Fighting game crossover Pokkén Tournament is officially becoming part of the Pokémon Championship Series, it has been confirmed today.
The Wii U brawler will be added to the roster for the 2016 event, with the crowning of the Pokkén Tournament World Champions taking place at the Pokémon World Championships in August.
Early Access Competitions being coming to select GameStop locations throughout the United States on Saturday, February 27th. Regional winners will then progress to the finals being held at the Nintendo store in New York on March 17th, with the final two winners gaining access to 2016 Pokémon US National Championships - held from July 1th to 3rd in Ohio - to battle for the chance to appear at the 2016 Pokémon World Championships.
If you're interested, then make sure you're at one of the following GameStop stores on February 27th from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. local time. Registration will begin at each regional location starting at 10 a.m. local time.

- 1841 Chamblee Tucker Road, Chamblee, GA
- 3972 Barranca Parkway, Irvine, CA

The Early Access Competitions will be split into two age brackets: players born in 2001 or later and players born in 2000 or earlier. The winner of each age bracket will be given detailed training by a professional fighting game player, and the winner from each city and age bracket will be flown to the Nintendo NY store (along with a guest) on March 17th for the Early Access finals.
The winners of these finals will each bag a Wii U system, copy of Pokkén Tournament and a travel to the 2016 Pokémon US National Championships in Ohio. Success there will assure them a place at 2016 Pokémon World Championships.

It is disappointing how few of stores there are listed. Also disappointing how far away they are from me... No way I will be able to go... Sad Face
@DefHalan
Yeah that sucks. It certainly doesn't cover much of the country. Being in Oklahoma, I am actually pretty close to the Plano, TX spot at least.
None of the locations are near me, as usual.
@rdrunner1178 I live in CA but both locations are hours away from me. Irvine is closer but that is still over 2 hours of driving (One way) just to lose at a game I haven't played before lol
Oh sweet. That's just a trip to the city for me. I think I'll have to go and compete, even though I'm positive I'll lose lol
@DefHalan
Yeah it's weird. Maybe they will be announcing more later? What about people in Kansas City, St. Louis, Denver, Nashville, Houston, Las Vegas....? People in many of the bigger cities have a LONG way to go.
I'm in Seattle so that Bellevue, WA one is a pretty easy trip.
I'm considering going just to try it out and then get completely destroyed. I imagine it'll be fun to watch the one or two people that become really good at it.
I really would love to go. Not happening, though - that's a paltry list of stores, and none of them are even in the same state as me.
Can anyone explain why everything NoA does is linked to GameStop?
@sinalefa GameStop is nationwide and has a recognizable name. GameStop probably also buys this kind of advertising because other (bigger) Stores focus on more than just games, it probably isn't worth it for them to spend a lot on that kind of stuff.
Yes! The Georgia I one is a 30 min ride from me! I heard it plays like a combination of the Ninja Storm and Tekken games so hopefully this will give me a slight edge. Is anyone here going to the Georgia store?
@sinalefa Money. Gamestop pays for exclusivity like this so they can leverage it at point of sale. They want to get bodies in their stores so then GAs can start the upsale process. I still remember my training on it...* shudder *
You know seeing the Lucha Libre Pikachu and with Street Fighter 5 out I hereby dub it "Rainbow Pika.".
Want to go to the Plano TX one, but I don't have very high chances of doing so.
