As you'll no doubt already know, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime appeared on The Tonight Show last night to demo Super Mario Run and the forthcoming Nintendo Switch console to an understandably over-excited Jimmy Fallon.
Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto was also in attendance, and at one point joined the house band The Roots to rattle off a seriously funky rendition of the classic Super Mario Bros. theme tune.
Miyamoto is known for his talent on the strings - as our very own Ryan Craddock discovered when he unexpectedly bumped into the great man when he was visiting the UK a while back.

And that's what I like to see- Music!
You forgot to add the Japanese honorific "-san" to his name.
Have you no bushido??
Nice...
I suppose you could say this rendition really takes Mario back to his roots.
Play road to bowzer next.
Hearing music jam like that, I think Nintendo should make Music Studio games for Switch. Just like FL Studio, we can create music from zero, set the BPM, experienced with a lot of different musical instrumental and percussion, upload it to internet and share, also we can create our notes to be played like BeatMania IIDX or DDR, set the difficulty level, play it after that. I think Nintendo should create more Constructive or Co-Operate games rather than so many Competitive games.
@Retron maybe this is a hint of what's to come. Switch music! Use the controllers as drums, a guitar, and a tuba! Launching on switch in march
More Nintendo Difference exposure for the general public. I absolutely adore this.
Bom Chicka Wah Wah!
Love it!
That was worth a 1000 gold coins! Totally awesome!
Nintendo Switch Music confirmed!
@PlaytendoGuy I know you're joking, but if Nintendo could pull of a music classroom game in the style of Art Academy rather than Wii Music, I think it'd be worth something. AA had excellent lessons, software, sharing facilities and all round charm, whereas WM was a bit of a waggly mess.
There's plenty of music theory content to fill a game up with, and if the Switch has multitouch, it could well function as a passable piano simulator.
Stuff like this brings a smile to my face.
This is one of those small moments that will live on forever. The Nintendo touch if you will.
I love good ol' Shigsy.
Lol this was a hit show. I saw this again on dutch television just 30 minutes ago and they talked about the switch and the guitar play of Miyamoto.
faints
Say what you want about Nintendo, but they have the coolest management by far.
Pure gold!
Stuff like this always brings a smile to my face.
This is one of those moments that will go down in gaming history. Couldn't stop smiling when I was watching it.
I wish they kept going into the underground level music, but it would obviously be a lot harder to learn with that maniacal bit at the end!
Holy cow! Ever since rumors about the next Nintendo system started to feel solid, I felt like the perfect thing for Nintendo to do is to get involved with a show like this. Their message with the Switch and playing on people's nostalgia would be a win for them. I haven't seen this episode, and I don't know if the Switch is even mention. But I think this is a good look for Nintendo.
what about those stories of miyamoto making link left-handed based on himself being left handed...but here he is playing guitar right-handed. i would also like to point out that he is mic'd up but barely, and by comeparsion to the p.a. system these guys are mic'd into, it's as if he is intentionally inaudible. miyamoto is basically there for viewing pleasure. watching his fingers, some of it makes sense, some of it doesn't.
yet it did make me think. when miyamoto was a boy, did he ever have dreams of playing guitar on stage? 🤔
Nice!
Surely it should of been "Reggae Fils-Aime "
