Wii U owners wondering what to play on their home console this Summer should certainly consider Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, a title with a somewhat protracted development history that's nonetheless made its way onto the system. Primarily developed by Atlus, with a focus on music and with some Fire Emblem cameos, it has a lot of fascinating ingredients.
With its release due on 24th June in North America and Europe, Nintendo is keen to get the message across that this is worth a punt. We've seen a few localised videos of late showing the game in action, but a fresh story trailer does more than most for giving us a flavour of the experience on offer. After all, RPGs often thrive or fail on whether the story itself is gripping and entertaining.
It certainly looks promising to this writer - check it out and let us know what you think.

I think it's coming out 2 weeks after E3, yet Ntineod is focusing all of it's attention at E3 on Zelda U, which doens't come out for maybe another 9 months after E3. I think that shows how well Ntineod expects this to sell. Which is not well, not well at all.
Edit - oh, very kitchsy of you @ThomasBW84 using the pic of the girl in her bikini bottom while the video has her wearing pants. That should go over well.
And I know a lot of JRPG players prefer the original spoken Japanese - I certainly do - but I think when you are making a video for marketing a game in the west you should probably go with english dubs. But then some of the words on the screen were in Japanese also, it's like they are trying to sell this to otaku as a badge of honor. Which is nice I suppose, but won't do much for it's sales numbers.
You used the original costume in the photo but their using the censored version in the video
I can't wait!! Still advertising the Special Edition version is mean though
I could maybe see them dubbing the game but the songs would have had to stay anyway.
If Wii U only has 2 more main games for me.....this and Zelda are a good farewell
@SetupDisk They said it won't be dubbed and it being released in 3 weeks it would have gone to be printed and shipped to stores.
I really hope it will be a good game. Can't tell from this trailer
Maybe if the game does well enough the sequel might get dubbing as the Persona series has had great VA work for the characters.
@DiscoGentleman "And the comments are already on censorship."
Like there was any choice w/ the big huge pic on top showing the same woman wearing a bikini and then the same woman is in the vid in pants. We were set up I tell ya, framed, hoodwinked even. Pavlov rang the bell and we started salivating, not our fault this time.
@Grumblevolcano Oh come on Grumble, its a twitter account, posted by unpaid interns who were probably still hungover from the bank holiday and hadn't yet checked the dates on their smartphones to realize today was June 1st. Typos happen. I should know.
Funny, I was thinking about you as I posted my first comment, yesterday was May 31st and we didn't get our big "May game", like Spaltoon and MK8. Even if this came our yesterday, this woudln't be it. Oh they could try, but just no. And Mighty #9 didn't make it out in May either.
It's an interesting read from 3-5 months back.
https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/wii-u/game_for_may_29th30th
@rjejr I just picked a screenshot of the singing girl, I didn't actually clock the difference personally!
@rjejr The bikini was from the reveal trailer, in the final Japanese version of the game, they gave her pants. So no censorship.
@Steven_the_2nd @Tsurii I'm not stiring up anything. Did I post that pic? Did I release the Japanese reveal trailer? Did I change it in the game? Everybody can see the pic, everybody can see the trailer. I do post a lot of images in my comments but I didn't post that one, so I didn't stir up anything, I only pointed out what would be stirring up stuff, no need to shoot the messenger.
Go back and read my comment. Do I go all crazy censorship? I don't even mention the word censorship, I don't even talk about the subject, all I do is forewarn what is to come, you don't blame a compass for pointing north, you blame the magnetic pull.
Heck, go back and read my previous comments on the subject, I don't even care, I don't even call it "censorship", I view it more as "cultural relativism". But I could easily see what was coming, seemed very obvious to me.
It's a sharp (♯), not a hash (#), btw. Just saying.
@ThomasBW84 Do you mind changing the screenshot? This may sound like an odd or possibly even a frivolous request, but with it also no longer being representative of even the Japanese release it may give the wrong impression as to what the article is about.
Now THIS is a trailer! I got so hyped watching it!
Much better than that so desperately trying to be cool trailer NoA realised few weeks ago, at least in my opinion.
People wouldn't complain about censorship in these games if they weren't interested in them. Of course when something that interests people gets tampered with, people are going to voice their concern about it. I was hyped when the project was initially announced, lost a lots of it when it turned out to be what it currently is, and lost interest and willingness to support it completely when the "localization" changes were made public.
I'm, in turn, sick of all the people who complain about censorship posts in articles about games that are heavily related to it. Just because you happen to be OK with the changes made with the game, doesn't mean everyone else should be. The "if you were a fan you wouldn't complain" card is one of the most idiotic things one could ever use in situations like these.
