Kickstarter is still a notable source of funding for developers of various sizes, helping projects get over the finishing line. Now BRAMBLETYNE, a company with a track record in comic books and smart device apps, is seeking a small amount of funding to bring its next project to New 3DS.
This potential game is Space Probe, which could come to iOS and Android as well as Nintendo's latest portable. With lead game designer Adam-James Foulkes at the helm, this project also has Duncan Guttridge involved - he's working on box and general art, with a track record that includes artwork for the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
The game itself is described as a "retro-inspired casual game about collecting monsters & exploring the universe". Planned as a game for short, relaxing bursts of gameplay, you control your customised ship on an outward journey avoiding monsters, before collecting them on the way back; after that you research the monsters and upgrades for your probe.
It looks like a pleasant title and it certainly has a charming aesthetic. It's only seeking £1000 for its core goal, with the New Nintendo 3DS version requiring £5000.

would have been more intrested if the gameplay didnt look like Flappy Bird. Il try and keep an eye on it thogh.
It looks nice, and if it gets near the stretch goal I'll probably jump on board the kickstarter.
I'm getting a little tired of these video game Kickstarter campaigns. There have been way too many instances of them not holding up to the promises they make.
Support this so we can have a new 3ds only game.
Anything that mentions "monster collection" will at least get my attention.
I know nothing about bringing games to the 3DS, but I'm wondering whether the £5000 stretch goal is large enough to port to the New 3DS. Maybe I'm just skeptical because I've seen other Kickstarters shy away from Nintendo consoles after promising the game will come to them.
I want it. I love the art style and the premise of the game. I wonder how long it would take to port it to the New Nintendo 3DS though.
It seems interesting. The New 3DS really need exclusive games.
Looks neat, but i'm not holding my breath for the 3DS stretch goal. Kickstarter has not been too kind to me when it comes to Ninty stuff. At least the N64 book looks like it'll be a sure thing.
I'm not completely sold on the game, but if it does end up coming to 3DS I'll check it out then.
boring .. no
And this would be the THIRD New 3DS exclusive (besides SNES VC) since the console released. NINTENDO!!!...
It just looks like a glorified Flappy Bird. No. Just no.
What the flying hell? So, this developer is saying that pixel art game can't be coded on the original 3DS?
@Malakai Its probably developed with Unity. Which technically can run on 3DS but Unity themselves strongly recommends only using it with New 3DS.
It's almost certainly a development engine issue not a power issue. Switching to a different engine would increase dev time and costs.
@LegendOfPokemon
Xenoblade
Binding of Issac
Lifespeed
Futuridium EP deluxe
Wind up knight 2.
It would be at least the sixth actually.
I just backed this. It EASILY deserves to get the tiny $1k amount it's looking for.
PS. The sprite art looks really nice.
@owendershot That's pretty much what I got, but with a little bit of other stuff to do with research that allows you go to other areas, which sounds good to me for the amount they're asking to get it funded.
@efaulk84 There's zero reason to think this won't deliver. They're not promising anything other than a simple iOS-type game, and then porting that to 3DS later on if they get enough backers. It's not like they're promising some 60hr long adventure epic with thousands of characters and lines of dialogue or something like that. It looks like the kind of game that they'll have little issues actually realising and getting out there, and lovely one at that (at least the pixel art is lovely).
If you just mean "Will they REALLY bother brining it to 3DS if they get funded?" Well, that's the chance people have to take when backing a project like this on Kickstarter. But it wouldn't be a great start for a company to say they're going to do this on one of their first games and then not do so, that's for sure. I don't think they'd be that silly.
No thanks, it just doesn't appear interesting or fun to me. Keep letting us know of Kickstarter and indiegogo games to look at though. I've pledged for several happily over the last couple years.
Mmmh... "space exploration" seems too much of a stretch to me, tbh. But yeah, if done well it could be fun.
Looks promising... I won't be backing it just yet but I'll keep my eye on it for sure. I'm a sucker for awesome pixel art.
so another kickstarter game.
there are so many comments on kickstarter pages saying things like "wheres my game/add ons/i never received this or that"
the only one thats gonna hold up is bloodstained. bottom line.
