Since Kickstarter launched back in 2009 the crowdfunding campaign website has continued its growth, allowing fans to invest money in projects they want to see come to light.
One title that has started to gain some momentum is 2D action-platformer Caveman Warriors. Promising solo or co-op for up to 4 players, Caveman Warriors wants to "jump back in time and free your inner Caveman" as you traverse across eight different worlds to rescue your children from extraterrestrial beings. Guaranteeing unique character skills and challenging bosses, the game is inspired by the likes of New Super Mario, Metal Slug and Castle Crashers, to name a few. You can view the Kickstarter trailer below:
Clearly parodying Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, the trailer shows cavemen surrounding an arcade machine before making the discovery of Caveman Warriors on the screen itself. As you'd expect it's not long after that the neanderthals start getting impatient with one another in the queue; it's a quirky live-action video that establishes the humour from the off.

With 10 days left Jandusoft is hoping to reach its initial target of $10,000, before opening the options for stretch goals, which will apparently include Nintendo Switch and Wii U. At the time of writing the campaign has raised a little over $6500; Caveman Warriors will be aiming for release in June 2017 providing the full target is met. There is also a free demo available to try out for PC and Mac.
You can see more on the project at this link; this title, at least, looks genuinely promising in some screens and animated GIFs. Interestingly one of the more deluxe backer options is to actually design a boss that will feature in the game, though it will set you back $3000.
What do you think of Caveman Warriors? Is this the sort of project you'd consider backing on Kickstarter?

This actually looks fun. I'm just a bit dissapointet that Nintendo consoles are stretch goals for most of these crowdfunded games.
@dizzy_boy Yeah. I was a little skeptical but it looks like a good title to play with friends.
Another indie 2D sidescrolling platformer. Yay! Having said that, it does look nice. So how are those GTA V, Battlefield and Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare ports coming along?
Eh. Looks like the sort of flash games I used to play when I was at school, and it's yet another 2D platformer. It's an absolute pass from me, but good luck to them.
Don't get me wrong, I love 2D platformers but the oversaturation of them in the Indie scene is getting out of hand now. especially the generic looking ones that look like they were made in Adobe Flash, like this one.
Reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey in a trailer?
Best Kickstarter trailer ever!
I'll wait for reviews but initially I like it. Reminds me of Joe & Mac a little.
This looks quite promising actually.Always had a thing for cavemen and dinosaurs but games with them starring have never really been that common. I think the last game I ever played as a caveman was in either Chuck Rock or Joe & Mac. Long long time ago.
The Wii U had loads of indie 2d sidescrollers but most of them were puzzle platformers and looked much the same as each other. Classic 16 bit style platformers, which are my favourites were not as common.
It looks nice. I know indiedevs make this kind of games because they like to play them. I don't see how this coming to Switch influences the possibility of other games like COD, Battlefield or any other mindless shooters people like so much, also coming to the console. Can't wrap my head around the connections people make sometimes.
@Nik-Davies Have to agree with you. I did have fun with Swords & Soldiers 2 on the Wii U, but I don't feel that the Switch needs a truckload of these type of games.
Yikes this game looks bad
So I design a boss and the developers pay me $3000, right?
No thanks, it just looks like a bad Flash game.
Cavemen?
Yeah-no. Nice visuals, but just no.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE as soon as GTA5 implements a Hot Coffee spiritual successor with HD Rumble support.
They put a good amount of effort into their campaign video considering the relatively small amount they are asking for.
I suppose they'd rather hit their goal and get the positive buzz from a successful campaign, than have wasted their time completely. And if they're committed to making the game anyway, it couldn't hurt.
It looks pretty cool, but I am always 50/50 with kickstarters
Somehow, it reminds me of Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja.
The theme reminds me of Joe and Mac. That was a great game, if they can imitate that in any way they'll do well
For every amazing kickstarter campaign that I am happy about, there is one that burned me. Sorry KS, I'm out.
I'd rather have Joe and Mac 1&2, but this could plug that hole!
Not gonna back this. I only back super high caliber stuff on KS now. So far I haven't been too disappointed.
Looks a bit rough around the edges.
Q) What do you think of Caveman Warriors?
A) It looks great; even prior to funding it looks like a decent amount of work has already been done on it. That's usually a good sign.
Q) Is this the sort of project you'd consider backing on Kickstarter?
A) I am a fan of co-op games, I like the art style, and I do own an Xbox One to be able to play this on in case it doesn't reach a Nintendo system stretch goal, so yeah, this does look like a game I'd back. I'll probably do so either tonight or tomorrow night. Here's to hoping Caveman Warriors succeeds with it's funding!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Seriously?
You whine about "another indie 2D sidescroller" then go on to complain about the lack of annualized, dude bro military FPS games.
Guess what? People have different tastes, and I have zero interest in Battlefield and Call of Duty.
If you do...it's your lucky day!!!
You can buy those on at least 3 different platforms.
Sadly this Kickstarter has missed its stretch goal for the Switch. So if you want to play this game, PC/PS4/XB1 will be your only options at this time.
