Since 2002, UK group Barbican International has been curating a worldwide touring videogame museum called "Game On." It focuses on key developments in gaming history and encompasses 45 years of gaming into one place.
The most recent stop for Game On has been Tokyo, Japan, where it has been held since the beginning of March and will end on May 30th. Inside there are over 150 games to play; from Pong to Minecraft, every era and genre is covered. There are also lots of items for display only, like an original Computer Space arcade game, vintage Nintendo Game & Watches, game magazines and artwork. Since Game On has been in Tokyo, there were also speaking sessions featuring Shinya Arino from Game Center CX, as well as others involved in past and present Japanese game development.
There have been a lot of news of videogame museums opening up recently, including the National Videogame Museum in Frisco, Texas. All the while Game On has been touring countries such as Finland, Israel, and Argentina, as well as The UK. The next stop for Game On is in Oslo, Norway where it runs until the end of January, 2017.

Had a lovely time when they dropped by Lisbon a few years ago.
What?!!! O.O. Finally something big is coming to Norway for once ^^.
Really hope I will be able to go to Oslo and attend the event as this is really big for me/us .
(Also I hope other countries will get this soon as well).
Edit for Norwegian people: Game On er på det Tekniske Museumet og har faktisk vært der siden 10. Mars fra det jeg/æ forstår. Forhåpentligvis er Game On bra her i Norge også :+).
Went to this back when it started in 2002. Cool that it is still going. If I remember rightly got to play a demo of Mario Sunshine prerelease there!
I went to this museum in 2015, when it came to Sweden. It was awesome! I remember playing Mario Bros. on the Famicom, Super Mario All-Stars, and the arcade version of Donkey Kong on a real cabinet from the eighties!
This came up in conversation a few days ago, as I was trying to remember the name of the video game exhibition that my Dad took me and my siblings to as children. It turns out it was this very show, all the back at its beginnings - before it took off from the Barbican in London to tour the world.
I remember it had Bomberman, and Super Mario Sunshine, which may or may not have officially been released at that point. It's nice to hear it's still going. It was a fantastic, and very memorable experience all those years ago.
EDIT: According to @BrizzoUK, Sunshine HADN'T released at that point. So I guess that gives me some well-expired bragging rights.
I saw it Last Year in Montreal, it was alright, but felt somewhat disorganized and disjointed. Also it clearly changes based on who the co-sponsors are, in Montreal it was Ubisoft, and Tokyo's was clearly Sony which is why they were so heavily marketing PSVR. It's a good effort but a misguided attempt to teach gaming history.
@Maxz I was there too! Maybe I saw you in the queue for Sunshine?! I gave up though, quite a lot of people were ahead of me
Suprised this is still going, 14 years later!
(I hope you understand my Norwegian).
I live in Oslo and I plan to visit the exhibition in a couple of weeks. Apparently Game On 2.0 is a extended version of the concept which they added in 2010 and, as it is doing now, can run parallel to the original Game On. Source: http://www.barbican.org.uk/bie/game-on Well, finally I get to try the Virtual boy and find out what all the fuzz was about
I visited the museum over ten years ago when it was in Helsinki in Finland.
That was a really great museum back then. Must be even more massive now.
