Earlier this week we pointed out that Amazon UK had opened pre-orders on the rather charming new range of Legend of Zelda amiibo, which pay loving homage to the series in a variety of ways. Well, now you have an alternative option for orders.
The Official Nintendo UK Store has also opened pre-orders on these amiibo ahead of their arrival in early December, offering them at the same price as Amazon UK (£10.99); they're limited to one per customer, however.
- Toon Link (The Wind Waker) amiibo (The Legend of Zelda Collection) - £10.99
- Link (Ocarina of Time) amiibo (The Legend of Zelda Collection) - £10.99
- Link (The Legend of Zelda) amiibo (The Legend of Zelda Collection) - £10.99
- Zelda (The Wind Waker) amiibo (The Legend of Zelda Collection) - £10.99
Are any of you UK gamers planning to pre-order these amiibo? Let us know in the comments.

Though they look nice and I'm a huge Zelda fan, I will resist as I don't like amiibo for several reasons
More amiibo that currently do nothing new...
I don't know, if they are selling amiibo as toys that interact with games shouldn't they be telling us in advance what games they interact with and what they do in those games? We buy Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Lego Dimensions and amiibo, and while Nintendo started selling us amiibo by telling us how much better they were than other toys to life b/c they worked in more than just one game, well now we don't even know what they do.
If they only work in SSB, well that's just 1 game. And if they work in Zelda BotW, what do they do? I don't get it, just sell them as Jakks Pacific figures and be done with it.
Still need full details on amiibo functionality in BotW before I decide on which I'll be getting.
@rjejr Did you see the latest Jakks Pacific video with the Nintendo characters? Some of them look really good, there's a massive range and they might be more functional than amiibo as kids can play with them and they're poseable, not just a paperweight. I'm having a search for the video. How much do the JP figurines cost?
Edit: Watch the video in the link below. I can't embed it here.

Give me something to do with them and maybe we will talk. Until then...
I'd consider Toon Zelda as that's the only one of the bunch that does something that the Smash version doesn't but I'm still waiting for the most important amiibo of the ones not released yet, Corrin.
Useless. But I've ordered OoT Link and Pixel Link. That'll do.
Kinda over amiibo since last year. What's the point?
They will of course be carried over to the NX I'm sure. But I think the 'Toys to Life' trend is dying a death now. Market is flooded with loads of them. Sure, at Xmas kids will get the Lego ones etc but that's kinda it.
New Guitar Hero.
They can make all the amiibo's they want but until they make games to compliment them they are as worthless as a Game Boy that's sold with AAA batteries.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE that's what I did I stopped buying amiibo as my kids get bored of it as its only good in smash.
I started buying the world of Nintendo jakks Pacific figures. They are 100 times better plus cheaper.
Also have the s h figuarts by bandai and the detail is really good. My best one is Mario maker 12inch by taito from Japan you can get them for 25 pounds eBay
@rjejr They already have the functionality with existing games listed on the official site... they are basically looking to be identical to their SSB collection counterparts in terms of functionality... just alternative designs.
The problem is BotW... only Wolf Link and the three BotW amiibo are listed as being compatible at this stage, and only Wolf Link has details of it's functionality... the other three just say 'stay tuned'... we can assume that they will have some sort of functionality, but what that will be and whether it will differ between different versions of the same character is still a mystery.
Considering that they are being put up for pre-order suggests that more details about them are on the way, so I'm expecting to get get a direct that'll talk more about BotW in the next week or so... along with other NX games and a sneaky teaser for the console if my other predictions are correct.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I have 12 amiibos and I regret buying them except the pixel 3D Mario. You can also buy the 20 inch Mario from smyths uk for 20 pounds and that has articulation. Amiibo meh
The biggest problem is that the Nintendo community is so split on the concept of DLC. This has been Nintendo's biggest hurdle with amiibo. If done right, I don't think the D word has to be so concerning. I'd love to see these amiibo interact with the BotW world like wolf link, yet half the people here would throw a fit.
It's a tough crowd here...
If there was an Ocarina amiibo itself I would buy that. But these I just love.
I don't care if they're useless! They will be mine!
I pre ordered 11 new amiibo recently and still haven't completed my smash collection
I have got one set of these preordered at Amazon and one set of these preordered at Nintendo UK Official Store.
I am hoping with the arrival in five weeks time when the Nes Mini comes out to see if I can at last get into Zelda! I went on the Amazon site and these amiibo were sold out, so I bought two from Game. I bought a toon style one before so I feel I don't need another one that is similar. Also with Game you get loyalty points so I'm seeing if I can save up a tenner on my card!!
I think these amiibo look great. I don't buy them to use, I like them as little collectible figurines. So I have no shame in buying the ones that I have.
I absolutely love amiibos, I want them to never end.
Preordered the set.
Pre-Ordered all of them as soon as I got the Nintendo Newsletter e-mail. Looks as though my amiibo collection is going to be entirely BotW related.
@DragonEleven "just alternative designs."
So they mocked the other toys to life as being limited to 1 game, and instead they make 2, or even 3 toys, that do the exact same thing in an old game? Marvelous.
Nintendo: There's no putting the cart before the horse like it.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I never knew JP did commercials. We've been buying those figures for a few years now. I check Target every week to see which ones they have, it almost seems like every week they have a different one. I don't buy them all, my kids have weird tastes, so I usually get odd ones like Skull Kid and Wario and Waluigi, and my kids like Yoshi. Small ones are $4.99, medium are $7.99, I'm not sure about the big ones, more than I want to spend.
But I am more likely to buy them than amiibo.
@ThomasBW84 How long as NintendoLife been getting commissions for products like these?
Well, now that I now using your links helps NintendoLife, I'll make sure to do that from now on.
@Knuckles That's very kind, thanks!