@rjejr Wow triggered much? You are insinuating censorship so that will definitely trigger the trolls on this and the game doesn't need that. You would be the one stirring up things with your comment.
I am not declaring you a censorship nazi or anything of the sort. You did put your point out there correctly and not RAGING at all. I just wanted to make it clear that the game isn't being censored for UK / NA, they changed it in the original game.
@Wexter Yeah, I've changed it, will likely take a short while to refresh on the front page, plus clear in people's caches etc.
It wasn't deliberate in any case, just one of those things.
@ThomasBW84 It's okay man! Stuff happens I even make small mixups like that myself. People are people after all.
Just keep being awesome!
Looking forward too playing this game.
@ThomasBW84 Good call. You would think after all the articles w/ comments turned off you would be a little more aware. The new pic works very well. Won't stop some people from going off anyway, Pandora's censorship box seems opened now, but at least you won't be seen as the one beating the war drum, even if unintentionally.
@Steven_the_2nd "I am not declaring you a censorship nazi or anything of the sort."
Well it seemed like you were, and that's pretty much a trigger for anyone, not just me, hence the reaction.
It reminds me of newer Persona games.
Makes me wish I had a Wii U to play it.
Super excited for this. Hopefully I'll be done with Bravely Second by the time it rolls around.
Can't wait for the release! I finally got around to pre-ordering the special edition despite the higher price and I've been replaying the Japanese version as well recently.
So many questions. Apologies for being a noob. Is this Shin Megami Tensei vs Fire Emblem? I remember that announced years ago but didn't hear anything else about it, especially a name change. What is Tokyo Mirage Sessions and why has the name changed? Or is this a different game?
I've played and loved Persona 4 Golden but don't know anything about Atlus or SMT outside of that game. Is this going to play like Persona but with Fire Emblem battles? That would be so incredible. The walking part of this video is definitely reminiscent of the Persona 4 dungeon gameplay but the battles seem 100% Fire Emblem. Tbh this is a must buy for me no matter the answer to these questions, I'm very disappointed it's only subtitled though, considering how incredible the P4G voice acting is.
@rjejr Am I out of the loop on something bc i have no idea why you spell Nintendo like that
@PorllM Yep this is that crossover. More Kingdom Hearts than Marvel vs. Capcom in concept though when it comes to crossovers. The game will play rather similarly to Persona (which plays a lot like SMT) so you should feel right at home. It will be using the Fire Emblem weapon triangle for combat and include Fire Emblem characters as classes and "personas" if you will.
As for the story outside of having theming similar to an SMT/Persona game with Fire Emblem character cameos it will tell its own unique story. The name change is more to highlight how this is more its own thing than just an SMT or Fire Emblem game. The title even has nods to this as Tokyo Mirage Sessions acronym TMS is SMT backwards and the ♯FE... well you get the idea. The game is more of a merging of the two franchises rather than a traditional crossover kind of like how Kingdom Hearts is a merger of Final Fantasy and Disney animation.
@TheDavyStar Like what?
Like this - Ntindindo
Or this - Ntinedo
Or this - Nitndneo
However I do it, my fingers always type it wrong, and my auto-correct refuses to fix it.
already have my copy preordered. I cannot wait to play this game. I have a lot of games in June that I want (ZTD & Lego Star Wars) but this is my only Wii U game.
I was already excited for this game and now i can't wait until the 26/06 so i can start playing it.
@DiscoGentleman North Korea might be on it already.
@rjejr Phone keyboards are annoying like that. Even so better typo than autocorrect - my sutocorrect constantly changes Nintendo to Innuendo
I have this game preordered and I'm pretty excited for it, censorship or no ( ) - I mean I think we can all rest assured it will be a pretty solid game. But it's going to fly so far under the radar that it will be brushing treetops and I think in the future it will be a very rare game indeed. So pick it up now kids!
Nice little disclaimer at the start in small writing.
"Pease note: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is only available with Japanese voiceover and English on-screen text."
Where's the disclaimer saying that it's censored, has content removed and is charging for DLC on day 1?
And look another one.
"Please check with your local retailer for information and current availability."
You can't bloody well buy it anywhere.
Unless you fancy being skinned alive on Amazon UK where they're selling the last copy for £175.

Looks promising but censorship is never a good thing.
I'm sad that DJ Masterseal didn't tell us about his homeboy Itsuki in this one.
