As some of you are no doubt aware, the latest entry in the "true" Harvest Moon series launches tomorrow as Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns. Though this will be the game's debut in the west, it actually came out last year in Japan, and has since received a decent amount of DLC. For a while, XSeed seemed hesitant to bring this to the West—as the translation work required would necessitate nearly the manpower of a full-on new game— but the developer fortunately has since changed its mind due to overwhelming fan feedback.
Japan received nearly six months of DLC support post-launch—which includes new marriage candidates, pets, clothes, and more—and most of it will eventually make its way over to the West. No release date or pricing has been revealed yet, but the developer was keen to mention in an earlier post that the DLC—which was free in Japan—would likely have to be paid in the West to cover localization costs. Still, it's better than not getting it at all, right? Here's what was said in a recent blog post:
We were really overwhelmed by the feedback we received from it. The patience and support of those who responded was encouraging to say the least, and we were grateful to hear all of your opinions, however you felt about the situation. One issue that came up on our forums that I'd like to address quickly is about the bug fixes that were included in the post-launch patches in Japan. Those fixes are all already included in the core game that we are releasing on February 28.
Now then, on to the big news: I'm happy to report that we have decided to localize and release the DLC in North America. I don't have information on a release timeline or costs for you yet, but we're eager to dive into translating and editing the text for this massive update. Stay tuned for updates in the months after the initial release.
Thanks again for all your feedback. It made our decision much easier. While the DLC is a ways off, until then we hope you enjoy Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns. Even without the post-launch DLC, it is still the biggest game in the storied history of the farm/life-sim series.
What do you think? Are you getting Trio of Towns? Were you part of the feedback that convinced XSeed to change its mind? Drop us a comment in the section below.

When can we expect a review for this one?
@Aurumonado Already done, just waiting on assets and the embargo to lift.
I was one of the fans that left feedback that I'd willingly pay for the DLC and I'm glad the response was strong enough for them to go through with it.
Got my copy of the game last night and I'll be sure to make good on my word to purchase the DLC to repay them in kind for taking the financial risk to make all the content available.
@SwitchVogel Could Nlife make up its mind whether "The West" includes Europe or not? Here, "The West" is just NA, but the definition seems to change on a daily basis.
I passed on the first game but I might get this one since it looks better than the current Harvest Moon game.
Getting my copy today hopefully. I ordered it from EB Games so I would get the plushie preorder bonus
@Pokefanmum82 That sounds cool, is it the capybara?
Yeah. It looks so cute.
I haven't played HM or SoS in a while, but my kids will be all over this. I'm happy that SoS is succeeding even without the Harvest Moon brand.
@Pokefanmum82 same here getting SOS and Horizon.
I'm so excited! I'll be receiving my copy of the game today and diving in and farming ALL THE TURNIPS!!! Now I have even more to look forward to. Woohoo!
Hopefully new sets of Bachelors / Bachelorettes, more clothing, etc. So far, I still unimpressed with this Bokujou Monogatari due to not so appealing character design in my opinion, so pixelate graphic even on NEW 3DS, lack of character gesture when doing social interaction, etc. I just want character designer from Magical Melody return on next Bokujou Monogatari series. I like that Chibi design art style, same cute as River King NDS. For Music, I want the composer for Magical Melody return. The Music on Magical Melody was very catchy and fun.
Not a day one buy for me (had to cancel my pre-order due to unforseen recital expenses). Might drop a few (not-so) subtle hints around Mother's Day.
I'm torn between getting this or the first Story of Seasons. Any feedback?
@Nintendo_Ninja Well this technically is the current Harvest Moon so of course it's better than those games from Natsume.
@JasmineDragon Me too. I used to love the Original Harvest Moon series.
It's so frustrating seeing that Japan and North America are getting DLC when the game isn't even out yet in Europe At this point I'm just hoping that they do release it eventually!
