Earlier this week a small number of My Nintendo members started to get first-come-first-served invites to Nintendo Switch preview events in North America, with New York being first up with other cities to follow. Nintendo of America has now rebranded these events as the 'Nintendo Switch Preview Tour', offering up public days on which those without tickets can try their luck.
On the third day (Sunday) of each weekend in the tour the doors will be open to the public, with the first two days being the ticketed events; on the public day it'll be first-come-first-served to get through the doors. Cities involved are below - they're the same as revealed earlier in the week, with venue details still to be outlined in detail.
- New York – Jan. 13-15
- Toronto – Jan. 27-29
- Washington, D.C. – Feb. 10-12
- Chicago – Feb. 17-19
- San Francisco – Feb. 24-26
- Los Angeles – March 3-5
In addition, the Switch will also be playable at three expos in the build-up to launch - PAX South in San Antonio (Jan. 27-29), PAX East in Boston (March 10-12) and SXSW in Austin, Texas (March 16-18).
Are any of you planning to try and go hands on with the Switch before it arrives in March?

Yay, they are coming to WV!! ....ah who am I kidding...
So, does this mean the Switch won't be released before the SXSW in Austin, Texas (March 16-18)?
I'll gladly wait till the system actually comes out. Not fighting to wait in a long line just to be told you can't get in. 4 months isn't that long to wait either.
I also remember when Nintendo had a presence at my local Mall years ago. Let everyone try out their systems and I didn't have to stand in a big long line. After all those people in that Mall will most likely be your buyers. Why they can't do something like this across say 50 to 100 malls across the country is beyond me. Worked before!
@Whopper744 What's a "WV"?
It should be in your area by the end of March
@Spoony_Tech I'd say do it this holiday season
If I was nearby one of these locations on the day, I'd drop by to check it out, but it's likely to be mobbed and allow for very little time to play. Fun for those who get to, though.
Wow...!
Bring all your friends, family, relatives to that Tour.
They would better know what is Nintendo Switch and why Switch is so Special.
I might try to make one of the Cali previews. Moving midwest so its about a 3 hour drive. But I have family near both cities so I can use that as an excuse to visit.
What are you doing NOE?
I really hope it releases by March 13 (my birthday) I've already told my wife and kids this is all I want for my birthday
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Nothing At least the chances of a Switch event in Norway is slim
I can wait.
@HenFjo The chances of an event in Ireland are zilch.
@Oubie Not necessarily, they would probably still want to do around and after the launch as well. That said, I do expect this to be launched at March 31 at 11:59PM. Just to wait as long as physically possible.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Why are you complaining? A majority of America can't go to these cities
6 cities with very little geographical coverage. That's NOA for ya.
The fact this seems to be a North-American-only kind of deal is enough to earn the new console the "Wicked Switch Of The West" moniker.
well if it doesn't come to the uk at all atleast i can play it at pax east
Being one of the few people who uses My Nintendo and Miitomo on a regular basis, I wish I'd get one of these invites!
I really hope to see the one in LA.
Yay for Toronto! That's what I was waiting for...still no invite though...Did any lucky Canadians get invites?
Yay...
The GDC is missing, and feels like a BIG miss if Nintendo is trying to convince developers to actually make games for the thing.
So nothing even near Florida? Nintendo completely disregarded the Southeast US.
Fantastic!!! I Live about 30 minutes outside of D.C. Will def plan a "family trip to the city that Sunday and see if i can break away to check it out. Hoping it doesnt get too crazy!
If I had the time, I would totally drive out to Chicago (the only city anywhere close to me getting it).
Boo! They skipped Las vegas this time. The Wii event was so fun.....Now im not buying the Switch....leh wah...leh wah....leh wah.... haha just kidding im loving what im seeing. Maybe I can get down to Los Angeles for the event. If any of you have a chance to go to one of these events go. It was so much fun and they gave out free stuff. Good stuff
Btw how do you get tickets to go the event?
YES! THEY'LL HAVE IT AT THE SXSW GAMING EXPO!
I was hoping that would be the case since they had similar events previous years (3DS, early access to upcoming Wii U & 3DS games, the real-life Mario Kart along with Mario Kart 8 demos, etc.), but it's great to have official confirmation!!
I'm so hyped!!
The Switch... at PAX South?! In San Antonio?! Less than 10 minutes away from my house?! HOLY CRAP. This is one of the first big Nintendo events (and only the third PAX convention) that actually stops in my home town of all places! FOR ONCE they pick San Antonio over Austin! TO THE PAX WEBSITE!
I registered for Friday afternoon, January 13 in NYC! I thought they were all out of spaces after the first day, but I got the invite today, 3 days after the initial email. There weren't many spots left when I checked it out, only a couple on Friday and some on Saturday across 2 time frames. It looks like each group will have about 3 to 3 and a half hours at the event. I'm so excited! I plan to take Thursday through Sunday off from work so I can marinate in the experience and relax before tackling the Monday after
Wow, six cities, what a diverse and expansive itinerary they have!
Canada actually got a city on the list! Wow! Nintendo realizes we do exist. Vancouver would have been a good choice, too.