Will you people calm down? And enough with the swearing, censoring it with the *'s or whatever don't work, either, so quit it. :/
Most people were turned off when it was shown off as Tokyo Mirage Sessions, but I personally am more interested in it. I like the idea of a new series with elements from others, and the story does seem interesting. The foreign pop music theme is a bit odd to me, but I'm up for something something new. Plus, it's made by Atlus... enough said.
The game looks promising but I need reviews and some gameplay before I take a dive. Let alone I have 6 RPG's I still need to play.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
It's always frustrating when Limited Editions sell out (or end up being stocked by non-official sellers for ridiculous prices), but... they are supposed to be "Limited", after all.
Admittedly, it's PARTICULARLY annoying when there's actually something unique about the enclosed game itself (as with FE:Fates, which wasn't so much a special 'pack' as a unique game cart). However, most Limited Editions just pack the standard game with some extra gubbins, and wrap it all in special packaging; the 'selling point' usually being a collectable piece of plastic and maybe a nice case or an artbook.
This game is in that category. The 'Fortissimo Edition' just the contains the standard box, a code for some DLC (which is functions no differently to downloading directly it), and some extra bits and bobs. Specifically; an art book, a CD soundtrack, a lyrics card and... some stickers.
It's a shame that you missed out on it. It means no singing along in Japanese with Tsubasa and chums as the soundtrack blasts out of your CD player; it means no lyrics (or at least, not on an card - I'm sure they're online); it means no dreamily staring at Touma Akagi's concept art; and it means no sticking Itsuki stickers to your bedroom ceiling.
But I'd like to kindly ask that you stop reminding the entire NL community how you missed out on the Limited Edition version of this game. It's sad for you, especially if you wanted to do all (or any) of the above, but that's the reality; the Limited Edition was too limited and now you don't get an art book or a CD Soundtrack (or a lyrics card or some stickers).
It's sad stuff, but please try coming to terms with it, for all our sakes.
@Yorumi Yeah, it seems there've been a lot of badly judged stockings of a number of special edition games on the Wii U recently; I felt lucky to be able to get the first print run of Star Fox. And similarly, the amiibo supply problems are infamous.
But in this case, I think it's worth asking what is really being lost. Admittedly, it's a fairly decent pack of stuff if you're an avid fan of the game's music and art, but I find it hard to believe that the original poster (who's made such a song as dance about how awful it is that the game isn't fully dubbed into English) has really been dying to get his hands on the a CD compilation of the game's signature Japanese pop songs.
It seems more like being angry and dissatisfied for it's own sake rather than coming from any genuine sense of disappointment. And that's just... ugly to watch, and impossible to solve with. Because it's not a real problem; it's just an excuse to shout and stomp your feet and feel self-righteously wronged.
@Maxz As for the artbook, I did notice on Amazon that the Japanese import was available similar to "The Knights of Iris" for FE Awakening. Not sure if it is still up there, but I'm sure you can still import it from Play Asia (I think the English title is "Genei Ibunroku #FE Visual Setting Material Collection") that and it contains more artwork than even the Fortissimo one. Will suck that the dev comments are not in English, but that is no issue for me .
Have not been able to locate it recently though so not sure if it is as easy to find anymore.
@Yorumi I think I might be able to help you out there.
http://www.play-asia.com/genei-ibun-roku-fe-vocal-collection/13/709nhr
Not sure how the conversation rates will playout for you, but that is the full soundtrack I believe. Yeah I know that price is such a stab, but if you do some digging I think you will be able to find it for cheaper. Just search using the name in English or with the kana.
I doubt that will sell well buy I'll buy and love it!
@Yorumi Not 100% sure on that I would recommend some digging before buying. However I can say according to CDJapan it is the full tracks. I cannot garentee it, but I assume it would. Be safe and do some digging before buying.

I dunno, the game seems fun, but it looks a little to reliant on a love for Japanese culture, which I knew next to nothing about. Probably a pass.
This new UK trailer is great, it's on par with the first reveal and E3 trailers of last year in terms of hype much better than the latest couple of US trailers. I'm really enjoying this game and can't stop playing it! I have already completed my first playthrough of the JP Version! I don't want to initiate a flame/comments war, but I'm still frustrated about the game's unfair censorship. The Japanese reviews are right on this one, this is a great game and one of the best JRPGs I've played.
@rjejr This game will be published by Altus not Ntineod. It'll still be shown at E3 by Altus.
Thank God for free speech and free will.
