San Diego Comic-Con isn't far away, taking place from 21st to 24th July; as is now the norm Nintendo will have a booth inside the event but is hosting a bigger area outside of the convention centre, allowing those without a Comic-Con ticket to get involved.
The Play Nintendo Family Lounge will be on the first floor of the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina (333 W. Harbor Dr.), which is next to the main venue. Plenty of events are planned to get some competitive juices flowing, in addition to community events to bring gamers together; a press release excerpt is below.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U 12 & Under Tournament (July 23): Nintendo fans that are 12 years old or younger and have parental consent can participate in a Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament at 2 p.m. on July 23. The tournament will be live-streamed on the Nintendo Twitch channel, so even people that can't be there have a chance to keep an eye on the action. Tournament slots are limited for the one-day event, and fans will be able to sign up the day of the event on a first-come, first-served basis. The Grand and First Prize winners will each receive a prize pack filled with Nintendo products and merchandise.
The Play Nintendo Challenge (July 21-22, July 24): Play through three elimination rounds composed of three different Wii U games (Splatoon, Mario Kart 8 and Pokkén Tournament) in a group to see if you can emerge victorious! Participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The Play Nintendo Challenge runs all day and takes less than 30 minutes to complete. Winners will receive an exclusive champion Nintendo T-shirt. Players who participate may receive other giveaways while supplies last based on how far they make it in the challenge.
YO-KAI WATCH Voice Actor Event (July 22): Actors Alicyn Packard, J.W. Terry and Melissa Hutchison, who provide the voices for Jibanyan, Whisper and Komasan, respectively, in the YO-KAI WATCH video game and animated TV series, will be conducting a Q&A session, doing live voice demos and a table read of a scene from Season 2 of the animated TV series from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. PT. Select attendees will also have an opportunity to receive an autograph or take photos with the actors.
Pokémon Fan Gathering Area (July 21-24): Meet up with fellow Pokémon fans to trade Pokémon, pick up some cool swag (while supplies last) and relax in a Pokémon gaming zone. The gathering area will be open during show hours.
Photo Opportunities (July 21-24): At various times during all four days, popular characters like Mario, Luigi, Pikachu, Kirby and Jibanyan from the YO-KAI WATCH series will make surprise appearances to take photos with fans.
The Lounge will have quite a broad range of titles available to play, largely drawing on the content seen on the Play Nintendo tour around the US. Most of the games have already been released, but there are a handful that are yet to arrive in stores.
- Metroid Prime: Federation Force
- Style Savvy: Fashion Forward
- Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice
- YO-KAI WATCH 2
- YO-KAI WATCH
- Yoshi's New Island
- Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
- Kirby: Planet Robobot
- Mario Kart 7
- Pokémon Omega Ruby / Pokémon Alpha Sapphire
- New Super Mario Bros. 2
- Splatoon
- Mario Kart 8
- Pokkén Tournament
As for inside Comic-Con itself, it sounds like Nintendo's booth will be relatively low-key. It'll only be hosting some Splatoon contests, outlined below:
- Splatoon Multiplayer Battles (July 21-24): Fans of the kid or squid variety can show off their Splatoon skills in 4v4 multiplayer matches throughout the day.
- Splatoon Splatfest (July 22-23): On Friday and Saturday, come enjoy the last Splatfest competition by battling for Callie or Marie in Splatoon.
- Splatoon amiibo Challenges (July 21-24): Get an up-close view of the latest amiibo lineup for Splatoon and experience the challenges and bonus content that they unlock.
Overall it seems like the open-to-the-public Play Nintendo Lounge will be the place to be, so a show pass isn't needed for local Nintendo fans. Are any of you planning to go along?

looks way better than hyper japan, but apperently nintendo of america sucks compared to europe
Fleshy Souls? That sounds... disturbing?
Style Savvy Fashion Forward ? Hm......
Kinda interesting. I have never played girlie games like this before but kinda interested for some reasons.
Federation Force, eh? The main missing game from E3 is actually being at an event.
Wow, that's really cool of Nintendo!
(Can I be a kid again?) Lol..
That's what's up
Federation Force hands on. Good to see. We need to learn more about it.
@YouSeemFRAZZLED yeah like yokai watch and rythm heaven megamix
I'm impressed to see all of those Wii U Games considering the national Play Ntinedo Tour seems to be 3DS only.

I like the "12 and under" SSB tournament. Nitneod could have made that one on the 2/3DS as well but opted for the Wii U, which is nice. They should give everybody who enters a free Wii U, got to get them out there somehow. 800,000 in an entire 12 months, why do they bother? More importantly, why should anybody else bother?
@rjejr It's funny but I know at least one person who seems determined to get a Wii U fully realizing that a new console is coming in March.
Saw Zelda and wants to play the Zelda remakes of all things.
It's a weird place for Nintendo to be in with so little to offer on its main console. Pokemon GO is definitely picking up the slack, though, eh?
@Anti-Matter The Style Savvy series is ridiculously fun. And if you're worried about it just being a girly game, a) it's not, and b) I think you'll find that women appreciate a man who can put together an outfit more than a man who is clueless about such things.
All I want to know is when they're going to announce when they're going to announce their reveal of the NX.
@aaronsullivan Just finished writing that long reply, maybe I'll keep this 1 short. Maybe.
I wouldn't blame people for wanting a Wii U, great exclusive games, but it should be $199 now MSRP and most of those games should be $20 Selects. TP HD should have launched at $40, it's barely a remake, more like a port, $50 w/ the rather cool amiibo. Also BC for people who skipped the Wii. But it isn't even close to being worth $299 in 2016 w/ Xbox 1 at $279 - 500GB HDD, blu ray player, a few more years of support. That's just stupid.
Looks like a fun event! Unfortunately, I'm not willing to drive almost 2000 miles, and plane tickets are out of the question.
@PanurgeJr
Thank you. I'll get that title when already 19 August 2016.
I wonder if they will show the NX
I have to say, I'm disappointed, usually they have mostly unreleased games at their Comic-Con event, this time its mostly stuff that's already out. Why are we not getting Breath of the Wild, or Paper Mario, or Sun & Moon or other games coming out this year? I was really looking forward to getting a chance to play the new Zelda game.
At least there's the Sonic and Metroid games which is better then nothing.
Nintendo seems to have nothing new that is interesting anymore. Old news, old games. Mehhhhhhhh...
@YouSeemFRAZZLED You are aware there is a game on this list that is available since November 2015 in Europe, but still unreleased in the US right?
I'm getting Style Savvy as soon as it's available. Aw, yeah.
@XCWarrior
No, the less we know the better so it can slink away and we can forget about it and get a "true" metroid game.
@GameOtaku Stop it. There is no such thing as a "true" whatever game. Other M didn't sell wel, they went in a new direction. It actually has multiplayer which people clamor more Nintendo games should have.
There is a 99.99% chance you haven't tried it yet. But it looks different, so you're afraid of it. Try it, you might like it. It's like "Green Eggs and Ham." You are just being a 4-year-old child if you don't.
@XCWarrior
Zero mission, metroid 2, super metroid, fusion. These solidified what metroid is! Prime expanded upon it and was good! Other m was bad because of how samus was portrayed. Strong, confident and silent! Not a whimpering scared girl!
still salty about the ykw logos but whatevs
I wonder if Nintendo's gonna present Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta Amiibo just like last year they presented Mewtwo Amiibo.
