With the launch of Hyrule Warriors Legends plenty will be switching the portable entries new characters across to Wii U in order to enjoy them in their full HD glory. It's one of the perks on offer for those that double dip on the Koei Tecmo button masher.
We've naturally redeemed Linkle, Toon Link, Tetra, King Daphnes and Skull Kid into our copy of Hyrule Warriors on Wii U in order to destroy plenty of foes in all new ways. Linkle may be the star name, but there are certainly some interesting movesets in the rest of the new cast.
Check them out in action below.

I'll pick them up as dlc for the Wii U, if they get made available that way. Fingers crossed!
I'm curious, even though I'll be buying the 3DS version, when do the new characters come to the Wii U eShop?
I wish it were tomorrow already..
(Waiting for the U.S. release)
is Tetra packing a pistol?
I WANT THIS GAME NOW, NOT TOMORROW
@HeCaster101 summer, reportedly
Games been great fun so far! Works really well and nobody should use the 3d as it just brings out the falt textures and lowers framerate! I got the original Wii U season pass when I realised the 3ds didn't give you it! I also got the season pass for 3ds/Wii U so I'm pumped for new content! The game is amazing on new 3ds and perfectly well on 3ds too I'm glad it's there as a perfectly playable fun experience for people who didn't upgrade to the new console!
Those characters are looking good. I'll definitely grab one of the Hyrule Warriors games eventually, but I'm not feeling a rush to play it.
@CharlieSmile the funny thing is that it's literally a water gun.
Couple things: one, doesn't it look weird that Toon Link and Tetra look like they glide over the ground because their footsteps don't match how fast they actually run? Two, does anyone else feel Linkle's attacks are loosely inspired by Bayonetta?
Most of the new characters look underhwleming... and while i mostly only want the Trident for Ganondorf, i actually enjoyed the demo alot, so i might just grab the whole game for 3DS.
@Arngrim apparently many people really like Linkle, some reviews even mention she's one of the better characters in the game.
I personally want to try playing as King Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule
@Meowpheel I love it even more!
Been playing the 3DS version since 12am on the dot. It took a second to adjust to the lower framerate, but I love it nonetheless. I wonder when we'll get to use the Windwaker characters. I assume after the main story?
@Detective_TeeJay you can unlock toon link for the free and adventure modes right after beating the first level of legend mode.
He's two battles away from the starting point in adventure.
Tetra and Mr Daphnes I think you'll need to wait a bit longer.
@Meowpheel Oh thank you! I'll head there right now then.
Totally getting Hyrule Warriors for the Wii U when Linkle & co. becomes available.
What about Medli?
Call me thick (many have lol). I was under the impressions, that Wii U owners of the original game, would get the extra characters for FREE. I just loaded up Hyrule Warriors on my Wii U. There was a pretty hefty update, and then a quick DLC install.
However, upon reading the CHANGE LOG, I am now told, I HAVE to purchase the 3DS version to use these extra characters on my Wii U.
I find this rather disgusting on the Developers part. Forcing me to pay 40 U.K. pounds, and then what-ever for the Season Pass is just not on.
Even thougn it has been a while since I have played the game, my interest was pricked by the thougnt of some FREE extra charachters. So, for those that do not want the 3DS version, or are unable to afford it, they are being penalized.
Personally, I WILL NOT be handing over even more cash to the Developers. I feel sorry for the people that play the original game still, but unless they part with, let's face it, quite a substantial amount of money, will be getting nothing new.
Not impressed by this 'blackmai,' type technique at all.
@akaDv8R wut, they never ever said anywhere they would be free, since day one they said you had to get the 3ds game.
And recently they announced them as a separate dlc pack, which costs money.
@Meowpheel
Love the water pistol. That's the first time I noticed that.
Linkle's move set is the coolest, in my opinion, but Daphne's wins for the most insane and awesome.
Not sure if I'm biting on this though. Shall have to pick up the game someday and see how I feel about playing more because there are no actual new campaign adventures or adventure maps to go along with these characters on Wii U. It's a shame.
@akaDv8R
Why did you think you deserved it for free?
"So, for those that do not want the 3DS version, or are unable to afford it, they are being penalized."
Just like everyone who ever didn't want anything or weren't able to afford anything? I'm being "penalized" for not getting a new fridge for free? I don't see the logic here.
If you choose not to hand cash over to the developers it's because the work they did and the fun you could get from it is not worth the asking price to you. That's fine, but it's not punishment, it's just business.
@owendershot Ah right, thanks, thought that was only some of the dlc while some of it stayed exclusive to the 3ds.
