking for modern workarounds through using cables, one clever owner - tettzan777 on Reddit - has turned a Nintendo 64 into a dock. Before anyone gets too upset, they've made it clear that the retro console had pretty much died so they wanted to put it to good use.
This isn't just a hollowed out N64 that's a place to rest the system though, it's actually a dock. It's relatively clever but not quite rocket science - as this gallery of images shows the dock's board was moved into the N64 shell and hooked up from there.
It's a nice idea for sure, albeit one that not many of us will use ourselves.

If they got the charging grip not connecting the joycons would not be an issue so pretty sweet actually.
@Nintendoforlife Meh. I doubt it. They sold enough N64's that there's still an abundance of units out there for anyone that wants one. Maybe they'll become valuable in the far-off future when most of them have died, but right now they're too common to be worth anything significant. And about the only value in a dead one is in the spare parts it can provide.

That is petty cool but I'd have to kill a system to do that since my N64 still works and I won't do that.
Very cool! I bet the good ol' N64 is less likely to scratch the screen than the official dock, too. That alone is worth not having JoyCons being attachable while docked! (You get a JoyCon Grip, anyways, so this is actually a nice solution.)
Good luck trying to use the JoyCon to get the Switch out of that dock...

If the Switch doesn't dock correctly..
Take it out of the N64
Give it a blow
Pop it back in
...and it'll magically be working just fine!

You really should get rubbing alcohol'd q-tips and rub the game and system contacts vigorously with them. Not only will you never have another connection problem again, future users of those games and that N64 will thank you for it. Not to mention, this method doesn't actually slightly damage the game.

It's kind of ironic that he used an N64. The last time Nintendo used cartridges for their "home" console. Also, we may have returned to the other side effect of using cartridges. Cost. And that didn't work out too well for the N64.

Agreed, what a waste. Plus, it looks tacky... and the N64 had way cooler games at launch than the Switch.

i might do the same when my Nintendo 64 dies but will modify it further so that the Joy-Cons can connect to the Nintendo 64 to charge. but that will require additional work and a software update for the Nintendo switch.

Why would you - even if you used a Pro Controller - attach them to the (official) dock anyway?
@shani to charge them, unless you want to buy a separate charging grip. I attach mine when docked to charge them as I don't have a pro controller

The output of Switch on N64 will be the exact same as if you were to put it in an official Switch dock. All that's changed here is how the dock physically looks. That's all.
