The fearsome Darkrai may not be confirmed for the Wii U version of Pokkén Tournament just yet, but it's coming to the arcade version - as these lovely new screenshots attest.
The update goes live in arcades today in Japan. Darkrai - along with Scizor and Empoleon - is referenced in the Wii U game code, so it's surely just a matter of time before the trio are confirmed for domestic use.

Legacy of the (Dark) Void.
You know what his head looks like?
Nice.
Though I wonder, will it be DLC or a free update on the console?
@Gridatttack It's only confirmed for the Japanese arcade version so far.
@Gridatttack I'm sure when it inevitably comes to Wii U it will be paid DLC.
@KrakenSoup Which would be terrible but typical. The list of fighters was very paltry to start with. There's only 15 characters(Shadow Mewtwo doesn't count).
@Megas I have heard that you can catch all the Pokemon with XY and oras, excluding event pokemon. However each version has it's own exclusives. I have the old DS games so it is a lot easier to catch them there and transfer them over. If you need a certain Pokemon from the old games let me know and I'll try to help ^^
...Well at least another one of my favorites made it in...still haven't gotten this game yet.
Darkrai is cool, but Scizor is where it's at
Darkrai looks like an oddball type character and I'm sure the Wii U will get the DLC soon.
Why Empolean? Why Bandai!? If I knew the water starter would be that thing, I'd much prefer Greninja
@SLIGEACH_EIRE have you played the game at all? Mewtwo and shadow mewtwo has completely different movesets. This isnt Ryu and Ken or Fox and Falco in smash, these are literally 2 different characters for 1 pokemon
This is an awesome fighting title and for anyone on the fence I'd recommend it , I would love to see a steady flow of new Pokémon start getting added as well as some new stages I'd even be happy to pay for it as DLC .
Empoleon! One of my favourites. Love 'em.
@Snow-Dust My guess for Empoleon being the water starter pick is that they wanted to throw people off since Greninja (because he's literally everywhere Pokemon wise at the moment), Swampert (because we have Sceptile and Blaziken already), and Blastoise (since we have the Red and Yellow mascots, and Gen 1 is typically well known) would all be pretty predictable for the reasons I mentioned.
That leaves Feraligatr, Empoleon, and Samurott for a more "surprising" water starter choice. Problem with Feraligatr and Samurott is they both become slightly redundant with Suicune in since he's a popular gen 2 water type (like Feraligatr) and a quadreped (like Samurott). Process of elimination leaves us with Empoleon.
I'm not gonna pretend this was the developer's logic, this was just the reasoning I figured when Scizor and the others were leaked.
@ASonic3582 Hey, logic wise, your process of elimination does make sense but that's about it. The other 5 starters can bring so much more to the table
Blastoise - Who doesnt want to re-enact Charizard vs Blastoise from Gen 1 Red vs Green/Blue (depending on being dub or sub anime)
Feraligatr - Gen 2 dont get much love at all and that's it
Swampert - Sceptile and Blaziken is in already, you might as well put Swampert in who is the most badass. Who doesnt love a mudkip? (Screw Brock for having the mudkip)
Samurott - A samurai otter thing? point is, he can have moves that are inspired by kendo or iaido
Greninja - A ninja gameplay, why not but I can see he would be similar to Gengar in a way
and then we got Empolean who is just a giant penguin and honestly, I cant see him having any type of gameplay except for being the tank who can cop a lot of hits which Feraligatr's frame suits just as well.
Btw, Gen 4 has some pretty big representations already, Lucario and now Darkrai
If Street Fighter has Akuma or Gouki, Pokken has Darkrai.
Looks similar.
Would love this as free DLC on Wii U.
Hope comes soon with more pokemons as DLC for the WiiU version. Would make me buy the game already if they confirm more fighters than the 16 included in the base game.
@ghasfarost Not sure when, but Darkrai (as well as Scizor and Empoleon) will eventually come to Wii U since they were initially found by datamining the Wii U version. My guess is either a week or 2 after the arcade, or they'll launch one at a time at the arcade, then all 3 at once on Wii U when the last one launches.
No problem. Good luck catching them all!