A little while, I recall putting a similar disclaimer in a Black Friday guide last year. It's good to be fully transparent, in any case.
@rjejr It's only the read/write functionality of amiibo that is limited... they can all be used for read only functionality in a range of games, which is what sets them apart from other toys-to-life figures.
And there's plenty of good reasons to have multiple different designs of the same amiibo... choice of whichever design you prefer, differentiating between different save data/different people's amiibo (probably particularly handy with siblings), and of course, collectability.
There's also the fact that as they are limited to one save file, if you want to save data for a particular character from two different games, you'd need two different amiibo... hence they released the first alternate designs in the Super Mario collection when Mario Party was released, so that you could have (for example) one Mario amiibo for Smash Bros data, and another for Mario Party data... this could therefore mean that we will soon be getting a Zelda game that has read/write functionality for Link, Toon Link and Zelda amiibo (maybe mini-games to train them up for BotW, like we can do with Wolf Link).
It's available on www.bestbuy.ca too.
@DragonEleven "There's also the fact that as they are limited to one save file, if you want to save data for a particular character from two different games, you'd need two different amiibo... "
But that's the same thing as each amiibo only being good in 1 game if you "need" (your word, not mine) to buy another amiibo for each game. That defeats their entire selling point of 1 figure, multiple games, doesn't it?
"You can use each figure for multiple games, unless you actually want to use a figure for more than 1 game, then you need to buy a new figure for each game."
Gee, so much better than other toys to life figure.
And I'm still not sure what the Monster hunter Stories amiibo do either. And if they work in more than 1 game? MH4? MHX?
Nintendo keeps making these "toys-to-life" figures that seem to be to be figures first, toys-to-life 2nd. And they arent' as good as we were first lead to believe. I'm just going to start calling amiibo toys-to-lie.
@Fezatron My amiibo collection is every single amiibo that has released since November 2014 so far with the exception to the Dark Turbo Charge Donkey Kong as that is hard to find right now for a reasonable price due to unfortunately being an eBay Exclusive.
The Toon Link (The Wind Waker) amiibo, Zelda (The Wind Waker) amiibo and Link (Ocarina of Time) amiibo have already sold out.
@rjejr You're ignoring read-only functionality, which is the main function of amiibo, and is what grants them multi-game functionality... read/write functionality is more of a secondary option that allows for customisation of the amiibo for certain games... some amiibo don't even have this option at present.
I'll be getting the 8-bit Link (to go with 8-bit Mario) and OoT Link because I can't resist, but I really have to stop after that...
@DragonEleven I'm not ignoring it, I'm just focusing on something else.
And if that's the "main" function, well it's pretty pathetic. Skins in Super Mario Maker that only work in 8 bit mode, wonderful.
I'm not saying amiibo don't have any use at all, we own about a dozen or so, but they way Nintendo was promoting them before launch doesnt equal where they stand now. Both Bill Trinen and Reggie were really playing up being able to play as your character, not just next to it like in SSB, and I think the only game that lets you play "as" your amiibo is Codename STEAM.
Go back and read their original comments then look at the state of play w/ amiibo today. Yes they unlock a few things, but there are many downsides as well. Never lived up to the hype.
@ThomasBW84 You still awake? You guys are the only Nintneod news site not to cover NES Mini on The Today Show this morning.
http://www.today.com/video/hot-fall-tech-nes-classic-edition-drink-chiller-calorie-counting-jump-rope-779634243802
That show averages 4 million daily viewers, so it's something.
Here's some nice eye candy for ya to dream about you may not have seen yet, to almost make me on topic.
@rjejr I'll just skip past your contradictions and get right to the problem... your view of what amiibo are meant to be is completely wrong... you seem to be confusing them with other toy-to-life figures like Skylanders... they've never been about playing AS the character... they're about playing WITH the character... that's how they've been promoted.
You typically play alongside them, against them, or with items they give you... very rarely as the actual character themselves.
@DragonEleven " you seem to be confusing them with other toy-to-life figures like Skylanders..."
Gee, I wonder why. Oh yeah, I remember now, Reggie told me too.
Direct quote from Reggie - "Speaking to the Seattle Times, Fils-Aime said:
You can expect them to be comparable to the Disney and Skylander products that are on the market."
YOU CAN EXPECT THEM TO BE COMPARABLE TO THE DISNEY AND SKYLANDERS PRODUCTS THAT ARE ON THE MARKET.
So excuse me for listening to the president of NoA and confusing the 2. He's the one who said it, not me.
@rjejr Yeah... comparable... not the same.
You seem to have based your whole view of amiibo on that one misinterpreted statement.
@DragonEleven No, I've based my view of amiibo on owning 11 of them, about 80 Skylanders, about 30 Disney Infinity figures, and about 2 dozen Lego Dimensions sets, and actually playing w/ them all.
Toys-to-life figures, based on NFC, that work on videogame consoles, and cost about the same price. I'm not sure how much more comparable you could want. I even own 2 of them, Donkey Kong and Bowser, that are actually BOTH amiibo and Skylander in the same toy. I'd say being one and the same toy is about as comparable as you can get.
@rjejr They're comparable in that they are figures that are scanned into the game to unlock additional content... that's it... that's what toys-to-life figures are.
But that does not mean that the content that they unlock is comparable... as that is where amiibo differ from those other examples... unlike those other examples, amiibo unlock different things in different games... which is exactly the point that started this exchange, which you are still too ignorant to understand.
@DragonEleven Well then if your so smart tell me what these amiibo unlock. And tell me what the 3 new Zelda BotW amiibo unlock. You're the smart one, I'm ignorant, so tell me what those 3 new amiibo will unlock. Surely you know. If you don't know, then maybe you shouldn't be calling other people ignorant.