@retro_player_22
"Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE (Japanese: 幻影異聞録シャープエフイー Hepburn: Gen'ei Ibun Roku Shāpu Efu Ī?, lit. "Illusory Revelations ♯FE") is a crossover role-playing video game developed by Atlus and published by Nintendo for the Wii U home console."

K/J pop simulator
@Yorumi
Funnily enough, the XCX Collectors Edition is still up at BestBuy even to this day.
So is the collectors edition for this game here.
And that's the problem I think. Unlike on other consoles this fan base has a set number of people who buy CE's and extra stuff (like amiibo) right away and no one who really waits.
So stuff will be selling like crazy and then all of a sudden in a matter of 24 hours nobody's ordering it at all. It's a very steep and sharp drop off. I remember when amiibo would sellout in minutes, so they decided to make more and reprint and now they're all on the clearance rack for $5. They printed more collector editions for some recently games and now there's all this unsold stock.
On topic though, I'm really excited to play this game. Finally. It's been a long three year wait.
@PorllM More like it's Shin Megami Tensei x Persona x Fire Emblem x Japanese "Idol" Culture. It's a really good and fairly unique game and is well made despite not having a huge budget.
@DiscoGentleman "Were you super grumpy in your late 20's?"
I had 2 nice girlfriends at once the only time in my late 20's, that wouldn't mean much to you, but it worked for me. I wasn't grumpy from about '91 - '94 and '98-'05, so I've had about 11 good years out of 50. I don't see non-grumpy ever happening again. Well maybe when my kids go away to college, if they get full scholarships, that's my only hope to smile. Well that, and the FFV remake, which I was really pulling for on NX, when I thought NX would release in late 2016 alongside FFXV. Now where's my Cloud amiibo? [Thought I'd add in a little JRPG talk to be almost remotely on topic. ]
@retro_player_22 Well that's good to hear, regardless of what Sligeach wrote. I'm actually 1 of those people who thinks there will be more at E3 than Zelda U, Ntineod is too dependent on the Nindies to blow them off entirely. I'm not sure I've ever played an Atlus game, but I know they do a lot of good work bringing stuff over.
DEFINITELY - there will be MORE stuff at E3 - Nintendo have just been trolling us lol .
Censored.
My collector's edition got cancelled so like fire emblem fates I will probably let this pass me by
WAY better than whatever the heck that NA trailer was.
It'll be a good game. More than likely, it'll be an excellent one. Atlus might not hit the high notes of Squaresoft in the 90s, but it has produced an insane number of consistently excellent JRPGs, and is far and away the best current Japanese developer.
Well, I suppose I will give this a try.
Was not really interested at all at first but this trailer seemed better than the NA one.
@PorllM This is the result of the SMTxFE crossover, but honestly, I think anyone who would refer to this final product like that is pulling your leg. TMS #FE is actually more of a Persona spinoff title. The last time a title that had FE style gameplay for SMT was Majin Tensei 1 & 2 for the Super Famicom. All of the references in this game could easily be unrecognizable with some name changes.
So go into it with the notion of getting an exclusive (for now) Persona style title. If that's your thing, you'll probably like it. If not, then don't be fooled by the #FE moniker.
The game looks great, and I cannot wait to play it.
My one concern though is that it is too long. RPG's are not really known for delivering tight and non-padded narratives. Fingers crossed for it being short(ish) and sweet instead of bloated, outstaying-its-welcome stuff...
The NA trailer was cringeworthy as hell. They did a much better job with this one. This trailer makes me want to play the game, whereas the NA trailer makes me question humanity.
@Wexter @Plywoodstick @roboshort Thanks a lot. So it's basically a Persona game with a few Fire Emblem characters. Shame it didn't fit some FE style battles in there somewhere but it's still awesome. Fire Emblem Awakening and Persona 4 Golden are two of the best games I've played in recent years so this is a must buy for me. Still kinda disappointed about the subtitles though.
@SilentHunter382
I know, I meant that while it would have been possible to dubb the main game it would have been kind of pointless as the characters would switch to another voice actor because dubbing all those songs a main part of the storyline would been impossible.
Personally, I think the game looks good. Only Fire Emblem I've played is Awakening and I have yet to play a Persona game. I don't know much about either franchise, so I guess that's why there's no need for me to really complain about it.
@Tuulenpoika It'll help if people didn't constantly mention it and derail an whole entire topic and/or constantly mention it everytime the game is brought up considering there is more to the game than one dungeon. There is nothing wrong with disliking censorship, but to act like it's the only thing that matter is dumb especially since there are many, MANY popular games that has been censored in the west even back in the NES day.
I'm saying you actually do that, but it's fair to be annoyed by it.
